That huge mug of rice beer on a hot summers night and juicy lobster bloody awesome!
Brian T.

They think they are at the Crown, high pricing (used to be a lot cheaper) but good luck to him as the place is always full and to be fair his food is good quality. From the seaweed to the lobster it's the best produce and well cooked, good service. Confused delivery, they randomly served us sides like salad and rice 15 minutes before the main, like they are a course. Better food and service than tepanyaki place on Marina at Glenelg but this time of year and for same price go to Glenelg. A couple rocked in to be served at 9pm Sunday night, February peak season, hot summers night, the place was still near full and they refused them!!! Very poor and $150 down the drain!

Tucked into a very awesome front looking yacht side of the walkers, Tomiko Japanese Steak House is definitely a sure spot to be at. With only 2 Teppanyaki Grill seating up to 8/9 people, you'll sure need to booking in advance. They have both a indoor and outdoor seating, elegantly decorated with transparent window sill to keep the cold night air out but promises to keep the view of the yacht decks and local river view displayed during your dine in. We did a walk-in and was seated immediately outdoors for a dinner setting, seating up to 6 people in our party. Unfortunately, we didn't book the Teppanyaki so we just opt to be outside. I did not see a heater unit as the weather in the summer is generally warm and cool, except for bizarre weather coming thru these days. They have a very generous selection of bottle beers, beer on tap, and unique cocktails, spirits and definitely a whole sleuth of wine selection from White to Reds. We ordered the Seafood Platter that came as pictured and it paired perfectly with my pint of fresh Sapporo Beer on tap and a glass of Cab Sauv from the hills of Adelaide. A few of our friends that were with us enjoyed their mains as much as we did. Customer service is top notch making sure you are happy and satisfied with your selection. The price is a bit on the high side as our dish alone was above the 100's. So if you're looking for something more affordable, you may want to reconsider other options. In the other hand, they have a great selection of shareable items that can possible give you the ideal meal or dinner. Recommending this establishment for those wanting to experience something different. Next time, we're going for the fresh cooking experience that is Teppanyaki.

Samurai Express Okonomiyaki is the sub-brand of Samurai Teppanyaki house. Our first takeaway shop…read moreis located at 61-63 Grote Street, Central Market Plaza, in the heart of Adelaide CBD. We follow the traditional cooking method and cope with same standard as our Samurai Teppanyaki restaurant. The only philosophy we believe is that quality freshly cooked food is all you want for quick meal and also affordable. Like our Samurai Teppnayaki house, the concept was simply to create a convenient site that is mainly serving Okonomiyaki and Japanese snack selections, which are based on fresh cooking and traditional taste. What is Okonomiyaki? It is Japanese Pizza cooked on the grill. Our Samurai Okonomiyaki is based on lots of shredded cabbage with light crepe batter and topped with choice of bacon, chicken, seafood, beef and vegetable; finished with traditional Okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise and presented with shredded seaweed, bonito fish flake, red ginger and green onion. Okonomiyaki is your new option of healthy eating.

It's made with a variety of ingredients and you can choose your favourite version & add extra ingredients at will. I had a bacon onion Okonomiyaki with cheese. It was enjoyable. Slightly salty but not too salty, lovely and savoury, with a sweet BBQ sauce to complement the bacon & onion. There was an almost pickled or vinegary flavour in there, which I believe was from the carrot. It was an interesting sensation of flavours. Seaweed, carrot, egg, onion, bacon, flour pancake, & a few other things that I'm probably forgetting. You can also opt for a chicken Okonomiyaki, seafood, beef, veggie, or even have half n half of 2 different flavours. I think give this a go... Especially anyone who's adventurous or loves savoury. You can wash it down with a hot ginger tea, soft drink, or miso soup.

Shiki Japanese Restaurant - Best of the lot!

Ok lets get straight to the point... Do NOT go to Shiki if you A) don't love Japanese food and B)…read moreare not prepared to pay Lots of money for your food, drinks and experience. IMO Shiki is defiantly one of those, you get what you pay for type restaurants of Adelaide. It should always be reserved for ultra special occasions or the rich :-). I finally had my first Shiki experience a few days ago for my birthday and I was just blown away. My partner and I had the $140 set menu, which consisted of the best sashimi I had ever tasted, Soft shell crabs, bugs, barra, oysters, veg, beef wagyu, fried rice, miso soup, and desert as well as some tea/coffee at the end of the meal however we past on them for from outstanding sake. All aspects of the meal were outstanding in terms of taste and the quality of ingredients. Shiki is a Teppanyaki style Japanese restaurant which means you all sit around a big hot plate and the chef cooks all your food in front of you.....Flames and all! This just adds to an even greater experience and if you can somehow gather a group of 10 book your own table because I bet it would be a lot of fun. The service was also something to be noted. On several occasions I finished my glass of wine or water and within no time my glass was full. All of the staff were very friendly and extremely polite and attended to our every need. Adelaide has a lot of great Japanese restaurants around the place each with some great up sides (Kenji springs to mind), but if you want the complete dining experience you can look past Shiki.

Not stellar, but at the same time, I didn't have any shouting matches with the staff. The menu is definitely a little all over the place, but I think that they manage to acheive something that seems to be difficult for Japanese restaurants - fairly low prices on most of the dishes. And the food is alright. I had a Teppanyaki beef, which I think is probably one of the more expensive items on the menu, and it was still less than $20.

This dark little Yakitori bar on Rundle St opened up quite a while ago now, but it hasn't exploded…read morethe way it might have, given its location and drinks+snacks concept. That said, this particular location seems to be cursed - a number businesses have failed in these premises in the last five years. Since Yakitore Rundle opened, I have been a few times - mostly for some drinks and food after going to the cinema. There is a nice outdoor seating area and big booths in the dimly lit red interior. There is cheesy cute fake fireplaces and red hanging lanterns. The menu is extensive and a little confusing with it's many sections: yakitori, lunch, sushi, grilled, fried, entree, mains, hand rolls, wok and pot dishes. The many different sections make it a little difficult to gauge how big a serving will be, and whether it is appropriate for a meal or for a snack. Some items are very reasonably priced and others less so. Most of the food I've had here has been good but nothing special and other things like the confusing menu and poor service mean I wouldn't recommend this place to my friends. If you do end up here I recommend having a look at the sake menu. Dishes I enjoyed - Korean Style Stewed Beef with Kimchi, baked salmon, and the Beef Sashimi with Sesame and Mustard seeds.

We had the Feed Me Menu and every course was beautifully prepared and delightful, lots of popping bursts of exciting flavours. Excellent desserts. Good selection of wines and beers. No delays in service all arrived just at the right times. Would recommend and return. We took the tram and then walked back to our hotel!

Mimasu have only been open for a week. They are closed Sunday and Monday, the do Lunch and Dinner…read moreTuesday to Friday and dinner on Saturday. The space is small but they have quite a bit of seating and it is spaced out so you don't feel as though you are sitting on top of your fellow dinners. They have booth, bar, bench and table seating options. It's a very nice space. Sleek and contemporary. We started with two cocktails. A Lychee passion one and a sloe gin and whiskey sour. My sour was served in a martini glass which while was pretty, was not the right glass for the drink. A sour should be served in a rocks glass, over ice too, which mine was not. I liked the variation of flavour but I still prefer the right glassware to be used when drinking cocktails. The food was good, however a few dishes were flawed in particular the snapper which was either low quality or cut incorrectly as it was quite chewy. I love the burst of salmon roe and the fresh heat of jalapeño was nice. The seaweed and lotus root salad was a fantastic side and unlike the ones you get at sushi train restaurants ( the green "noodle" type). This has, I would say close to five different types of seaweed. The lotus root also added a fantastic crunchy element. The charred King Prawns were so good, the panacotta sauce was delicious. It took will power not to lick the plate clean! The sashimi was good, but once again the snapper was a let down. We also asked for more ginger, but we do love the stuff. Also as a side note, It would be nice to see Mimasu make their own pickled ginger rather than using the fluro pink ginger most other places use. The presentation for all of the aforementioned meals was very nice, you see for yourself in my pictures. Now the finish to our meal was a true let down and almost inedible. Myself and my friend are huge sweet tooths but could not finish the Chocolate Ganache and Yuzu tart with salted caramel ice cream. The ice cream was overly salted and not well made, it was icey in texture and too hard from the freezer. The tart was a sugary mess, the taste of yuzu was lost in the filling which was far too gloopy and grainy to be enjoyable. I think Mimasu want to be fine dining but their approach is too casual. It took a little too long to be greeted when we entered and this was not for lack of staff or that they were busy, I feel that the floor staff are a little too green and inexperienced still and management is not taking enough care to mentor their staff or even monitor their guest experience. Our waiter took our order on scraps of paper, which was cumbersome for her and not a very professional look. I would recommend that they either remember the order (a very old fashioned method I know, but still a smooth touch) or buy some small order or note pads. I also felt that they weren't really enthusiastic about where they were working, they didn't offer up any suggestions on what to try, if our ordering would be enough or too little or ask for feedback on the meal when we settled our bill. It didn't feel very personable. This place is not cheap. We spent $140+ for two. I expect too much perhaps? Mimasu held such high hopes for me, since I had been sneaking glimpses inside over the last few weeks, when I noticed the space take shape and bright led sign go up. I was expecting that this would be a 4 or 5 star experience but it is more of a 3 or 3.5 one that I experienced tonight.

I am never disappointed when I dine at Wasai. But, I know I have to book a table in advance as this…read moreJapanese restaurant is truly a local treasure and very popular. If you want quality Japanese and great value for money, this is the restaurant for you. Every time I go there I sample many items on the menu I am always shocked at the bill, it is very well priced! As for the best items on the menu, well it depends on what you are into. I am a huge fan of sashimi and aburi salmon, and they make both really well. Being located close to the Adelaide Central Market I think really impacts on the freshness of the fish and dishes. The sashimi is cut with great precision, not to thick or thin. Go for the sashimi boat if you want a wide selection, it is really well presented, good for groups and great value for money. If this is first time to Wasai I should probably tell you to order a boat. It is a great way to sample the menu, also you will probably get jealous when you see them delivered to other tables. Save yourself the trouble in choosing what to eat. Then fine tune your choices later, as I will guarantee you will be back. Last thing to mention is the karaage chicken. You must try the Wasai version if you like this dish. It is a lot lighter than other versions, almost like a tempura batter but with the flavoursome karaage seasonings. Sometimes you just have to treat yourself to a little JFC.

After wanting to try this place for so long, I finally managed to try it a couple of times, and holy sashimi I was not disappointed. I will even be back there again within the next fortnight, you can't keep me away! The first time I was a poor student, with another poor student, but we shared a few dishes and a drink each and it came to a measly $20 per person! And these weren't miserable, bland and small dishes either. Instead, these dishes were incredibly delicious and filling, leaving us satiated and shocked at how small the bill was when it arrived! The second time was my birthday and my Dad was paying (so still a poor student technically). We got the famous sushi and sashimi boat, after first enjoying some entrees and drinks. My absolute favourite Aburi Salmon Roll was devine, but the Takoyaki (Octopus Deep-Fried Balls) and Chicken Kaarage was also melt-in-the-mouth delicious. The sashimi and sushi was so fresh, and thoroughly impressed my Tasmanian father who's only past experience with Japanese cuisine involved a tiny take away store in Launceston (not that there is anything wrong with that)! We did find the restaurant a tad noisy, as it was very full with lots of large groups and other birthdays being celebrated, however the fast service, amazing food and cheap prices for the quality Wasai serves up makes this observation pale in comparison. Also, and this is VERY important, book a table! As every other review on here says, you might be waiting a while if you don't book, and that will be a very sad thing indeed with such lovely food so close by.
