Absolutely love Sakana Hoise! There are two locations in Barrie. We have ordered their Fall & Summer Bento boxes and are astonished by the freshness & quality of their food! It's eat first talk later. The salmon sashimi pieces were thick & juicy and melt in your mouth. The miso soup was rich and warm and so filling. The sesame salad dressing was so yummy that I drank the rest up when my salad was done. Salmon Teriyaki was perfectly grilled with light coat of teriyaki & the shrimp & veggie tempura were delicious with tempura sauce. So much food that I have 2 meals in one! $18.99 for Fall Bento! What a deal for this excellent quality of food. They have AYCE as well for $38.99 but we were on our way home so we didn't have much to experience this. I have been to quite a few sushi spots but Sakana House is the place I always go back to. The all you can eat menu offers a huge variety from classic rolls to creative specialty options and every piece came out fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The sashimi was melt in your mouth quality and the tempura was perfectly crispy. The service is always good and never disappoints. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick even during the busy dinner rush. The restaurant itself has a cozy modern atmosphere that makes it great for date nights, family dinners, or hanging out with friends. The only thing I'd like to mention as a drawback is that sometimes the servers have hard time understanding you when you ask them for certain things. Which is honestly not the end of the world. There was a time where I asked for water. And I got a hot green tea. Then I got the water but didn't take the tea back. Then when I mentioned the tea to the server she didn't take back and came back with more water. Based on the good reviews, I stopped in to Sakana House for a late lunch. Restaurant was fairly busy but orders came out promptly and were served by friendly staff. As I prefer sashimi to nigirizushi or sushi maki (I don't like to eat so much rice) I opted to order from the dinner AYCE menu. Most all was quite good excepting the beef rib which I found a bit bland. The tempura shrimp and calamari were on point, they know how to make it here. No Melona Bars for desert but the mango pudding was surprisingly good with chunks of real mango. I also note, Sakana House serves Yamasa low salt soy sauce as an accompaniment for your sushi which I prefer over other brands. All in all was pretty good for AYCE sushi. I tried a few bites from various rolls but this one here was melt in your mouth heaven. I'm pretty sure I ordered seconds and thirds. I kind of lost track.... Might have been more It's deep fried spicy Salmon, cream cheese and avocado topped with sriracha mayo. There might have been a little eel sauce / sweet sauce on there too . Taste was not bad. Teriyakis are fresh But end of the day waiter bring bills with %15 tip included which doesn't make sense. He forced the people tap the payment. If you want to give more tip you can't if you upset and doesn't wanna give tip you can't either. read more

Best sushi place in Barrie but if you go there with people that can eat a lot, they won't bring you everything on your order in hopes that you forget about it and they usually bring out the cheap stuff first to fill you up but other then that food is delicious. I've learned to have no shame in reminding them about what they missed on our orders.....they know what there doing haha. read more

This has been one of my favorite Barrie restaurants since they opened, but tonight's experience was horrible. I understand that prices have gone up, so I wasn't too surprised by the $34 dinner charge. What did surprise and disappoint me was the poor service and dramatic drop in food quality. Food quality in the past has been very good, but tonight the dishes were poorly prepared and in several instances did not match the description/quantities listed in the menu. The dim sum was rubbery and tasteless... As if it was frozen and overcooked so it just tasted wrong. This was also the case with many other dishes. Simply not acceptable, especially at premium prices. The service was no better. It was as if all the staff was pissed off and taking it out on the customers. Dishes were "dropped" onto my table with no care, often placed outside my reach at the far end of the table, for no reason other than to be difficult. Frankly I felt very unwanted and couldn't wait to get out of there. Too bad. Used to be a great place to dine. read more

My wife and I went on a Saturday evening. No wait to be seated. The food was very fresh and quick to arrive. We loved the way you order. The menu with a description and a picture are on an iPad that's left at the table. From there you pick what you want to order and it gets delivered to your table. There's no limit to what you want (assuming your get the all-you-can-eat option). Great food and atmosphere. Only 4-stars because they don't offer a fountain drink option (refills) which is weird because they offer all you can eat but not all you can drink. read more

I found a bone in my salmon sushi roll which I was going to let slide until we received extremely rude service from the manager. We were told we couldn't pay with a cash discount when we frequent this place often, and the other location, and get a cash discount when we ask for the bill. Finding bones and rude service/not honouring a cash discount to select guests is a no go for me and extremely unacceptable. I recommend the big bay point location. read more

I love sushi, and if you do too, you should try this place out! Not only do they have an extensive sushi menu with something for everyone - but they also have such an extensive menu of Thai & Chinese dishes too. We've often brought large groups who didn't particularly love sushi always fun plenty of delicious options. Although this is an all you can eat restaurant, the food tastes amazingly good. Coming from Toronto, I've eaten at many great sushi places & this one fairs extremely well for the best of the best. I've eaten at both locations & both are wonderful. Their newest location on Cundles has very large tables which are great to accommodate the slew of delicious dishes they'll bring to your table. Service is extremely fast - but during busy times, there is a wait to get seated. We've found them very accommodating to make a reservation should you have a large party. Staff is always friendly & welcoming. A must try for any sushi lover! read more
