The staff were extremely rude. We came in to sit at a hibachi table. As a group of youth kids, not every person wanted to get hibachi. Because of this, the staff got angry at us because we took a hibachi table even though we were willing to pay for the whole experience and til well. There are around 7 of us who are 16 and above willing to tip well on top of suggested gratuity. Not to mention it took 25 minutes to get drinks and no straws. I came to my home town on 24 May and decided to stop in and eat at Sakura. They had a sign on the door stating they will be closed for the next couple of months for renovations. The place was a little dark but hopefully the renovation will brighten the place up. The place was a tad busy which is expected on a Friday during a holiday weekend. The people in the place seemed to be enjoying themselves. I ordered chicken katsu and it was pretty good, I wished the rice had a tad more seasoning. But overall no complaints. The service at this restaurant is so bad. My sister and I used to come here a few times a year as it started off as one of our favorite places to come to. However once our waitress left, oh my goodness it's been an unsatisfying experience. One waitress embarrassed us while we were trying to place our order, raised her voice trying to understand what we wanted. Then a younger waitress slammed our waters on the table, same with our soups and salads and then when it came to paying, no eye contact, just continued attitude and I just threw my receipt on their desk. Then we thought after their renovations we would try it again to see if service changed. Was there last night, same thing. Same experience. We just wanted to place an order to go. The woman at the counter barely made eye contact, and spoke in a tone that made our experience once again unsatisfactory. Then when our order was ready, one woman left so fast I had to catch her for extra sauces. She spoke to me across the room that sauces were already in the bag. I told yes and I'd like extra sauces like sweet and sour sauce for the crab rangoons. Before I could finish what I was saying this woman was telling me across the room that they don't have any sour, they don't have any sour. I was like, okay, but I'd still like more teriyaki and the other sauces. I could tell she was very annoyed as been my experience in the past. I just took my two cups of soy sauce and whatever sauce they had for their crab rangoons and left. Food is great if you can get past their irritating attitudes. Gosh I'm so disappointed. Usually my order is great. I had a To-go order yesterday. I ordered the steak hibachi. I requested medium rare steak. The container barely had any of the vegetables and almost half of it was filled with noodles which I had not ordered. I came here with my co-worker for a quick take-out lunch and he told me it was pretty good. I am not a fan of sushi so I cannot tell you how that is here. However, I did have the sesame chicken and veggie fried rice (no egg) and I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The sesame chicken came with some broccoli in it and tasted a whole lot better than what I have had in California (except one place). The chicken was breaded but not so heavy that it was the only thing you taste. The sauce was tangy but not too sour or runny--enough to stay on your chicken but enough to also get on rice if you want. The fried rice was really good; not a lot of excess soy sauce is in it which is great. There were not very many vegetables in it which is fine, although I anticipated more than just a couple of peas, carrots, and onions. The taste of both dishes made up for the lack of veggies though and the speedy and friendly service made this a great place. If you like sushi and hibachi style meals--this place has that too! I am not sure on how quick they are at seating for dinner but I can imagine this place gets busy since it is the only place like this in town. It definitely is not the cheapest place in the area but it is worth it occasionally if you are really craving Japanese sushi or hibachi style food. I'll be coming back again I am sure! read more

Ordered sushi from there and the eel did not have the skin removed. The tuna was old and still had blood line in it. The squid salad was a few pieces of squid thrown in lettuce. That was the 1st time in eating it in 6 states and 4 countries that it was served this way. Apparently my new favorite hobby is to try sushi in small towns nowhere near the sea. Sakura had good yelp reviews, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Very easily found after arriving in Altus via Highway 62, Sakura is located on Broadway. While the outside appearance was less that desired, with their blinds in disarray, completely drawn and uninviting, the "Open" sign was lit and I ventured in after seeing a few other cars in the parking lot. Shortly after my arrival, several more parties came in and were sat quickly at the tables within. The service was better than the reviews stated. The sushi was as good as they had described. The miso soup was a little different than that of other restaurants, but not bad. just different. There was a table of men from the local Air Force base and they also seemed to enjoy their meal. read more

It was my sisters birthday Thursday, mine yesterday, and today was my moms. They gave us all birthday crowns and they also treated each of us to fried ice cream, which was amazing. My husband has been to Altus several times over the past 15 years for training and we always know our restaurant options will be very limited. And most of the food you'll get in Altus is just ok at best. But we decided to give Sakura a try since we weren't in the mood for the usual Altus fare. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The Spicy Cowboy roll was delicious and the Oklahoma roll was good. We also ordered the yaki udon noodles, which were tasty. So it was a nice solid dinner overall. Our service was good. She was attentive and pleasant. Decor was typical small town restaurant, nothing fancy or great. But fine and clean. And really we were here for the food which did not disappoint. The restaurant also had a steady stream of patrons for a Thursday night. Food - Good at Sushi. Average otherwise. The most important part. The sushi is definitely their specialty. I'd say it's the spot for sushi in Altus. I've had their noodles and they were alright, though nothing spectacular. They do what they do pretty well however, so that sets them off with a pretty good score. Service - It's good, but I've heard rumors. The service is great from what I've personally seen. They do like to sit you along with everyone else in the restaurant which is slightly annoying since there are other open seats but that's a nitpick. What takes this down to a 4 star however is what I've heard from friends who understand their language. I've been told that they talk poorly of customers in ear shot of them but in their language, essentially talking shit. I of course don't understand their language but it was from a trusted friend so I'll treat it like a rumor. They otherwise treat you nice and wait on you as expected of waiters. Establishment - Mostly Clean It's a bit bare on the outside but that's a non issue for me. The inside is nice and kind of cozy. Bathroom was slightly dirty but that's honestly expected for the scale of this restaurant. It wasn't downright filthy so it isn't that big of a deal. Eating area is pretty clean from my experience. Pricing Price matches the food. No complaint or compliment here. Overall - Average An okay experience. They are good at what they advertise. I have been a fan of this restuarant for a while UNTIL I ordered thru the BeyondMenu app. I ordered the Yaki Soba and the gyoza It was a Saturday. I ordered online 1 and a half hours before my order should of been ready. My order was to be picked up at 6:15. We got there at 6 pm. All was well with checkout. We drove home (less then a 6 minute drive) once home I realized gyoza were ice cold. I had to put them in the micro to get any kind of heat; but ended up giving to my dogs and the $11 yaki soba was literally aweful. I took it out of the little tin container and measured it. It was 2 and 1/3 cups TOTAL (including veggies and chicken). This is so dissapointing! I am so disgusted by the price compared to what I received. $11 for yaki soba/$4 for gyoza. I went here with my sister after moving from Washington state. Bit apprehensive about sushi nowhere near the water, but figured I would try it. The atmosphere was nice, but the music was really loud and annoying. It was like pop electronica Japanese music, and loud. Also, it was pretty cold inside. I didn't have a jacket or anything (being 80 degrees outside), and froze the entire time I was there. The miso soup was pretty good, and warm (for my frostbitten fingers haha). I ordered the Cali roll, and it wasn't bad except the avocado was too ripe. When avocado gets too ripe it starts to get bitter, so it overpowered the other flavors. Soy sauce and spicy mayo to the rescue. I may try this place again to see if it was just an off day situation. We will see. read more

Update** So I've decided that Sakura is not a bad place to eat unless you want any sort of raw fish item. The hot foods are good. I gave their rolls another chance yesterday and was disappointed again. First of all they taste fishy, Sushi should not taste fishy. Second of all the rolls are very small and half of the inside is filled with some sort of crunchy filler material so you really only get a very small amount of the fish. Maybe it's the quality of fish they have available to them. This town is very out of the way. The sashimi suffers from the same slightly turned fishy taste that make the rolls nothing to enjoy. Bottom line is if you want hibachi, noodles, soup or any hot dish don't hesitate to come here. If you want good sushi head to Samurai in Lawton or my favorite, Gogo Sushi Express in Moore. read more
