One of the great things about living on or near The Parade is the saturation of restaurants to choose from when you are feeling like a night out or just too lazy to cook. Though, this variety can also be a burden. I should start by saying that I have a soft spot for just about anything Japanese. Hell, I am even studying the language at university! So, you could understand by utter glee when I saw that we were being blessed with our very own sushi train-esque restaurant here on The Parade.
I have been here a few times, but sadly I can't say that I have enjoyed it every time. You really have to pick your time to go. I strongly suggest if you want to get the best experience possible, you should park in front of that tantalising sushi belt from around 12-2 and 6-8. If you do go at other times follow the following rules as if your life depended on it:
Rule #1:
Check the colour of the avocado (which is generally in every kind of sushi). If its brown, turn it down. If its green, eat it before I intervene (by that I mean before I eat it. Hey, its the only rhyming word I could think of as appropriate in the context).
Rule #2:
If you are a bit iffy, as I am, about eating food that the chefs don't seem to monitor as to how long it has actually been out, wait for them to put something new out or order something specific.
Rule #3:
For all you hot (temperature, not spice) food lovers; touch the plastic dome to check for the heat. I don't know about you, but if I am mentally prepared to eat some hot karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and when I pop it in my mouth its cold (or worse, luke-warm (shudder)), a little piece of my soul dies.
Plates are colour coded according to price, ranging from $3 up to a whopping $8 for a purple plate of sashimi.
In all seriousness, the fresh sushi is fantastically tasty. I have learned from my mistakes, and hope you do too. It's a viable option to eat any time of the day, provided that you make the right choices. An average sitting with a drink is going to cost around $15-$20, depending on your appetite and/or selections, so in my opinion you have the right to be picky about your food!
