The Restaurant is modern and feels joyously intimate as though you are eating in someone's home. It is stylish and well laid out to make the best use of the space. Peter is the owner and chef and he manages to create masterpieces in the smallest of kitchens. He is exacting about freshness and this is reflected in the food. I have been here many times and the food is undoubtedly excellent. I especially love the crab dumplings in Sake sauce. Just a word of warning for people on a budget, there is a minimum food charge which used to be $25 but I believe it may have increased to around $35. It certainly isn't a cheap night out but it is worth the money for a special occasion or just a treat!

I am beside myself…read more Yakumi has always been one of my favourite local restaurants and one that I have recommended to many friends, for its atmosphere, quality of food and friendly service. Much to my anguish, that all changed last night. After perusing the menu, we asked for a refresher on what was gluten free, as it's never been indicated anywhere. The waitress (who was new) advised not a lot, but would check with the chef. She came back and abruptly told us absolutely nothing. When we questioned that, and asked about the edamame for instance, which along with the sashimi is definitely gluten free, she commented in a dismissive manner as she was walking off, "oh apart from that of course." When you are easily going to be paying $50pp plus drinks, I expect cordial service not downright rudeness. I can understand the waitress may have been under pressure due to being new, but for the chef to respond in the way that he did is unforgivable. It can't be blamed on new management either, because I recognised a lot of the staff, including the chef. At that point we got up and left. Never to return. What a disappointment.

My inner Ninja-Samurai was doing cool wire-fighting back flips for joy when I entered this place, and for good reason. Haru is super happy smile time hi-five cool Joe! I have included a pic of the blown up menu that sits out the front so you can share in the awesomeness......firstly check out the spiral thingy. I saw these 'Twister Fries' on a food show recently, and I was stoked to find them on the menu at Haru! Basically they are a whole potato on a stick, cut in an unbroken spiral and deep dried.......How many times can I say awesome in one review? More, I can definately say it more! Many of the other dishes are stock standard, like the popular Chicken Katsu Don and, my personal favourite snack, Takoyaki. The Bento boxes are the big stand out though (along side the spiral spud). I tried the spicy pork Bento and it was Bento-lishes! Get on them, Awesome says it all!

*queues music* " I'm turning Japanese I think I'm turning…read moreJapanese I really think so....." My love for Japanese food is very well documented on other social media streams! I just can't get enough. You might think that being in Hahndorf and being amongst a massive German sausage fest of eateries that I would order some good German fare. Been there, done that and another story for another time. Many years ago my husband and I stumbled across Haru. Initially we were hesistant. The plastic displays of what food they have on offer out the front of the shop puts a lot of people off. It's actually a great conversation piece as we see people stare at them and screw up their faces! It does not do their food any justice. The staff have always been attentive and friendly. Always going above and beyond to ensure that we have had an enjoyable meal. The food is simple, but it is good and has been consistently good over the years. That is what gives my review 4 stars. It's not a huge selection, just enough for a quick dine-in experience or takeaway. The kids enjoyed their sushi rolls which are reasonably priced. I usually go down the Chicken Katsu Bento box but this time I decided to mix it up and get the Beef Teriyaki Bento. My hubby got the Seafood Tempura Bento. Whilst we waited for the food, I got my order of Iced Green Tea Latte!! Mmmmm!! The food comes out and it looks good! "Itadakimasu" For around $14 for the bento, I think it is great value. The meal comes with a decent serving of rice, a miso soup, a delicious cabbage salad with a sesame mayo dressing, a little seaweed salad and pickled ginger, two slices of sushi roll, a mini spring roll and some edamame beans. The Teriyaki Beef was sweet and salty and good. It came in a thin gravy like sauce which I poured over my rice. The Seafood Tempura box came with a few prawns, a decent sized tempura covered Atlantic Salmon piece and a few tempura vegetables. I was lucky enough to eat the vegetable components because my husband is 'allergic' to vegetables - so he says! "Gochiso-sama deshita" (It means thank you for the meal)

I guess I paid $60 for a $60 voucher as I really be able to use the rest. We ordered a set dinner, which has 6 courses per person, with several options for each course, as well as one wine/beer. I ordered the edamame, takoyaki, duck (main course) and matcha ice cream. On top of that, the set meal included miso soup and fried rice. I paid extra to upgrade my drink to a cocktail. The takoyaki was surprisingly good, and it came with 6 pieces, which was a generous portion. The duck breast seemed like a non-traditional choice but I like trying new things. It had a very nice flavour and was cooked well. The ice cream was a great end to the meal, it was creamy and the matcha taste was just right. My family ordered different dishes and I got to try some of them. The prawn tempura was pretty good. For the main dish, the lobster tail was really delicious. The wagyu beef was good too, although not as soft as I was hoping. The black sesame ice cream was also delicious. Overall, we had a really good time and left very satisfied. The portion sizes were larger than we expected and filled us up. Our chef, Nick, was delightful to watch and chat with. I'd definitely recommend coming here!

Tucked into a very awesome front looking yacht side of the walkers, Tomiko Japanese Steak House is definitely a sure spot to be at. With only 2 Teppanyaki Grill seating up to 8/9 people, you'll sure need to booking in advance. They have both a indoor and outdoor seating, elegantly decorated with transparent window sill to keep the cold night air out but promises to keep the view of the yacht decks and local river view displayed during your dine in. We did a walk-in and was seated immediately outdoors for a dinner setting, seating up to 6 people in our party. Unfortunately, we didn't book the Teppanyaki so we just opt to be outside. I did not see a heater unit as the weather in the summer is generally warm and cool, except for bizarre weather coming thru these days. They have a very generous selection of bottle beers, beer on tap, and unique cocktails, spirits and definitely a whole sleuth of wine selection from White to Reds. We ordered the Seafood Platter that came as pictured and it paired perfectly with my pint of fresh Sapporo Beer on tap and a glass of Cab Sauv from the hills of Adelaide. A few of our friends that were with us enjoyed their mains as much as we did. Customer service is top notch making sure you are happy and satisfied with your selection. The price is a bit on the high side as our dish alone was above the 100's. So if you're looking for something more affordable, you may want to reconsider other options. In the other hand, they have a great selection of shareable items that can possible give you the ideal meal or dinner. Recommending this establishment for those wanting to experience something different. Next time, we're going for the fresh cooking experience that is Teppanyaki.

This restaurant is one to bookmark and is really worth going out of your way to check out. Especially to try Japanese Modern takes on breakfast all day. And then there is the Ramen menu..... wow! I can not wait to return to get my hands on a bowl. They have a menu that is pretty much build your own Ramen. After being handed the menu for breakfast, I had a real hard time trying to choose between the Matcha Pancakes and The Classic (with salmon). Although I adore pancakes, I had to go with something a little more traditional for my first time. Classic it was! This dish features Grilled Atlantic Salmon, Aji-Tama (Salted Soft Boiled Egg), sweet potato salad, with Yuzu Vinaigrette Pickled Veg, rice & miso. The dish itself looked really pretty, just check out the photos. Presentation is well thought out and planned. The salmon was cooked through with a salty and sweet sauce. It tasted similar to teriyaki sauce. The sweet potato salad was mixed in with other vegetables and a kewpie mayo style sauce. Worked so well with the salmon and rice. I really loved the egg as well, it was slightly salty and really gives depth to the dish. Wash this all down with miso & tofu and you have a really perfect breakfast. I was so impressed, I am really looking for any excuse to return. Keep on the look out for my updated review when I get my hands on some Ramen! OH YES!

Other dishes ordered include the tradition breakfast, salmon bagel and ramen pizza. My breakast was delicious! Nothing to fault here. I believe everyone else enjoyed theirs too from the positive feedback making its rounds. They have ramen noodles from 10am, which wasn't yet available to us being early birds. It just means I will have to come back! I highly recommend this place because you can see the quality and love put in to this place where the food including the sweets made in-house is equally tasty. The owners are clearly dog-lovers hence the name. A small picture frame can be seen of their black pooch on top of the sweets cabinet.
