These were fried yeast dough puffs covered in granulated sugar and with a squirt of filling in the top middle of the dough. It's not exactly a donut by American standards, but it's not far off. We tried the chocolate and the pistachio flavor filled ones, though they had a vanilla cream flavor and one or two others. The flavored fillings were almost like a wet pudding consistency and the sugar on the outside of the dough gave it it's sweetness. Bottom line: Glad I tried Krapfen! If for no other reason then it's fun to say.

But to our surprise after climbing roughly five flights of stairs to the top of the building where this place is situated, it turned out to be just short of an oasis! They had pasta dishes, as well as pastries and nice sandwiches on display behind the glass counters. Fairly friendly service which was above all efficient and streamlined. This seems to be a well frequented cafeteria, so fast service is appreciated.
