Gyoza
Lita G.

Setting expectations clear since the reviews threw me off. This place is more of a takeout location, lots of options for sushi and chinese food, quick, and definitely more fast food style. I stopped by for lunch since I was in the area and the reviews were fantastic. I ordered the gyoza and Sakura roll which had a bit of an odd description and turned out to be a combo and not a full roll. So the gyoza is deep fried instead of pan fried, decent taste but yeah more like fast food. The "roll" was actually a small salmon roll with a side of salmon and tuna sashimi rolled like flowers. The fish tasted fresh, which is a huge plus in this area because that's been a problem at other places I've tried. Unfortunately the rice and seaweed were not great, so it turned out a bit chewy. The food came on styrofoam plates you toss out. You order and pick up at the counter, and they have clorox wipes available at all the tables. Fresh and quick, good service, but not great sushi all around.

The Special Box with spring rolls, shrimp teriyaki, fried rice, and the East Roll

This little gem in a strip mall is amazing. A great find for Hazel Green Meridianville Area when you want great sushi/hibachi/Chinese for a wonderful price. I got the bento box type meal which came with shrimp teriyaki and a California Roll and it was really good. The teriyaki sauce was a little bit thick, but the vegetables and the rice was a great counter balance. The crab rangoons were great as well, but nothing super special about them. I really enjoyed their sushi. I will definitely be back to enjoy lunch or dinner or grab something to go. The customer service was great, very friendly and talkative, you can tell it's a locally owned business which is amazing due to the personalities and friendliness.

We had a good experience at this place! Now keep in mind, it's outside of a motel (not a hotel)…read moreand there's also a bar sharing the premises...so parking is a niiiiiightmare. With that out of the way, the restaurant was cute inside, we were seated promptly (even on a Friday night), and our server was friendly. This isn't "blow your mind" sushi, it's "reasonably priced, gut busting" sushi...which is what I was in the mood for. We started with edamame (unnecessary given the rest of the meal) which was fine. Onto the miso soup and ginger dressing salad that are standard with every restaurant of this ilk (note: they were fine). We both got sushi combination boxes, which come with two rolls of your standard varieties (think choices like California roll, spicy tuna, etc.), gyoza, some tempura, and a sliced orange. It was all well prepared, reasonably priced, and tasty. We were honestly stuffed to the gills. Again, this is not "ooh my god" sushi, this is not "I will literally drain my expense account" sushi, but this is well prepared, reasonably priced, tasty food. In response to other reviews: The place is spotless. The building is old, sure, but everything from the tables to the restroom was spotless. I am "that person" who notices. Service was kind and efficient, but they are not going to hover...which I welcomed. And if you think it's overpriced, feel free to try Publix.

They really utilized the space to give a feeling of being somewhere that's not Decatur Alabama and not the old Red lobster building. Whoever their interior designer was, hats off to you, WOW. (The tables are even branded!) My chicken katsu Curry was really yummy. It was so much chicken. I mean it felt like a huge serving to me. More like what I would cook for myself and my two toddlers. I had to take some home it was so much. I really want to try the donburi next time, or maybe the ramen. My cocktail was absolutely delicious. It was a rainbow plum wine that had Coca-Cola but, super surprised at how delicious, good mix. My husband really enjoyed his steak Teriyaki, I had a patient was very tender. While I didn't cry over the deliciousness of the food, it's definitely not bad and I feel like I really need to try a lot more of their menu, but the other customers around us looked really happy with their ramen bowls. Oh my goodness! We had a robot deliver us drinks and it was so cute and it had a happy little . The server was nice too and food came quickly. All I know is that I am going back to support them as often as I can because I don't want decatur to lose a restaurant that's actually trying to add flavor to this town without acting like they're for Richie-Rich people only. Adorable, affordable, and awesome night out.

A buddy of mine took me here earlier this year when a mutual friend and his kids came to visit. We…read morehad an awesome experience with out chef, who clowned the kids and delivered a show and great food on a random Tuesday afternoon. Came with my family hoping to replicate the experience on Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm. Place was mostly empty and we were promptly seated. Ordered off the hibachiunch menu and wete brought our soups or salads. Took about 15 minutes for the chef to come out and start making out food. It was a much younger guy and he was not into it. He had an airpod in and was on a 9 way video call of some sorts with his phone on the food cart. He did a little perfunctory interaction with the kids and spatula whacking/egg balancing/fire column at the beginning and then just proceeded to cook out food and mutter into his call. Kinda off putting and definitely a much poorer experience than my first time here. My family liked the food -- we got steak and chicken, chicken, and shrimp hibachi. Portions were all very large. I loved my steak and thought the chicken was dry, veggies a little hard but my half Asian wife thought everything was good so maybe it was just my unhappiness with the chef. I'll probably try again, but maybe go during a more prime time when hopefully the better chef is cooking.

We tried the Southern Rock 'n' Roll sushi, which was great. However, the fish tank could use a cleaning, The fish couldn't see anyone. The bathrooms are clean but a bit dark. So this was interesting one. We took a big group up to Joe Wheeler to look around the park and…read morewere hungry for lunch before we went home. One in our party had been here before and recommended we stop here. This is a restaurant serving both Mexican and Japanese food, though I wouldn't call it fusion. Both are fairly Americanized Mexican and Japanese dishes (think chicken and cheese on rice, and hibachi with all manner of meats and "yum yum" sauce), but it's a large menu and it had something for everyone, so it was a good fit for our quite large group. We arrived not long after opening and so they were able to seat us without any trouble -- I believe there were 11 of us total. The restaurant is large and was somewhat dimly lit but inviting enough. The bathroom was tidy despite being a little stinky. There's a large bar toward the back and it looked like there was space for dancing or musical acts. Service was efficient and friendly and patient with several party members' special requests. They also handled our many separate checks with skill. Chips and salsa came right out. The salsa was actually a highlight for me; it was surprisingly tasty and flavorful with a tiny bit of heat. Better than the average Americanized Mexican food salsa. We got a mix of items, though I think we leaned more heavily Mexican dishes. I got the Pollo Lucy off their relatively affordable lunch special menu. It's your standard chicken, cheese dip, and rice, with bonus salsa verde offered in a small squirt bottle. Although this isn't my preferred "style" of Mexican food, this was fairly good for what it was, particularly the chicken. It had a pleasant texture and was well cooked and seasoned. The rice, unfortunately, was overcooked and quite mushy and flavorless. Fortunately, that's where the copious amount of cheese dip comes in handy, lol. I liked the salsa verde and shared it with another dining companion who needed a little more umph in the taco salad she ordered. No one really raved about the food but no one really complained, either, hence the so so rating. I do appreciate the accommodations they made to ensure the two younger kids in our party would have something they liked to eat (making a plain bean burrito, serving plain cheese dip over rice, etc). That was really nice of them. Again, not really my preferred "style" of Mexican OR Japanese food for that matter, but solid enough, especially given the relative dearth of options in the area.
