Chicken Shawarma Rice Bowl Gluten Free

My team and I love ordering from SAJJ for team lunch! Always a good choice for a delicious lunch. My goto order is the chicken shawarma rice bowl and it really good and will fill you up.

My workplace is pretty close to Sajj, so my coworkers often come here during their lunch break. Mediterranean food isn't my favorite cuisine, but I decided to tag along one day and I was pleasantly surprised. My coworkers describe this place as a "Mediterranean Chipotle" because it's very customizable and you go down the line, adding in whatever toppings and sauces you desire. For my base I chose half rice and half salad, which was a perfect combination. The only vegetarian protein was falafel, so I went with that. They gave me 4 decently sized balls of falafel that were crunchy on the outside, soft inside, and very flavorful. I got pretty much all of the vegetarian toppings: eggplant, cauliflower, cucumber tomato, beets, pickles, etc. I wasn't sure which sauces to get so I just asked for a little bit of everything: Tzatziki sauce, garlic sauce, tahini, hummus. My favorite toppings were the eggplant ragout and cauliflower. They were so well seasoned and flavorful. Every order comes with a free cup of lentil soup. I personally was not a fan of the lentil soup; it was way too salty for my taste buds. I used the Yelp check-in offer to get some free pita chips, and I really enjoyed those. They were super crunchy and flavorful on their own, but the cashier also gave me a container of hummus to dip them in, which was a nice touch. Service was friendly. The staff knew it was my first time here so they explained what each item was, which I really appreciated. My bowl was $9 + tax. Portion size could have been a bit bigger for the price. I could tell some of my coworkers were still hungry after polishing off their food. Nevertheless I really enjoyed the food here and plan to come back often with my coworkers.

Couldn't believe how much I liked this place. I'll say what everyone else has said. It's Middle Eastern Chipotle. Same restaurant feel, same vibe, same setup, same assembly line, same price point. Had a delicious salad with all kinds of chicken and spices and lentils all over it, for about $12. This place was a really pleasant surprise, and now I wish there was one in my neighborhood.

Chicken bowl with hummus, veggies, yogurt sauce....

Sajj is a Mediterranean restaurant that bit Chipotle's style by offering their food in a similar process while designing the menu and layout to give people the Chipotle experience. The food is very tasty, but don't expect there to be spits with meat being carved in front of you. The food tastes authentic, but similar to Chipotle, the proteins (chicken, beef, pork) are in a tray. This means the meat can be a little dry. The few times I've been here, the meat was fine (I have only been there for lunch). Overall, the food is great! The toppings are hearty and savory. Baba ganoush, hummus, feta cheese, tzatziki, etc. If you get all toppings, you'll have a heavy bowl on your hands. This place is a copy cat Chipotle, but its good at that it does. The tamarind drink is wonderful, best I've ever had outside of Mexico.

Awful food, expensive, tiny servings, baklava not homemade, yuck. The only flavor is salt.

Came here to try Uyghur food out of curiosity…read more Food: The Uyghur pilaf was pretty good and different from typical Chinese food. The homemade naan had a very solid texture. Service: The restaurant is owned and operated by a pair of sisters, who were friendly. I can hear them speaking to each other in Uyghur and the kitchen staff in Chinese. Ambiance: The restaurant is located at the same place from the previous Juban restaurant. The main dining room is a big square room, with two long tables in the middle with dishware and customer tables at the two sides, each can sit around 6 people. The walls were decorated with Uyghur portraits and fabrics.

That's how my partner and I ended up at our first-ever Uyghur restaurant -- hungry, curious, and ready to eat something we'd never tried before. Atmosphere: Lively, to put it kindly. Several families with young kids filled the open dining room, and the sound carried everywhere. Come expecting energy, not quiet conversation. Service: One server running the whole floor -- so yes, patience is part of the experience. We didn't mind once the food arrived. The Food: Lamb Feet (Appetizer) -- A first for both of us. Surprisingly flavorful, and yes, you will need both hands. The restaurant thoughtfully provides plastic gloves, which you'll want. Gosh Naan (Appetizer) -- Solid, but the most forgettable dish of the meal. A fine warm-up act. Kawap Noodles (Main) -- The star of the savory lineup. Hand-pulled, chewy, and deeply flavorful. The heat isn't a punch -- it's a slow, creeping numbness on the tongue. In the best way. Uyghur Milk Tea -- Yelp reviews warned us it would be "salty." Ours wasn't, but it was silky and smooth. My partner wanted it stronger; I thought it was perfect alongside the bold noodles -- a quiet counterbalance to all that spice. Lamb Skewer Kabob -- Our unanimous favorite. Tender, juicy, and gone within minutes. Do not skip this. If you're Uyghur cuisine-curious, this is a great place to start. Come hungry, come open-minded -- and order the kabob.

Though it was Saturday noon, we found free covered parking at Menlo Center Plaza off Santa Cruz Avenue. True to online postings, this restaurant had vibrant & faux flowery decor. Our large group of 8 was seated in the main dining hall with another large group. The menus of specials and cocktails with colorful F&D photos reminded me of touristy European restaurants. I had the hot Japanese sencha while my wife got the Thai Iced tea served with a crushed iced ball on top. Roti Mataba, Crispy Egg Rolls, Farmhouse Wings and Crispy Calamari were our starters for this gang of eclectic diners. I shared with my wife the Panang Neua (braised beef in curry sauce) and Pad See You which came gorgeously plated with generous servings. We were able to sample the Crab Fried Rice and Tom Kha from our dinnermates. Ruk Na (love you) Platter was the underwhelming dessert combo of Thai Vacation, Sticky Rice (no mango), Chocolate Cake with fresh fruits and a macaron. To be described as IG worthy in the menu wasn't accurate IMO. It must've been an off-day in the kitchen when they were prepping this "leave the choice up to us" plate of sweets. Food was way flavorful than regular Thai restaurants we've been to. The common complaint is the very pricy food. The staff was nice though. They even acknowledged our request for photos. Even with the setbacks, this was a nice lunch with this group.

We arrived right when hookah service started at 5 pm, which is when you can place hookah orders every day. The Dutch crunch roll was absolutely amazing. I am already craving it again and would recommend getting any sandwich on that bread. It is a must try and easily a ten out of ten. The location is in downtown Redwood City with plenty of parking available all around. I can tell this place gets very busy during peak hours and on weekends. By the time we left, it was already packed, even on a Monday night.
