Worst service ever! We sat for 20 minutes and the waitress never came to greet us or offer us drinks. There was only one other table there. We had to get up and leave. I do not recommend this place it is the second time I go and the service was just as bad the first time. read more

We were passing through and thought this would be a fun place to take the kids. There was no wait when we arrived so we were seated immediately at the hibachi table. Immediately I was concerned because the chairs are WAY too low for the table. As a 5'9" tall person, the plates were at chest height and almost to my chin! We had our 6 and 8 year old with us so we of course tried the booster seats...was not happy. They did not have their liquor license yet either. After ordering our drinks and having 1 sip we left. Of course we still paid our drink bill which was $9.68 for 2 sodas and 2 iced teas. No thanks! read more

Went for lunch while out shopping on Valentine's Day. Seated promptly as only 3 other tables occupied. Were given menus and asked for our drink order. When drinks arrived, and we had already started on them, the waitress came to take our order. We wanted the bento box lunches, which we have been told were quite tasty. We were now informed that lunch, and lunch prices, were not being served (at 1:30 p.m) because it was Valentine's day. We paid for our drinks and left, without anyone apologizing, or even attempting an explanation. We thought that was a very poor way to do business. There were ample opportunities for either the hostess or the waitress to inform us of their "specia" menu pricing, before we ordered our drinks. We'll think twice before returning. read more

Read this!! OK now. I'm originally from NM and graduated NMSU Las Cruses in '81. We've lived in Japan 5 different times for a total of about 13 years. I know the culture, speak the language, and last but definitely not least I do know Japanese food and sushi. We drove by Sakura for a couple of months until it finally opened. We love it. I always order take out Yaki Steak Udon for my wife. Living in Japan spoiled me with sushi prices, which can be like going out and getting a cheeseburger. So I rarely order sushi in the US, unless it comes with a buffet, of which Las Cruses and El Paso have a good variety of Asian buffets. Other than the Chinese employees at Sakura, they can't seem to keep local American employees all of which have been nice except for one. Here it comes. Last Thursday night, 19 Jan '17, I call in my order to Sakura while waiting in the drive-up at Roberto's in Las Cruses, a well established outstanding Mexican food place, for my menudo and caldo. The American employee at Sakura on the phone had to ask where Yaki Udon Steak was on the menu..-she asked -me where it was on the menu. Having the menu memorized I told her it is under the Appetizers. She then asked where, so I spelled it for her. Then she said oh, it comes with steak, how would you like your steak cooked? I started laughing on my cell, saying you must be new there. (Yaki Udon Steak is small strips of steak in thick udon noodles.) She said I am and I don't want to get your order wrong. I should have taken that que and opted to go to Sakura, go inside and place the order. I must have explained it to her several times, the spelling, etc. I also order shrimp and vegetables tempura again walking her through where it is located on the menu. Then whalla I go pick it up with the employee in question treating me like I was in a truckstop. I take it back to White Sands Missile Range where we live and work 30 miles away, to my wife, and low and behold, it was Yaki Steak SOBA. I should have checked it before I left Sakura, since American kids are used to not having any responsibility with us other folks picking up after them and teaching them their jobs at the same time. Anyway, Soba is thin buckwheat noodles, a world apart from thick wheat flour udon noodles. Anyway Sakura we're coming back tonight to order Yaki Udon Steak. I hope it is understood that one employee can really hurt your wonderful restaurant. I'll try calling in the order, but if that happens again, I'll simply come to your place, come inside and place the order then come back 15-20 minutes later. And I won't place the order with that employee if she's still there. We love your food and we love yall too. Just be careful who you let work in your restaurant, ok? ;-) Go Sakura! Your are great! read more

Sub-par service, decent hibachi food, good hibachi entertainment, horrendous management. This restaurant was so terribly understaffed it is tough to blame the horrible service and extremely long wait times on the staff. 45 minutes to get a beer, another 20 minutes before we finally asked the waitress to take our order, 20 more minutes to get appetizers, and after being there 1:35, the hibachi finally starts. Had to beg for the check. From start to finish was 2 hours 17 minutes. read more

Just not good. Went in on Tuesday for Hibachi. First, they were out of the wine on the menu. Then, they only had 1 Chef - our table already had 5 waiting, we sat down. Waited about 50 minutes. Then, Hibachi Chef was nice, but, it just didn't cut it. Food was so, so - but...the rice had crunchy pieces in it - like, they almost used instant. Katana has nothing to fear here. read more

Have visited this place twice. Can honestly say I am completely unimpressed by the level of service! Lots of employees running around and no one that really can help. Buyer beware don't spend your time or efforts at this place. Much better service from the staff at Katana. read more

Amazing sushi! Average price, similar to a hearty meal at most dine in establishments. Pleasant employees, who are highly entertaining, great place for date night or even a family lunch.Only downside is the last call for the grill is early. read more

11 ladies who lunch: 1 chicken fried rice, 3 Shrimp Tempura, 1 Veggie Tempura, 4 hibachi chicken, 2 hibachi shrimp. Saw smiles all around. Where else can the ladies go for lunch and a floor show? Food was great, plus we were well taken care of. I see a return visit in the near future read more

The food, in my opinion, is quite good. I always enjoy eating the sushi and fried rice from Sakura. However, I NEVER eat at the restaurant anymore, and instead opt for take-out if I'm really craving sushi. The serving staff are some of the rudest workers I've ever encountered. I've worked in the food industry and can understand the occasional bad day, but never have I eaten at this establish and NOT felt like I was an extreme nuisance to the staff just for existing--do y'all want my business or not? The greeter is cold and unfriendly, the servers are forgetful and terse, they huff and puff at you for requesting ANYTHING--whether it's a box for your leftovers or a refill of your drink. And lord help you if you're having trouble deciding on any food item; instead of giving suggestions or offering to come back in a few minutes once you've decided, the servers often roll their eyes and stand there pressuring you to hurry it up. I'm not one to complain about such things, but I've complained to the management on more than one occasion about the treatment of customers. I'm unsure how this behavior is tolerated if they expect to keep their business afloat. I've even been huffed at over the phone when I'm just ordering take-out!! Really the only saving grace of this place is the food...their business will really be in trouble if the chef(s) ever quit! read more

Normally I have a decent experience, but this past weekend was the worst. We arrived at 930 p.m. and decided to eat at the teppanyaki grill. We were seated for about 10 minutes and was rudely asked by the waiter "Rock" to move to another table because the two chefs were fighting. So we did, but in doing so my girlfriend left her menu at the table, and was told by the waiter that she needs to take it to the other table, We put our drink and dinner orders in, but the waiter started to give us attitude because he could not understand us, and had us point to our orders on the menu. We never heard or saw him again until it was time to pay the bill around 10:55 where he waited until we brought our cash/cards out. After we paid, "Rock", at exactly 11:00 P.M. told us we need to leave because they're closed. My friend had half a bottle of beer still, and asked if she could finish it. "Rocky" said no that we had to leave now, saying it at least another three times. I honestly would not recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore, service and quality has dropped drastically. read more

I can see why some people complain about the servers here. My server first messed up and gave someone else my order and didn't correct the other persons order on the table. Same group separate bill. Then she forgot to give me my order completely and another order of fried rice. After about half an hour or so of me waiting for my sushi rolls finally remembers says she is sorry and asked me if I still wanted the rolls cause she gave mine away. Or course I was hungry and I said yes then she added since she messed up she will go ahead and take care of the rolls and is not pay for the rolls since she forgot and messed up. Great PR move there but when it came down to it still was missing an order. I said forget it I got free rolls I can't complain now. Another issue is we had to keep reminding her to refill out drinks. Like come on. I'm a great tipper take advantage please. So when it came down to pay the bill I got the surprise of my life, the charges of the rolls that were supposed to be free were added to my total. So I called our waiter over and asked politely how come it's still showing the amount for the rolls when she said I wasn't going to pay for them which then since the whole table heard they made a comment right away about it as well. Then she came back with she did wave it and that she waived the previous order that she brought out which if you remember she gave to someone else. So the game continues with them, I advised her on how she stated that I would not pay for it and not to worry then she said ok I'll see what I can do. She bring a manager over to our table which then the manager tells us that the check was correct and I'm going to pay. So we begin to argue now advising her on what was said and what needed to be done then she said boldly you are the sushi didn't you. So your going to pay. Then I advised if I knew that it was a lie that was going to be told I would've waited to leave and got fast food. Not to mention the party that received my first order had to pay for everything given to them even though again waiter said not to worry that it'll get resolved. I'm not in anyway shape or form racist but a Hispanic waiter came along and asked what was wrong and I told her everything and basically there own waiter std that since they r Asian that the things they say don't mean what they really want to say. But our Asian waiter was very fluent in English. So she advised us that basically the waiter paid for the Las Vegas roll that was supposed to be on my bill which we never received but the rest we would have to pay. Which I promise you that no way in hell did she even mention a Las Vegas roll but instead that our roll order would be waived. Manager would not honor there word I paid the total amount very angrily, and told myself never again, and I'm a foodie I give good reviews and tip very well. Now that place left me salty forever need another habachi grill place and get rid of the rudeness and deceive fullness of Sakura Steak grill. read more
