Let out your battle cry! This meal is not for the faint hearted and is about as manly as a BBQ can…read moreget. It only happens annually in the Garden of Unearthly Delights (February - March every year). So, if you have not tried it this year, get on down to the Garden quick smart before you miss out! Pigs on Fire originally started as a small set up a couple of years ago in the Garden. I remember when it was first set up you could smell the wafting smoke and BBQ pork throughout the whole park! It drew people to it. Like a cartoon, people floated in the air sniffing until they found the source of the hypnotic delicious smells. Now this BBQ is big and has it's own seating area and bar set up around it. It is an attraction in itself. The BBQ is set up Traditionally Dutch with large iron grills chained together in levels above a camp style fire. The fire looks to be lit with red gum for smokey flavour (but I could be wrong about the type of wood). The most entertaining part of the BBQ is watching the Chef's tilt, swirl and swing the BBQ grill over the fire to ensure that it stays lit and for even smoke distribution. Kind of like a BBQ swing. Also, I found it amusing the amount of gentlemen standing, watching and nodding at each other. As if to say, "Now that is how you BBQ!" As for the pork, well, if I could give it 10 stars I would. It is just something to be experienced. If you like smokey, salty and sweet porky flavours this is for you. I ordered the BBQ meats special. Like usual, I just want to try everything. So, out came a massive plate of meat! For me, a little girl, I was intimidated by my dinner! The only veggies on my plate was some lovely pickled onions and a piece of green cos lettuce (for colour I guess). My plate featured a sausage (with caraway, mustard seeds and beautiful seasoning), roast pork, pulled pork, seasoned crackling skin, and bread. Although this was a meat fest, it was a dreamy meat fest! Oh my, the crackling was the best I have ever tried; I could just eat a plate of it. Other options for those not wanting the mountain of meat, includes a pulled pork roll or a serving of roast pork/sausage, with smoked cauliflower, carrots and a creamy pearl barley side (kind of like a risotto). What I like about this BBQ is that it is a show as well as a meal. You can set yourself up at a table, enjoy amazing food and watch the boys cook it.

Recent additions include the BallPit, with 3 pork balls squashed inside a fresh white roll with chorizo sauce and guac for $10, or the $8 Veggie with sweet potato and goats cheese topped with beetroot sauce and a mint & pea dressing. That's ball droppingly good value. I never knew I could say "ball" so many times in a review or during a food order, but as David (food truck owner) says "you can't say it without smiling." I came across their bright yellow truck when I was on my way to try a new Burger Theory Art Burger. Usually I'm right on top of the food truck goss, but this cupcake truck had been serving in the city for a whole month and I was yet to hear about it. What is going on in the world?! So after lining up for my burger I moseyed over to check out their wares. With 5 flavours on offer I of course went for the 6 pack, grabbing one of each and 2 banana cupcakes. They were pretty and very cheap (at $16 for 6). I really wanted to love these. Like really really wanted to love these. I mean.. cupcakes... from a truck... cupcakes... But unfortunately they just didn't deliver. The icing was the first major letdown. I'm a fan of a delicious but not over the top icing (and I'm a fiend for cream cheese icing), but the flavours were all quite 'fake' tasting and while I can't be certain, there was a distinct similarity to Betty Crocker chocolate & vanilla frosting. The choc mint cupcake strongly reminded me of toothpaste - and not the yummy varieties that you sneakily enjoy while brushing your teeth. ;) The cakes themselves - better, but still not great. The flavour of the cakes was a little generic, and there just wasn't too much that stood out. With plenty of other great options in the CBD (I'm looking at you BTS http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/bts-cafe-adelaide), I just don't think this is the time for the Cupcake Truck to shine. But when you are a veg*an, or keen on local or organic produce, your night off options are usually non-existent or too expensive. What luck then to have a treasure like home based catering business Studio Voodoo so close to home in paradise at Port Willunga. Anna & Matt from Studio Voodoo have a weekly 'foodie Friday' club, with a new menu released early each week on Facebook & via SMS. Orders are then taken via Facebook or SMS, and you then pick up your goodies on a Friday evening between 4pm and 8pm from their gorgeous eco-friendly house. Meals are served on crockery and trays which you return (washed of course!) for re-use so that Studio Voodoo is no waste. The food is all made from local, organic produce and is 100% vegan. There is often a raw dish or two, and gluten free options are clearly marked. Sometimes there is a weekly theme, and other weeks it is a round up of past favourites or new creations. The menus are so tempting, making a choice can be really hard - so there is also a weekly "Share Plate" with small portions of most of the things on the weekly menu, plus extras, enough to feed two people for $30. The share plates always feature freshly home baked Turkish bread sprinkled with sesame, or garlic Turkish. The delicious beetroot hommus also makes regular appearances, perfect for dunking the Turkish bread into! All of the salads are fresh, crunchy and flavoursome. The signature salad has herb, spinach & rocket mix with roast pumpkin, pomegranate, pecans, dates and delicious savoury chickpeas, with dressing on the side for you to add. Studio Voodoo always keep experimenting and coming up with tempting new dishes, like too-cute vegan sliders that came with one of the share plates in January. Also popular are the home made pastas. Stuffed with an ever changing array of house made flavours, including vegan cheese and artichoke with rocket pesto, pistachio and olive tapenade. Now that Autumn is here, abundant root veggies and figs find their way into the menu. Last week the share plate featured a fresh fig & pistachio salad, mushroom pate (with agar jelly!), zuchinni fritters with saffron aoli, bejeweled Mexican rice, and a cheesy artichoke tart with artichoke & pumpkin, plus cute edible flower decoration. The chocolate & beetroot cake with choc-cardamon ganache was particularly delicious and a steal at $8 with plenty for two sweet tooths to enjoy. When they are offered, grab some of the choc-maple ice cream cookie sandwiches too! For more drool inducing pictures and menus check out their Facebook page. Studio Voodoo is an affordable and healthy weekly service with restaurant quality meals. See you there Friday!

Their kebabs tend to be the most popular choice (lamb, chicken or mince: lamb is my personal favourite) served with rice, salad and sauces (a garlic type sauce and a chilli, tomatoey one) supplied separately so you dip or poor if over your food as desired. You can dine in here, but to me it's not really a cozy dining experience - it's definitely more of a take away place. The only issue I have with Afghan Flavour is the language barrier - it is honestly really difficult to place an order. I don't know how many times I've been miss understood (the food is worth the hassle, but it is kind of a Russian roulette ordering system unless you speak the language), so if you like a bit of excitement and don't mind being surprised occasionally by all means pop in and order in person. It's a lot easier if you are only ordering for one but as soon as start ordering multiples... Well that's where you will face difficulty. You can also order online - I have tried this once, which is why I am here this evening, to collect... I would have thought this would be a fool proof method in terms of placing an order... Somehow though, we still seem to be having difficulties. They really do try, they are really friendly and despite the constant mix up, I can't help but keep coming back. I just ask my husband what he would like and remind him not to get too excited because he may end up with something different... Having tried the real deal in Taiwan and Hong Kong I decided to give the Adelaide shop a try. And as of this review I've been 3-4 times in the past month. The chicken breast is so juicy and tender, something that KFC cannot get right. The coating is really really crispy but it also has a nice chewy feel to it. The best part about the experience is the seasoning. It's quite unique, I've never had the spice blend outside of hotstar. It's a mix of five spice, salt, sugar, some kind of hot ground chilli and maybe other things. It's a bit like Korean fried chicken, minus the vinegar. The mix of sweet and savoury really sets it apart. The product itself would get a solid 4.5, but the price drags it down. It's not great value because the whole point of street food is good food at a good price. Granted, we are in Australia, but $8.50 is a a bit steep, compared to say $2-3 aud equivalent for the Asian equivalent. Although it's one saving grace is the $5 off pepper lunch for each chicken purchase. So, hotstar is among the best fried chicken in Adelaide, it's a real flavour bomb, but it's not very well priced. Also service is below average but for this kind of place it's not a huge issue.

I am not sure if I would have it regularly, as the coating has a chewy texture which doesn't appeal to me. I absolutely loved the pulled pork, thought it was the winner out of the meats, and it went so well with the apple slaw. The mac n cheese was great, but serving sizes for the sides were a bit small (I ate 4 'serves' of mac n cheese and could easily have eaten more). The potato tots were salty and crispy and tasted great with the blue cheese dipping sauce. I absolutely hate blue cheese, but this sauce was great. The only disappointment for me was the beef brisket. It tasted nice but hadn't been cooked long enough so the fat hadn't broken down properly. Not a huge deal though as I was happy to keep going back to that delicious pulled pork. The staff were really great and the store itself had a really good vibe. If you're thinking of going I have two pieces of advice for you: 1. Book a table! They are really busy so you'll probably miss out if you don't book 2. Go as soon as they open! They only cook a certain amount of each item and sell out quite regularly. My husband went there once at 7pm and they'd already sold out of the beef brisket (they have a count on the wall that tells you how many of each are still available that night).
