I am not always a huge fan of AYCE sushi as it typically offers a lot of limitations including specialty roles, but this is not the case with Sakura. There are tons of offerings for AYCE and the staff is very attentive and comes around frequently for additional orders. I have been to Sakura soo many of times so I am a seasoned vet of this place. It is def my go-to for quick, local AYCE. The sushi is always fresh and tastes amazing. Appetizers and non-sushi items on the AYCE menu are also always good. My boyfriend does not like sushi and Sakura is one of his favorites because of the chicken wings & beef fried rice. My only complaint is the lunch menu isn't my favorite and some menu items aren't as good/fresh as they normally are for dinner. This is now my new favorite sushi place in the Charlotte metro area. You can order a la carte but they have all you can eat from anything on the menu which is a much better value. Lunch is less expensive but there is a somewhat more limited menu but still comprehensive. I went in for an early dinner on Saturday and had no trouble getting a table. Dinner prices apply all day on weekends and it is well worth it. I got a table at about 4:45 PM and had the best server on earth, Teresa. She was attentive, personable, professional and knew exactly what I liked. I started with my favorite things which were, grilled salmon skin salad, fried tofu, edamame, miso soup and ikura (salmon roe eggs), mackeral sushi. They have cooked items as well. Also, sashimi choices. All of it was delicious. I love the way it comes out very quickly. Other wait staff see to it that you get your orders immediately when prepared. Everything was extremely fresh, high quality and beautifully presented. You order anything you want from the menu and all they ask is that you do not waste the food. My prior review had this place at a 5. I was going just about once a week until I found a hair on one of my rolls in October of last year. They gave me a fair discount and I just didn't eat that piece. Flash forward about 8 months, I decided to come back for a lunch out. Gone are the paper menus where you select what you want and how much of it you'd like. You have to order through the server, who has a tablet. This is annoying when you want to order a variety of food and have to remember which items to name off. I don't think you can pick the individual quantity of each item like you could before, promoting potential food waste. The new menu also seems to have some things cut or possibly hidden. They used to have ice cream as a dessert option, so I asked about it. They said they still offered it for free but it's not on the menu because the flavors change. Still, it'd be good to know that we at least a choice. Overall, I'd give my experience a 3. I much prefer the paper slip ordering system, and the special roll selection for lunch is not good. This has quickly become my husband's FAVORITE sushi spot. I love their vegetable hand rolls and their sweet potato sushi. The fried rice and hibachi vegetables never miss. The little fountain at the entrance is very cute and most of the time they have these huge projectors running that have cycling images of leaves falling or fish swimming - it is very relaxing for kids too (especially if you have one that loves baby sensory videos, they will be fascinated by the projectors).
