It's located in Terminal 3 on level 2 of FCO airport. It's an express version of the Amalfi Coast brand. We didn't initially realize that there was one employee working both Caffè Napoli & Sal de Riso. We observed for a few minutes before jumping in line. Our assumptions were correct. One line for both counters. Sal de Riso appeared to be closed, but in actuality it was open. No one was ordering from there so it was difficult to tell.
I'm glad we waited around. The gelato turned out to be pretty good. My husband ordered 3 different flavors, and I ordered 2. The portions were very generous. The pistachio and hazelnut tasted so natural. I think hazelnut was our favorite. It had pieces of hazelnut mixed into the gelato. My husband wasn't a fan of the chocolate because it tasted more bitter than sweet. We believe it was a darker chocolate. Other than that, it was a nice sweet treat at the airport.
There was a very limited supply of patisserie items displayed. None of them looked that interesting to me. Stick with the gelato here, or wait until you're in Amalfi to enjoy a fresh dessert at other locations.
Ambiance? There was a little at the Eataly sitting area that is shared. Although, I think that seating area is for Eataly customers only. However, they didn't kick us out so we are eternally grateful. read more
