First time here in Athens ALABAMA. We thought it was a hibachi steakhouse but it's not. They have a central grill where they cook and bring to your table. The server was very friendly. Two people had the teriyaki bento box that was pretty good but the chicken was just thin white meat cooked and put on top of sauce. The fried rice was fine and spring roll was a little greasy. Two people has sushi and they said is was good not great. My wife had the tempura box and it was probably the best dish. The next time I come, if I come, I will have the tempura. The food came out pretty fast. Soup was pretty good as well as the ginger salad. If the chicken bento box was better I would have given 4 stars. read more

I was so excited to find a hibachi steakhouse with good reviews, but this place left a lot to be desired. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi. The salad that came with it is supposed to be ginger salad but the dressing was so heavy on the mayo that you barely tasted any ginger. So it was like salad with mayo on top. The steak was very tough and hard to eat. The shrimp was cooked well though. The fried rice had no flavor and no veggies in it. It was literally just rice and some watered-down soy sauce. Lastly, the brown sauce that the hibachi is cooked in, was very thick and there was so much of it. It tasted like a pre-packaged terriyaki sauce because it was very syrupy. Dining options in Huntsville are a little lackluster at best, so when my grandparents suggested Japanese in nearby Athens, I was wary. However, Samurai's is certainly A-OK. While the atmosphere in a renovated Long John Silvers leaves something to be desired, the food is relatively fresh, the portions plentiful, the prices reasonable, and the service pleasant. We started with several orders of spring rolls (okay) and a order of calamari (very good). The hibachi entrees were a popular pick, and the protein portions in them were generous - an order of shrimp were the large variety with maybe 15 pieces or more. The fried rice was fragrant, salty, and stuffed with veggies, pretty much all you can ask for. A chicken tempura bento box was perhaps the best food value of the night, coming with salad, soup, a California roll, a spring roll, and generous portions of tempura fried chicken tenders and assorted veggies for around $12. My sushi was about as good as you'd expect sushi to be in the middle of Alabama -solid grocery store level sushi. Enough to satisfy a sushi craving, but I wouldn't recommend venturing much further than your basic tuna or salmon rolls as far as raw fish goes. There aren't many places in this area of Alabama that I'd gladly return to for dinner, but I'll happily add Samurai to the list. read more

My love for Samurai Steak House runs deep. I've been dining here for years now, and they never fail to amaze me. The staff is very friendly and eager to please and the food is always prepared fresh and absolutely tasty. I always opt for the 3 roll lunch special for $8.95 and choose two chicken tempura rolls and one shrimp tempura roll. The special comes with the generic salad but I also add the clear soup. By the end of the meal, I'm always pleasantly stuffed. Needless to say, every time I come back into town this is always one of my first stops. read more

There's nothing to eat along interstate 65 between birmingham and nashville that isnt a chain. This is right off 65. We had seaweed salad, edamame, hot tea, tuna sashimi roll, and pink dragon roll. All under 30 bucks. Definitely our midway stop between florida and tennessee from now on. To the gentleman rater concerned with the portions... its a japanese restaurant not a Chinese trough. My first time trying this place, dining with in-laws after church. Location is small and quaint, but the food is good. Lunch specials are reasonably priced, $8-$10, but you don't get much in my opinion, but I'm a hearty eater. Good sushi menu if that's your thing. This is easily one of the best restaurants in all of North Alabama. Definitely the highest value Japanese or Chinese. The restaurant has incredible food consistently, competent service, and the restaurant is always clean and well kept. The owners are usually there and care about you having a great experience.
