Mount Eden is only open weekdays while Domaine Eden is only open weekends. They serve both wineries' wines for tasting. They have 5 tasting flights varying from $30, $40, $45, $60, and $65. 3 wines per flight and they pour a good portion. We got to try 3 different flights to share. Mount Eden Estate , Chardonnay, and Cabernet flight. All the wines were pretty good. Fruit forward and bold. Our favorites were the first Chardonnay , Pinot noir Tanaka project , and Cab from Mount Eden library. I believe it was 3 bottles purchase to waive a tasting fee. Pricey wines. More knowledge was shared about the bottles than the actual wines themselves, but we did have a menu we could follow along with. We tasted 2 whites, a rosé, and one red while we were there. I noticed all the syrah grapes while walking into the property, so I did ask for a taste of that since they had it open and was given a small splash. I enjoyed most of the wines we had, but thought they were a little pricey for whites/rosé. They're reservation only and you do have to prepay when making the reservation. Though tastings are $25, with tax and the already included tip, our tasting for 3 came out to $100. It seemed like there was a $5/pp included gratuity, which I thought was odd having to pay for in advance. One tasting is waived with a 3 bottle purchase. We only tried the reds, FYI, but they had a nice selection of whites too. 2. If you buy 2 bottles you get 1 free tasting, 3 bottles, they comp two tastings. 3. Be sure to visit the little house with a bunch of memorabilia. The history of the farm is super cool. They have free recipe cards too! 4. Horses! They currently board a LOT of horses, and have clear signage posted to keep your distance as to not spook them. 5. Bring walking shoes! There are trails you can explore around the winery and there's lots of dusty areas, so keep the dress shoes at home (or bring a change of footwear). Caveat anyone with motion sickness in the car, as the drive there is WINDY, but beautiful. I can't wait to return and explore the grounds more!

Also the drive and location is beautiful scenery. However after Covid, things have changed a lot. In the past you would find an available table, bring your picnic lunch (in the patio area with the shaded overhang), go inside the tasting room, sample some wines and buy a bottle. Great experience then. Also well versed in wine employees helping you. This is not the case at all now! Since Covid, you can no longer bring in your own food and they would not let us even go into the tasting room! You are forced to sit at a table and have "table service." I can't even think of it as table service because over this past weekend we had horrible service both days we went. We like to see our favorite local bands play at this beautiful winery. On Saturday when we went, we were immediately hounded by our server about what we wanted to order. We hadn't even had time to look at the menu. They bring only one printed menu and tell us to scan their QR code. That's fine, but some of the people in our group are old school and prefer a printed menu. I am shocked how much $$ the wine is here. It used to be reasonable but it is not anymore. The cheapest bottle is a bottle of Rose for $40. It was just meh. All the other wine choices are $46+ per bottle. And if I'm going to be buying some wine and enjoying drinking it with friends and enjoy live music it would be nice if I could bring in my own snacks/picnic so that I don't have to spend more. Our table of 5 spent well over $300 during the 3 hours we were there. On Sunday, we had even worse service. As soon as we walked in and sat down they saw I had a soft ice cooler. I was immediately told that we can't bring in our own food. I explained to the server and said I brought in a cooler because you do not have ice here, and the leftover food I purchased the day before (cheese, salami) was getting very hot during that service while enjoying music. So I wanted to be more prepared to put the food in a cooler as needed. Also, some of us like "ice" water and on a hot day, the water they bring out is not cool. The way I was first approached was very rude. Our main server that helped our group was not very nice at all and rude. She kept coming over to us when we first got there to see if we were ready to order. None of us had time to even look at the menu. She also did not know anything about wine. That was obvious. When one of us in the party asked about the different chardonnay choices which one is more oaky or buttery, she did not know and she did not even try and get more information for us. Also it was a very hot day in the high 90's and most of us wanted lighter white wines rather than red. The winery needs to get rid of their "table service", the servers are inexperienced with wines, rude, pushy to put in an order and impatient. They need to bring back how they used to have a nice experience here before Covid. When I told my rude server I wanted to get my bill and check out, she said "we have bad wifi over here at this table so you need to come up to our monitors for that..." then she walked away. Well that was BS cuz prior to that we were ordering our options from their QR code and they had good wifi for that. I guess she didn't like that I never came to their monitors where you "check in" and she came back to me and suddenly she was able to help me at my table to check out. So sad how downhill this place has gone. I hope the owner will think about how the after Covid changes are and that the staff is rude and not experienced with wine.

When we arrived, we decided to give Ancora Vino a try. I've been here once before in the deep days of covid, so I wanted to see how they had fared. It seems to have flourished! We sat at the bar and had two glasses of wine. The server was knowledgeable and offered great insights into everything about the restaurant. They had great looking food, and pizzas. Their charcuterie boards looked enormous! They seem to be open most days for lunch and dinner. I definitely will return to eat some of that great looking food on another day. By the end of the planning process, I had unofficially promoted her to honorary bridesmaid status. When we arrived, Valeria and Kayla were fantastic. They immediately jumped into "surprise mode," graciously playing along by checking us in at the host stand and escorting us to our table without giving anything away. Their teamwork helped keep the bride-to-be completely unsuspecting until she walked into a room full of family and friends. Valeria also accommodated my request to play a millennial throwback playlist, and every hit had us singing along--it was the perfect soundtrack for the afternoon. Our server, Skylar, was equally wonderful. She made excellent wine recommendations, was attentive without ever making us feel rushed, and truly made us feel at home. Even after our reserved time had ended, she warmly invited us to stay and continue enjoying ourselves. Having been to Napa/Sonoma I'm familiar with the wine club pitch. It did come a bit early and listened to a lot of 'upsells' to others that had stopped in to get their wine club order. As someone in sales/commercial roles, I can appreciate the hustle and recognize that Diane is very good at her role. That said, we ordered a bottle to enjoy on the patio and took some with us for the wine suitcase to bring home. The stone buildings are pretty remarkable and the patio provides a lot of room to enjoy the venue.
