He isn't shy about getting them out for the public to enjoy either. He also loves to experiment (as do I). Mr Darcy loves inventing new flavours and toppings for his balls. Recent additions include the BallPit, with 3 pork balls squashed inside a fresh white roll with chorizo sauce and guac for $10, or the $8 Veggie with sweet potato and goats cheese topped with beetroot sauce and a mint & pea dressing. That's ball droppingly good value. I never knew I could say "ball" so many times in a review or during a food order, but as David (food truck owner) says "you can't say it without smiling." You will have a ball, or three, and then wonder how you're going to get more balls in the future. Don't worry though, Mr Darcy has you sorted.

Their kebabs tend to be the most popular choice (lamb, chicken or mince: lamb is my personal favourite) served with rice, salad and sauces (a garlic type sauce and a chilli, tomatoey one) supplied separately so you dip or poor if over your food as desired. You can dine in here, but to me it's not really a cozy dining experience - it's definitely more of a take away place. The only issue I have with Afghan Flavour is the language barrier - it is honestly really difficult to place an order. I don't know how many times I've been miss understood (the food is worth the hassle, but it is kind of a Russian roulette ordering system unless you speak the language), so if you like a bit of excitement and don't mind being surprised occasionally by all means pop in and order in person. It's a lot easier if you are only ordering for one but as soon as start ordering multiples... Well that's where you will face difficulty. You can also order online - I have tried this once, which is why I am here this evening, to collect... I would have thought this would be a fool proof method in terms of placing an order... Somehow though, we still seem to be having difficulties. They really do try, they are really friendly and despite the constant mix up, I can't help but keep coming back. I just ask my husband what he would like and remind him not to get too excited because he may end up with something different... To be honest, if i could give 3.5 stars i would (3 isn't enough, 4 might be on the higher side considering the ordering difficulty) Maybe I should try writing my order down next time...

Having tried the real deal in Taiwan and Hong Kong I decided to give the Adelaide shop a try. And as of this review I've been 3-4 times in the past month. The chicken breast is so juicy and tender, something that KFC cannot get right. The coating is really really crispy but it also has a nice chewy feel to it. The best part about the experience is the seasoning. It's quite unique, I've never had the spice blend outside of hotstar. It's a mix of five spice, salt, sugar, some kind of hot ground chilli and maybe other things. It's a bit like Korean fried chicken, minus the vinegar. The mix of sweet and savoury really sets it apart. The product itself would get a solid 4.5, but the price drags it down. It's not great value because the whole point of street food is good food at a good price. Granted, we are in Australia, but $8.50 is a a bit steep, compared to say $2-3 aud equivalent for the Asian equivalent. Although it's one saving grace is the $5 off pepper lunch for each chicken purchase. So, hotstar is among the best fried chicken in Adelaide, it's a real flavour bomb, but it's not very well priced. Also service is below average but for this kind of place it's not a huge issue.

I opted for the spicy topping. Shared it between three people as an entree. Customer service is pretty non-existent. Do not hold your breath for service with a smile. I guess like most fast food places, one shouldn't have such standards. When asked if we could get the chicken cut into threes, our request was declined without a reason. Just that "we don't do that here...hmm Service aside, the KFC was not bad. Coupled with the cold weather and empty stomachs, it hit the spot for us. I am not sure if I would have it regularly, as the coating has a chewy texture which doesn't appeal to me. However, it might chase away hangovers if you are looking for something deep fried and quick and happens to be on Grote Street.

But when you are a veg*an, or keen on local or organic produce, your night off options are usually non-existent or too expensive. What luck then to have a treasure like home based catering business Studio Voodoo so close to home in paradise at Port Willunga. Anna & Matt from Studio Voodoo have a weekly 'foodie Friday' club, with a new menu released early each week on Facebook & via SMS. Orders are then taken via Facebook or SMS, and you then pick up your goodies on a Friday evening between 4pm and 8pm from their gorgeous eco-friendly house. Meals are served on crockery and trays which you return (washed of course!) for re-use so that Studio Voodoo is no waste. The food is all made from local, organic produce and is 100% vegan. There is often a raw dish or two, and gluten free options are clearly marked. Sometimes there is a weekly theme, and other weeks it is a round up of past favourites or new creations. The menus are so tempting, making a choice can be really hard - so there is also a weekly "Share Plate" with small portions of most of the things on the weekly menu, plus extras, enough to feed two people for $30. The share plates always feature freshly home baked Turkish bread sprinkled with sesame, or garlic Turkish. The delicious beetroot hommus also makes regular appearances, perfect for dunking the Turkish bread into! All of the salads are fresh, crunchy and flavoursome. The signature salad has herb, spinach & rocket mix with roast pumpkin, pomegranate, pecans, dates and delicious savoury chickpeas, with dressing on the side for you to add. Studio Voodoo always keep experimenting and coming up with tempting new dishes, like too-cute vegan sliders that came with one of the share plates in January. Also popular are the home made pastas. Stuffed with an ever changing array of house made flavours, including vegan cheese and artichoke with rocket pesto, pistachio and olive tapenade. Now that Autumn is here, abundant root veggies and figs find their way into the menu. Last week the share plate featured a fresh fig & pistachio salad, mushroom pate (with agar jelly!), zuchinni fritters with saffron aoli, bejeweled Mexican rice, and a cheesy artichoke tart with artichoke & pumpkin, plus cute edible flower decoration. The chocolate & beetroot cake with choc-cardamon ganache was particularly delicious and a steal at $8 with plenty for two sweet tooths to enjoy. When they are offered, grab some of the choc-maple ice cream cookie sandwiches too! For more drool inducing pictures and menus check out their Facebook page. Studio Voodoo is an affordable and healthy weekly service with restaurant quality meals. See you there Friday!
