However as this place is so huge you'll probably still find what you are looking for. Since I've lived in Oxford I've come here about a dozen or so times. We tend to try and stick to mid evening as the crowds die down a bit and they are not quite into their horrible restocking mode. Generally you can find fresh products and a wide selection of near everything (do not come to this Tescos if you are looking for home goods/ electronics/ etc). The prices as it is Tescos are decent. The staff are generally friendly as long as you're not getting the end of shift crowd. It's got a huge range of items, although no adult clothing (other than underwear) or much in the way of electronics/media/toys, unlike even bigger stores. For groceries, though, it's got a lot to offer. Fruit and veg are of good quality and usually well-stocked. The deli and fresh fish counters offer a lot of choice, and they even have a large 'Polish food' section. They have two 'car trolleys' which amuse small (and big) kids greatly, and make the shopping trip easier with children who are too big for the trolley seats but too small to walk all the way around without whining. This particular Waitrose, situated just off Kenilworth High Street with adequate parking, stocks everything you'd need. I've popped in here for random sauces, spices among other things and they have always been in stock. The butcher's there is fantastic and ordered me in some meat that I needed for a dinner party (which went very well). Also, anything can be ordered directly to the store to collect on the day so there's no need to worry! There's a good selection for foods for those who are gluten/wheat free, though it is a very similar selection to other food stores. While I no longer live in Kenilworth, when I pass through I do try to stop by. If for nothing else than to raid the reduced section.

The cafe has been relocated to the new upper floor but is woefully short of toilets, a whole two and they're both intended for the diasbled however a wheelchair user would need to run the gauntlet of the tray carrying cafe customers and the closely placed tables in order to use them. To say the layout wasn't very well thought out is a bit of an understatement. Unfortunately the store also has a thriving home delivery service which has expanded into the carpark. Shoppers use the free parking spaces at Tesco to visit the newly built Eagles Meadow Shopping Mall which is opposite the store making parking in what was already a small carpark almost impossible on a saturday. At peak times you'll be queuing to get in and queing to get out.

The family and I were vacationing in South Kensington and this store was ideally located. It's a grocery store that has all the essentials... and more. And by "more", I mean seemingly random stuff like an aisle of non-branded shirts... and a convenience station which apparently provides shoe repair? Item selection for things (particularly vegetables and fruits) seems a little sparse. But admittedly I'm a tourist so perhaps that's expected for the area, climate, and time of year. Checkout is slightly disorganized (again, probably a "tourist ignorance" thing). Recyclable bags are available for pickup on a rail while walking through self-checkout. There's an automated gate that requires a receipt barcode to be scanned before exit is permitted. Ultimately I think this is a store that's 90% grocery store and 10% variety store. Nothing wrong with that but it was just a little surprising.

Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

ASDA is well known for being the cheapest of the main supermarkets and I must admit that I agree. I often spend less in ASDA and get so much more. ASDA now has added electronic self serve tills to my local store allowing you to scan your own shopping, great fun!! lol Asda not only sell groceries but sell electronics, cd's, books, clothes, and I could go on forever. Recently ASDA have started to put more things on offer, it had previously simply aimed at customers by being the cheapest but now have offers such as 2 for 1. Keep an eye out as you can get some brilliant bargains on roll back! Most asda stores now sell petrol too, which you can pay at the pump - great for if you have a baby with you that you don't want to leave alone. Overall I love ASDA, shame they don't do BOGOF items though!!
