The coffee bar is always crowded in the morning but it's one of the great, fun experiences of the neighborhood, if not the city, to elbow your way up to the counter to make your order. I'm an American living in Monteverde for several months and Dolci Desideri is one of my favorite things about Rome. The coffee and daily pastries are pretty affordable, like you would find all over Rome, for a euro or less. The bigger tarts and cakes and so forth can get a bit pricey, but I think they're generally worth it.

This is also an ideal spot for pizza by the slice, baked here freshly, with a huge variety on offer. The confectioner's counter is pretty good too - lots of biscuits and cakes on offer here, although the prices are high. Excellent seasonal products can be found here however, especially at Easter and Christmas. The handsome fridges at the back are also full of milk and other food items so it works as an emergency shopping spot in case you run out of pasta or Nutella.
