ARROGANT, RUDE MANAGEMENT, would not even listen to me to correct an omission of "egg rolls" that I ordered. I ordered "Vegetable Fried Rice and Egg Rolls". He said "What kind soup? Egg roll come wit soup." When I asked him what kinds they have, I could not understand him. After repeating himself, I still could not understand him. He pointed to a picture low on the desk area that listed 3 soups. I said "egg drop". 15 minutes later, I received a stapled shut bag, paid, and went home. I opened the bag at home. It had 3 items, but 1 was CORN CHIPS. NOT THE EGG ROLL THAT I ORDERED. When I returned with the corn chips and said that I did not get my egg roll, the same man said "No egg roll.", and pointed to the receipt which did NOT include the egg roll that I ordered first! When I told him that I ordered the egg roll and he did not fill the order, he pointed at the receipt, said " NO-EGG-ROLL! We spent the day traveling to Duncan. We did Chinese takeout from here. I couldn't order sushi in the middle of Oklahoma. The food was ok. I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan, but it lacked flavor. They did not have wonton soup, so I got an egg drop, and I didn't like it. The egg roll was okay, but I had better. My husband got Szechuan Beef and said it had no spice, but it was okay. My father got the Pepper Steak and had no complaints, except for the lack of wonton soup. It was fast, and my husband picked it up. He said the place was fine inside. Ordered the Lunch Bento! Great value for the amount of food you get! The fried gyoza and sushi rolls were tasty. I ordered Mongolian beef. Seemed like an exhorbant amount of onions compared to the amount of beef. The flavor was good, just would have liked less onion. I didn't care for the garlic dressing on the salad. As long as you understand it's a sushi place in a small town I'm sure you will get what you pay for. The people are kind and the environment is decent. The service is nice and semi quick. Let's see how to start this, we've lived here for about three years, and this WAS the place that we went until recently. The staff is really nice except for the female owner. She must just be absolutely miserable. I do not care for their Chinese food. But I lovED their sushi, egg rolls, soup and their little salads. They just recently got back from their vacation overseas. We went back August 2. I ordered the same thing I ordered every single time and I got the worst food poisoning I have ever experienced in my life. We suspect it was from the cream cheese, cause I substitute cream cheese instead of avocado. I mean, one really bad food poisoning will definitely change your mind about where you eat and how you let people prepare your food. I will miss this place and the waitress was phenomenal. I mean, I know I will not be back, and we did eat there for three years and never had any food issues before. But it's important to read reviews you know they're little insights. I have read many reviews that people have posted. And from what people have said, there is no point in me calling and letting them know. Their business will not fail because of this, they're not going anywhere and there's not a lot to choose from in this town. We used to go at least once a month maybe every six weeks. Underwhelming. Everything is there, all the textures, things are cooked well, good portions, but there was basically no flavor at all. Long story short, the owner wanted his employee to hang up on me because I was asking if anything on their menu could accommodate my gluten allergy. She was more than willing to help out but he was in the background saying we couldn't and to hang up on me. When I caught a glimpse of the Kyoto Japanese Restaurant while driving in Duncan, I thought I saw a mirage. Sushi? In Duncan, OK? Excited at the prospect of not having to drive an hour to Oklahoma City just to eat sushi, I immediately went there to give it a try. And to my immediate surprise and delight, it turned out to be really good! And very cheap...for sushi, anyway. They have some good lunch specials, that come with 2-3 rolls, soup, and salad. The rolls were really tasty, and the side orders were good, too. I also sampled their Sushi Deluxe, which is a nigiri sushi plate. Considering the fact that I was in Stephens County and not the Ginza district of Tokyo, I was very pleased with the sushi portions. They also have curry and a number of cooked dishes on the menu for those of you out there who are still sushi-phobic (c'mon, my fellow Oklahomans -- live a little!). I was kind of disappointed that they don't have Japanese curry or even tamago (simple egg nigiri), but you know what, beggars can't be choosers. In the culinary wasteland of Stephens County/Grady County, there are no Japanese restaurants, so I'll take what I can get. Of course, compared to Japanese restaurants in a major city, it would not rank as high, so please keep that in mind. Still, I like it! I've eaten Kyoto's food several times, and I have to say the restaurant is a nice change of pace from the plethora of greasy fast food joints and all-you-can-eat buffets that populate the area. In a city whose population adds soy sauce and salt to menu items before ever taking a bite and rejects self-serve yogurt places for not being all-you-can-eat venues, an otherwise modest restaurant like Kyoto becomes a bold, ambitious addition to Duncan's cultural landscape. Less a Japanese restaurant and more a Chinese restaurant with an extensive line of sushi rolls, Kyoto does way more right than a small town, Asian mix-and-match place has any business doing. My partner and I split the veggie tempura, which comes with a bowl of fried rice, and three rolls. Those four dishes + 2 sodas only came out to about $34 -- a steal in the sushi world. The Clearview roll, shrimp tempura, crawfish, and cream cheese roll deep fried and covered in a spicy mayo sauce was my favorite, but everything tasted pretty good. Suspiciously good for the region, honestly. As others have said, the restaurant's interior leaves much to be desired, but it's not so sketchy that eating in is out of the question. It looks more or less like a fast-food restaurant, and so if ambience is less important than simply getting a good meal, then the decor shouldn't be too much of an issue. The only real caveat I have about Kyoto is that sushi veterans looking for nigiri will find little to nothing for them. The sushi menu almost exclusively consists of makizushi, save for a $19.99 chirashi bowl, and while it's an appropriate menu for the majority of Duncan diners, sushi purists will likely be disapppointed. However, as an attempt to bring good sushi to a town lacking in culturally diverse options, Kyoto is a food oasis. read more

This place has a little bit for everyone even if you don't like sushi. They have great General Tso's chicken and rice! I would previously have given them 5 *s hands down, but lately there have been a few annoying things about their restaurant. 1. They've raised their prices a little (hey it happens!). 2. They've decreased their portion sizes on their sushi rolls (some are almost 1/2 the size they used to be if their prices hadn't raised so much I wouldn't have had such an issue) and even their soups they don't fill the bowl entirely up. 3. The person who rolls their sushi SUCKS! I am a firm believer that if you eat sushi it should be with chopsticks. Their rolls fall apart so badly now that you almost have to eat them with a spoon. Sushi lovers know it's about presentation, taste, and ease of eating when you dig into sushi. With that being said... their food still tastes amazing, they haven't slacked on that. Their quality of produce isn't always the best though. The avacado now is sometimes a little too mushy and mango just isn't slected as well either. I'm not sure if this is them again cutting corners, or because it's Duncan and maybe they don't have the selection that they used to. If they cut anymore corners, we definitely will stop going, but for now it's still worth the money. They have budget friendly options like their lunch specials, but if you get some of their more expensive rolls and sides don't be shocked if you walk out spending $50+ for 2 people. If you get their smaller rolls and soup with no appetizers you can eat there for about $20-$25 for 2. They DO have vegetarian options and contrary to popular belief not everything is raw! I would highly recommend the "Hawaiian roll" if you're not on a strict budget. The hot and sour soup is also the best in town! Budget friendly: California, Oklahoma, Vegetable, and asparagus. The last two are my faves! There are several more to choose from. They even mark which are raw and which aren't. Menu is easy to read. Don't recommend: the salad! It's a ton of dressing over iceberg lettuce. Currently they'll substitute a soup for the salad which I do when getting something that comes with salad. read more

I visit the Duncan, Marlowe, and Rush Springs area every year to visit my boyfriend's family and this past summer was the first time we stumbled upon this place. Kyoto is located on Highway 81 in the same shopping mall as Hastings and Johnny's. They have a great deal on lunch specials and they have bubble tea! All of the sushi rolls are delicious and their meals come with soup and salad. For anyone who wants a change from the usual Sonic, Golden Corral, and Chinese Buffet, this is the place to go. I wasn't quite as over-the-top about Kyoto as others who graded it 5-stars. It WAS a decent choice given what we found available in Duncan, but compared with good sushi, this was just alright. We went for dinner one evening. Presentation was very nice, and the fish was fine, but the nori wrapping the rolls seemed a bit tougher than I've had and the rolls in general seemed dry, a bit bland. Can't quite put my finger on what it was, maybe it was the rice? Didn't try any tempura, sashimi - still lots on the menu I can't comment on. Miso soup was decent. The edamame wasn't done with sesame oil as I've had elsewhere. What I did like is that the edamame had the softer outside that you can actually slid off between your teeth (if you want to.) Some edamame have such a tough outer covering it doesn't come off. The atmosphere was low-lighting, but not romantic. There were a couple of TV's on tuned to different stations and there were no frills. I'm glad others found this to be a great place to eat. read more
