(EXTRA BOOM!) My Thai Green Curry was as awesome as it's ever been. Masses of rice. And the guys that run the place are just lovely. DO IT HEADINGLEY!

Within moments were were told we were lucky enough to be on time for the early bird menu, but that we were still welcome to order from the main menu, and our drinks orders were taken. The restaurant itself isn't huge but it's comfortable with the kind of décor you'd expect from your typical tradition Thai restaurant in the UK. Although it was early in the evening and midweek the restaurant was busy and several take away orders were carried away while we were there - always a good sign. Most of us ordered from the early bird menu (I did mostly because the shear list of options on the main menu was a little overwhelming). Probably the best choice of starter was the fried squid - no skinny calamari rings here, it's huge chunks in a rich batter. The other options were similarly impressive with pork parcels and chicken skewers featuring among the other favourites. The mains were good too. I ordered Pad Nam Man Hoi, a chicken dish with mushrooms, peppers and brocolli, all very fresh and delicious. I was slightly jealous of the Plad Shu Shee, though, a steamed fish dish that came with an entire fillet of fresh white fish. I was impressed by the options available for the vegetarians among our group and I wouldn't worry about taking friends here, almost no matter what their dietary requirements were. The early bird menu wasn't at all restrictive for me and for the price I would definitely come back to try more of it.

I really really owe Jino's a new write up, as I've been numerous times since 2010, and they're…read morestill top drawer in my book. Why? Not because they're decadent, and not even because I'd say they're my fave for Thai. Because they're cheap, they're quick, they do great service and I *always* leave feeling wonderful. That wonderful Goldilocks full, warmed by a tasty, delicious Thai green curry, and a tin of my favourite coconut water. The outdoor seating, in the brief summer, is where the magic really happens. I know - next to Otley road? Even so, we're so starved of outdoor spots that I'll take any I can get. It's BYOB, so you can enjoy a beer with your food, and the staff have always been pleasant. The décor is a little old these days, and the seating a little greasy spoon, but for a cheap, delicious, swift bite in Headers, you can't beat it. Am I right? I'm sure of it!

Make no mistake, this is definitely a cafe rather than a restaurant, so don't go in expecting…read moreanything formal or particularly traditional in terms of hospitality. There are absolutely no frills in Jino's and it almost feels like a kitchen in a student house rather than an eatery - but somehow this works. They offer food that is representative of the authentic little cafes that you actually find in Thailand, at scandalously low prices. Eating at lunchtime, I had the spicy spring rolls to nosh while I waited for my Thai Green Curry to be presented - both dishes were excellent and inexpensive in equal measure. I realised I could have actually got them (and a drink) at an even cheaper price if I'd notice the £6.50 lunchtime special. Oh well, you live and you learn. A final note on the coolness of this place - they almost encourage you to bring your own beer, and do not charge corkage. In my experience, Thai food and beer is simply a match made in heaven, so go ahead and BYOB.

My Dad, being the fab bloke that he is, drove me home from my Christmas jaunt in the homelands of Gloucestershire, and as such deserved a decent feed. I'd already decided to treat him, but the question was - where to go? Since we didn't wish to trek into town, we opted to head over to Sukhothai after a few at Arcadia. And it's safe to say this was an excellent choice. You get the royal treatment in all of their venues, with beautifully dressed and attentive staff, ready to welcome you in. We were seated and treated to the Christmas menu, which was too tempting not to try. We went for the 'Snowflake' (I think, that or the Santa) which meant sharing three starters, three mains, and a dessert each for £50. Not bad at all. The starters were delicious, with the prawns being beautifully arranged like little birds, and the chicken satay was to die for. I'm not sure what the creamy sauce is that was slathered on them, but it was beautiful! To follow came one of the most delicious coconut and steak curries I've had the pleasure of eating - the steak melted in your mouth, and the flavour of the dish was exquisite. The duck dish was just as lovely, but much spicier, and the chicken (deep fried and breadcrumbed) was equally well made. Basically, all of it was incredible. The range showed a good number of flavours, and it all came in good time - in fact, they checked to see how soon we'd like them to come. I'd no room for the dessert, but they even popped it in a box for us to take home. The staff were all wonderful, and the whole experience was a real treat. We shall be back for certain!

Many people regard this place as the finest Thai joint in Leeds, and it's not hard to see why. The interior is classy but retains that great Thai authenticity through dark carvings and subtle decorations, which lends the restaurant a pleasant, intimate atmosphere. Despite the flawlessness of the décor, environment and service, it is the food that must take the real plaudits. I had the chicken noodle soup (£4) followed by a red curry (£8) and both were insanely flavourful, and the fact that you can wash it all down with genuine Thai beers such as Chang just ices the already impressive cake.

It's quite an area for many things and I'm feeling the need for some Thai thanking you muchly. Sala is easy to get to if you know you are looking for it on Shaw Lane, just off the Otley Road and it's all about the food for me. This is a good job considering it is a restaurant. It's a good menu with plenty on offer. The hot and sour soup has the desired kick and the satay vegetables have a lovely sauce which is rich and goes down a treat. As for the mains, you can curry it up or stick to a stir fry. I had a pleasant vegetable stir fry though I have had better but I've also had worse. Good service and a fine night was had by all. Now three hoorahs and onwards and upwards.

It has an ornately decorated dining area yet, due to the nature of the building, doesn't feel over-crowded with tables or décor. Friendly staff greet you but I was rather pushily advised to get rice for a dish that didn't need it. I also felt that the food I ordered wasn't as described. I have to rate this restaurant though as the other girls I went with one of whom is a chef, the other very particular, were both impressed with their meals. Overall a wonderful dining experience from the moment you pull into the driveway.

When I got stuck into it a couple of months ago, however, it wasn't quite as good as I'd imagined. I went for some kind of beef in an Oyster-ish sauce with fried rice, and while it wasn't shockingly bad, it was all rather bland. The rice was a bit starchy and tasted like it had been sat around for a while, while the sauce was a wee bit cloying, ruining the beef. Don't get me wrong, I still finished it all, mainly 'cause I was ravenous, but it definitely could have been better. Maybe I should have tried a Thai dish. PS, for those that can stomach a full blown takeaway in the middle of the day, they offer a 'lunch-box' menu in the early afternoon. It's not something I'd go for but it could turn out to be an eastern delight I guess.

Unfortunately, my concerns turned out to be justified. While the noodles and green sauce weren't initially as overwhelming to my midday tastebuds as I had feared, afterwards my stomach felt like lead and my lethargy lasted the whole afternoon. Having spent a fair amount of time in Thailand eating this sort of food for breakfast and lunch each day, I find it hard to believe that it is simply the nature of the food that British guts just can't take it, and have to suspect that it's something in the quality or preparation of the dishes. As an evening meal, the food I had would have gone down a treat, but it lacked the lightness and subtlety of flavour to make an appropriate lunch for anyone except the truly dedicated.
