Went there on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't busy. Just one other table besides our's. Waitress was polite but forgot about or sushi and egg rolls until we were already into our meal. Their clear soup was ok it's about the same as any hibachi restaurant. The salad was ok. My wife and kids ordered the chicken hibachi and I ordered the steak hibachi. As soon as my wife took a bite of the chicken she knew it wasn't chicken. She didn't say anything to the kids. One of the kids said that they thought the chicken tasted "weird". We all lost our appetite and just ate the rice and vegetables (which were a very small portion). We ate and paid out $175 bill. I have honestly never felt as I had been ripped off. This little restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but once inside you feel warm and welcomed. If there was an option for zero stars I would pick it. No flavor in the udon, had to add half the soy sauce flask in it. Soy sauce is watered down, probably to save money. Found a fly in my udon after and the owner or the cooks didn't seem surprised. The "crunchy" roll was anything but just a soggy roll. And nothing tasted like it should, even the fried cheesecake. And that's without mentioning anything about the service or the overall look of this place and the bathroom. The service is non-existent, had to ask for refills on drinks or for really anything. The bathroom looks like an abandoned bathroom at a random gas station. And the entire restaurant has an extremely depressing interior that looks like it peaked in the 70s and deteriorated immediately after that. Avoid this place. I'm typing this as I'm sitting on the toilet after vomiting with a raging headache. I've eaten a lot of street foods across the globe, some are questionably fresh and my stomach had handled them pretty well. Not this. Here are some bullet points: Server was nice but damn they took forever. We were 1 minute away from walking out and go to a different place, although one table did. Before we sat down, server asked what we wanted to drink. They only have 1 kind of sake off the whole menu, and it tastes like carbonated dish soap. You are not supposed to carbonate sake. It's like carbonating your red wine. Crab Rangoon had more oil in the wonton shells than actual fillings. My 2 rolls of sushi came out about 10 minutes before my wife's food. My wife ordered chicken habachi, there was no salad or soup, no sauce, no shrimp. OH, their habachi grill is closed. Sushi tasted like rubber and chicken was tender but very salty.. I suspect they soak the chicken in salt water for tenderness and freshness preservation. 2 apps, 2 rolls, a sake, and a dinner entree was 75 bucks. Way over priced for quality and service. (My wife adds, "especially when we didn't get all the food we were supposed to get") Immediately after, I felt nausea, headache, and had to poop. Almost didn't make it to the toilet. I was so excited to hear that there was a Samurai here in Lawton. We used to drive to Wichita Falls to eat at that one when I lived here in the 80's. Unfortunately the food and atmosphere have gone down hill and it seems the workers don't even care. I came here specifically seeking hibachi, as opposed to sushi. Although I DO occasionally enjoy really good sushi. I wanted to see "the best Lawton had to offer". And....I should have expected about this much. Let me start out by saying: this place wasn't bad. Actually, it was a little better than I expected it to be. You see...I have to remember where I am (only under temporary circumstances). For those of you that don't know, it's very difficult to get really good seafood in Lawton...unless you cook it yourself. But...I digress. I've eaten a lot of hibachi in my time. So I pretty much know what I'm supposed to get here. That said, let's hit the key points here.. Service: prompt from the moment I walk in. I'm seated quickly, greeted immediately, drink order is taken and delivered all within five minutes. One mild problem though...the waitress barely speaks or understands English. And even though this is a Japanese restaurant, it IS in Lawton, Oklahoma of all places. Which means...more than decent English syntax is basically an expectation, if not a requirement. But whatever. We break through the language barrier and after almost 2 minutes of me explaining to the non-English speaking waitress that I wanted Merlot, she understands (after I point to the drink on the menu) and gets it to me in record time. No worries. The food: this is where things get interesting. I ordered hibachi shrimp and lobster. Initially, I noticed their seafood is glossed over one final time with soy sauce. Not necessarily a bad thing except...it comes across as over compensation to me. At the very best hibachi place I've ever eaten at, they seasoned their seafood with soy sauce, butter, and a spritz of lemon. Not to mention the fact that most other hibachi restaurants offer white sauce. Either I was supposed to ask for the stuff after the fact or they straight up didn't have any. Either case is an anomaly in Japanese cuisine for me. Aforementioned aside, the shrimp and lobster themselves were cooked just fine. I guess it's the precise seasoning I have slight issues with. There was a hint of a sweet aftertaste to the soy sauce used here. The fried rice needed a lot of love, too. I'd have normally used a mix of salt, pepper and white sauce to improve on the quality. But since the latter was not ostensibly available, I opted for the soy sauce readily available on the table. To their credit, they DO put egg and veggies in their fried rice. So...kudos for that! The "clear" onion soup was OK. Nothing to write home about though. Again, I've tasted better at other hibachi restaurants. They brought the bill to me rather quickly...which I found odd. How did they know I didn't want a second drink? Oh well...cheaper bill for me, I guess. Besides, the scenery didn't do much for me. It was far less authentically Asian than one would expect. At this point, I just wanted to pay my bill and depart promptly. Overall, not a bad experience. Just far from the best. So I guess...the search for the near-perfect hibachi restaurant continues. To be fair though, if you don't feel like driving all the way to Oklahoma City for search of greener pastures, I suppose this place will do. read more

My go-to for sushi in Lawton. The sushi is fresh and on point consistent every order. I enjoy the clear mushroom soup over the miso (personal preference the miso is good but try the clear soup!) The spicy tuna is unlike others that are mostly mixed with spicy mayo. The raw chunk texture with spice compliments the tuna and highlights it instead of being masked in mayo. I enjoy their online ordering process and confirmations. Added note: they were very proactive during CoVid and still have not reopened dining room. With that being said they were early in the precautions and have remained open for takeout and Postmates the entire duration to present day. read more

This is my go-to for lunch. The staff remember me and are always very polite. The sushi is pretty good and the rolls do not fall apart. I've only had 1 bad experience in the dozens of times I've been here, and that was mostly due to the place being packed and me being in a hurry. Other than that, this place is solid. This is a landlocked state, so expecting the same quality here as in California is asking way too much. However, for the place and availability, this restaurant can't be beat. You did not have a strategy on on how better handle the orders ur receiving nor did u have a better execution, we had to wait 2 FUCKING HOURS AFTER J PLACED MY ORDER. HORRIBLE BUSINESS AND OWNERSHIP. They bring out the food which was COLD steak wasn't even cooked right. They brought cream sauce out which was CAKE BATTER. I only ate 2 bites of my food and I couldn't eat anymore. I asked if they could take it off or discount and the lady said no they did nothing wrong. I've worked for customer service for years and usually we take off or discount a good amount. They refused and still made us pay for it all. The staff here at Samurai are both courteous and very professional! I had ordered the Hibachi Chicken dinner with fried rice and I was absolutely pleased with both the presentation and quality of my meal. The parking lot is full, every table has a customer, the flames reach the ceiling, and the fish is as fresh as it can be. Add a smiling waitstaff, and you have a winning combination! We saved this restaurant for a special moment. Not a special occasion, because the prices are reasonable enough to make this a frequent visit. We waited until we could no longer picture the menu at our favorite fast sushi bar in Hawaii. Once our sushi snobbery could be kept at bay, we were off to explore the offerings here in Oklahoma. Lucky us! Samurai has some of its fish (most importantly the tuna!) flown in from Hawaii a few times per week. The busier they are, the fresher the fish, and as I mentioned, the parking lot and tables are full. I've visited twice and was happy with the quality of the fish on both visits. I have tried a few of the rolls, and found them fresh and beautifully presented. Tuna will always be my greatest love, followed by salmon, and both made me happy. My only sad moments with the food are both with side selections. The green salad was drowning in a ginger/mayo dressing, and the miso soup had very little flavor. When they are brought to your table, either ignore them completely or eat them quick to get them out of the way and away from your tastebuds. Stick with the fish and you will be very happy. The restaurant is split into halves, with the grills on the left and tables on the right. I've not been to the grilled side of the dining room, but could hear the standard chatter coming from the grill chefs. I find that I enjoy the grill best with a group, so will wait. I have ordered the BBQ squid and was pleased. I look forward to returning soon! read more

Samurai is a wonderful find in Oklahoma. I LOVE sushi! So, when I moved from Hawai'i to Oklahoma, the Pacific Ocean to a landlocked state, I had absolutely zero hope for coming across good sushi. What a pleasure it was to come across Samurai. They fly in their fish from Hawai'i. FRESH!!! Their staff is incredibly friendly. The Habachi Chefs put on a show that has everyone cheering. Oh, and then there is the taste. The TASTE!!! The sashimi is delightful. Fish prepared just right to dance with your taste buds. The sushi is wonderfully balanced. And the grill will please with all. I'm from Los Angeles where amazing food is everywhere, so I'm a harsher critic. 3 stars for me, but compared to places in Lawton it's a 4 star. We didn't think there was sushi in Lawton so when we found this place rated 4 stars on yelp we had to try it. Won't blow your mind but at least there's a place here to satisfy your sushi craving. DRINK Mango drink (3 stars): Didn't taste like there was much alcohol in it but it was good. ROLL Caterpillar roll (3.5 stars): Crunchy on the inside and had flavor. I'd recommend this. Out of control roll *off menu (2.5 stars): Nice chucks of fish inside but roll didn't have much flavor. Wouldn't recommend it. DESSERT Vanilla tempura ice cream (2 stars): So this had the most ridiculously minuscule amount of vanilla ice cream in it. I couldn't believe it. Basically a ball of tempura with 4 bites if ice cream in the middle. Our friends got the green tea one and it was huge compared to ours and you could definitely see their green tea ice cream. We told the waitress and the owner or manager came over to see what we were complaining about. They said the vanilla one is a lot smaller...so why are they the same price? Green tea tempura ice cream (2 stars): Way more ice cream than the vanilla one. Didn't have much of a green tea flavor but it was really green! We moved here on Saturday, 25 Jan and I've already been here four times b/c it reminds me of sushi at 333Pacific in Oceanside CA. If you haven't eaten here - come on by and enjoy the Hibachi experience or relax at a booth while eating sushi. Oh the green tea is so good and taste authentic.
