November 15, 2024 10:36 AM…read more We had a little time before catching our flight and have seen Venchi around town but did not give them a try. Venchi began as a small chocolatier founded in Turin in 1878 by Silviano Venchi using premium Piedmont hazelnuts and dark chocolate. They are known for their chocolates first and then gelatos. The employees were kind and provided great service/recommendations. The lady taking the order mentioned that if I signed up for their app I get a free chocolate. I like chocolate ok, but the hubby LOVES chocolate, let alone for free. I'm glad to get a little bit of Italian goodies prior to saying bye to Rome, definitely a great spot for gelato and chocolate as an arrivederci. Yes it's airport price, but I won't get this in the US so I don't mind spending a little more. Grazie mille Venchi!

got a regular-sized strawberry chocolate milkshake and this is the size of mcdonald's water cup…read more.. and it was 9 euros?! crazy work. was it yummy? Yes. But, most of the cup was whipped cream that did not even have a drizzle of syrup on top, which was a very cheap way of making the drink :/ the staff seemed pretentious. maybe because I am not from the area and it is my first time being here, but have some grace please when I ask about flavors and size discrepancies :( I was so excited to try to this place, but the staffing threw it off for me because usually they are welcoming as a spot like this is anyone's happy place! but omg... the store was so beautiful with the bright-colored wrappers and the sweet smell of chocolate. The store just looked so expensive with the golden cursive as the backdrop for the cashier register area...and then the dripping chocolate fountain was unlike any sweets store that I have seen! chocolates were expensive, but expected. I do wish that they did samples here before committing to buy one because the price per piece was not a small throwaway.

The price was very reasonable, service was great and everyone was very friendly even though not all of the local staff spoke English. Definitely a great find and a high recommendation!

Had lunch at La Terrazza on a sunny crispy afternoon during the workweek…read more I already have reviews for most places I frequent here in Aurelia. It seems as though I had to expand on this one. Typical Italian meal, meat and pasta, lots of carbs, gnocchi-calzone-panini-macaroni, plus tons of desserts. Desserts at La Terrazza are really good. La Terrazza offers a rooftop terrace seating with gorgeous views of the country side. This is the type of place in the business park, within walking distance from Mariott, where many offices are located. People go to lunch here, it's a sort of a cafeteria style setting in terms of the presentation of food. Not your typical trattoria style. Great assortment of antipasti (cold appetizers), including sautéed veggies, artichokes, eggplant, roasted zucchini, red bell papers, carpaccio, prosciutto, soppressata, fresh mozzarella nuggets drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Beef stew, meat loaf, steamed seasoned potatoes, pasta shells, sautéed green beans, octopus with macaroni. I called them that, they may have proper Italian names attached, I just didn't care to go deep today, nor did I have time for that. Fabulous selection of pastries and desserts downstairs, including Sfogliatelle, Sanguinaccio dolce, Semifreddo, Zeppole, Canoli, Panna Cotta, Tartufo, and fruit compote. Advertised pizzas include the following: Pizza con Forno a Legna, anche Integrale - pizzas cooked in the wood burning oven, and also plate combos (complete meal): Ortolana - garden veggie pizza Margherita - traditional wood fired oven pizza Patate - Pizza di Patate with potatoes Boscaiola (Mozzarella, Funghi, Salsiccia) - mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, sausage Amatriciana (Pomodoro, Guanciale, Pecorino) - tomatoes, cured meat from pork cheeks, pecorino cheese

Airport shops are not just for junk. They're for the last minute "Oh shoot! I didn't buy a present…read morefor so and so" and "I'm bored so let me just spend more money before my plane takes off". In this case, as a courtesy, I needed to bring something back to the office and for my coworker who covered for me on my 9 day jaunt through Italia. First inclinations were chocolate and there were quite a few chocolate shops and fine purveyor groceries in the Fiumicino (Roma) airport. They had every European chocolate bar imagined as well as some local Italian chocolatiers. They also came with a hefty price tag, one that was quadruple of what I would pay for at Fairway and the likes. Then I saw Gentilini across the hall and decided to check it out. The store was bleak and organized, everything white much like a See's Candies kiosk. Boxes and bags of cookies lined the shelves. The woman at the cash register had a glass stand of cookies and offered us samples to try all the different variations. They were excellent and simple. Would go great with tea or just as satisfying grabbing a handful and stuffing them in your mouth. I'd say these cookies were equivalent to Pepperidge Farm or those Danish cookies in the blue tin. Upon further investigation, I found that these cookies were once sold by Williams Sonoma. I walked away with two boxes of Brasil al cacao, Vittorio al profumo di limone, and a bag of Favole con gocce di cioccolato. Gentilini calls these biscuits. Cookies to us Americans. They all have their own distinct shape. They are crispy and buttery and rich. The Brasil was like a chocolate snap, the Vittorio was like a cookie stick but faint in the lemon department, and the Favole was cute with an imprint of a train. I'm kicking myself now for not buying more. I understand now why my friend shipped a whole box of food to the states from Paris. I will bring an extra carryon and withdraw more Euros next time. Exquisite! Erano ottimi e semplici. Squisito!
