Sails has the BEST SEAFOOD in Rowayton, not the other guys. My wife and I had been to Sails in previous years but when we wanted seafood in Rowayton we knew where to go, that is no longer the case. We left a restaurant down the street extremely disappointed and very hungry and decided to check out Sails. It was a tuesday night and this place was packed but were lucky enough to be seated on the patio upon walking in. We noticed that the place looks a lot different than we had both remembered but the small renovations make the place more cozy. The hostess was very polite and professional and not soon after were we greeted by our server who was very helpful with choosing the wine and suggesting appetizers. After some brief chit chat she explained that Sails was revamped about 6 months ago by a restaurant group stemming from Nantucket. The dinner menu, which was recently updated to boast some of summers better ingredients and has something for everyone. The chilled seafood platter is out of this world and certainly sharable for two or more people. It consisted of king crab legs, island creek oysters and scallops with a yummy smoked cocktail sauce. Not your run of the mill stuff. We also had the pork belly tacos and these are jam packed with flavor, can't say I've had better pork belly anywhere else. Sweet, smokey, and just the right about of spicy heat. Chris, the new executive chef came by the table and introduced himself while bringing out our salad course. We thought it was a nice touch for him to personally check on us and also overheard him providing details about the menu to guests at another table. He valued our feedback and spoke very passionately of food. To finish the meal my wife and I split the grilled tuna entree which was absolutely delicious. It was served with a crispy sticky rice cake, soy bean puree and roasted mushrooms. The tuna was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was topped with a citrusy soy glaze and small salad of arugula and radishes. So light and fresh! My wife and I agreed this was one of the better meals we've had anywhere in a very long time. The entire staff never skipped a beat, the food was incredible and the overall ambiance was great. Stopped by here for the first time on what seemed to be a slow Tuesday night. The service was outstanding, our server was attentive but also allowed us the time to catch up and casually sit and enjoy our wine. I ordered the gnocchi and it was outstanding. Beautiful sunny 70+ degree day. Great place for babies and our golden retriever was able to sit on the other side of the low fence next to us and hang out while we ate. Food was excellent and prices very reasonable compared to some places we've been to recently in Greenwich. We had the Caesar salad, Sails house salad, and sweet potato with lump crab soup special to start. Followed by cod with little neck clams, Cedar Planked wild salmon on hominy cake, and Skirt Steak on truffle fries. Banana caramel bread pudding with homemade praline ice cream was delicious! Will definitely come back. They use Schott Zweisel glasses which always make wine taste better! Casual/dressy atmosphere. Service was spectacular. Plenty of parking. read more

Ya know, maybe I'm just not "right" for this place. Others seem to enjoy it more than I do. True to my word, I came back and this time I ordered a burger. The burger was decent, fries were ok. I *HATED* the mushroom pizza appetizer. This was a major disappointment as I'd been looking forward to trying a pizza here. Our party ordered an appetizer that was the mushroom pizza, and we didn't even finish it. Think about that for a minute, when's the last time you ordered an appetizer and DIDN'T care to finish it? Yep, we all thought it was worth tossing... I don't know. They TRY so hard to be upscale Darien / Rowayton. Place is full of beautiful peeps. I just don't get it... food isn't that great. My husband, I and 2 friends we invited out to dinner dined at your restaurant last night. We waited 45 minutes for appetizers. We waited another hour before dinner was served. Other diners were served. New diners arrived and they were served as well, while we sat and waited. When the food finally arrived it was average at best. Not worth the wait. Had we not had guests we would have gotten up and left. I was rather taken aback at the way we were treated. An overwhelming POOR experience is an understatement. read more

Hit it for the first time after not getting into Rowayton Seafood. Must admit, it exceeded expectations. Food, service and ambiance were well beyond what we hoped for. It's sort of like Rowayton Seafood in many ways (price-point, atmosphere, etc.) but less seafood focused. I really liked it and will be back. read more

Perfect lighting and clean nautical decor create a bright, yet softly warm atmosphere, with a welcome getaway feel. The staff (many refreshingly mature men) are unfussily attentive - e.g., brushing crumbs off the tablecloth, refolding napkins; I was even escorted to the women's rest room! Meticulous attention to detail without pretentiousness. Casual dress. (I expect to see some pink and green/embroidered belt attire this summer.) The food is quite good and our first try inspired a promise of consistency. Rare tuna and Chilean sea bass were served on hot plates with light engaging sauces. (But were those canned baby artichokes?) A creme brûlée with ginger was just wonderful, rich and creamy in a deep ramekin, with a tasty crust that had a little extra crunch. Horrible!! The NY Strip was the worst I've ever had. It was so tough I could barely chew it and the potatoes that came with it were so salty, I had palpatations the whole way home. Truly one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. Like another person who wrote a review here, I used a Groupon and they totally ripped us off. It allows for wine at $8 a glass, but all the wine is $10 and up! Then they charged me for the difference when the bill was over $96. The place is a joke and I will NEVER go back. read more

We went to Sails for the first time due to a Groupon and it turned out to be an awesome deal! Every seat in the restaurant (inside and outside) was packed, possibly because I procrastinated as usual and it was the last day of the Groupon. We sat inside on a Friday night which was nice because there was live music being played in the bar area. I liked the nautical theme of the restaurant, the sails on the ceiling were a very nice touch. Most importantly, we also really enjoyed the food. The tuna tartar appetizer was fantastic! The potato chips and thinly sliced cucumber it came served with gave it a great crunch. The scallops and grits were just okay, the scallops were cooked perfectly but the grits were a bit bland so the dish just didn't have a lot of flavor. The pan crispy duck on the other hand was amazing! Cooked perfectly and we wanted to lick the plate the sauce was so good. We finished the meal with the salty turtle sundae, which was delicious. The martinis were very well made and we a couple good glasses of wine as well. The service was the only slight draw back. We weren't in a rush and were looking for a leisurely meal, so it didn't bother us at all, but I can see why other reviewers have complained. There wasn't a friendly hello and it took a long time to get our first drinks and then for the server to come back and take our order. It also took FOREVER to get the check. dont.get.the.ramen. seriously. it's awful. there are plenty of other good things on their menu but the ramen is just about the worst. picture that time growing up when you did something bad but you felt good about it until your parents found out and they said to you, "i'm not mad, i'm just terribly disappointed". picture that feeling, but in your mouth. the biggest kick in the gut is the price. not only is the ramen seriously bad but it's going to cost you $28 (before tax). If you're looking for good ramen, realize that you're in the suburbs and it doesn't exist. Then drive to the city, pay for gas, pay for tolls, pay for parking, then pay for your food. It'll cost you about $100 but it will be worth it. also, if I could rename the "short rib tacos" I would call them "three wet nachos". They weren't terrible but they too weren't worth the cost. $100 got us 3 drinks, an app, and 1 entree. If that interests you, then it's really not a bad place. The food is really hit or miss but if budget is not a concern, I actually really recommend it. good luck! read more

As locals we go to Sails regularly, if not often. The food and service is generally quite good - amazing burgers. However, we were disappointed by an underwhelming, overpriced dinner on Valentine's Day. Choices were limited as the only menu option was the VERY overpriced Holiday Menu. That said, the lobster bisque was delicious, the Beef Wellington at $42 a plate not so much. What makes me rate this at two stars rather than three, in fact to complain online at all, is that my complaints to Sails via email and on their Facebook page were completely ignored. Which leads me to agree with other past diners that they just don't care. read more

My co worker and her husband took me to dinner at this restaurant and it was such a horrible experience! Her husband ordered a $15 drink that was literally all ice, he took one slurp and it was done. Him being an owner of a business himself asked to speak to the manager about the discrepancy and the gentleman said "i'm not the manager , but will ask" He then proceeded to ask the "manager" when all along he was the owner! How unprofessional is that? In my co workers defense, I picked the restaurant , as it was my first time being there and they had a live band which I liked. It got worst, we got a warm Cesar salad not cold! I literally almost vomited! I also asked for no anchovies, guess what was on my salad, anchovies! I was afraid to send it back, thinking they might spit in our food. But I had to, I couldn't even look at it! I also ordered some mac and cheese , which honestly was nothing special. I also had the organic chicken , that was very dry and not seasoned properly. Now I'm not a chef, but I can season a chicken . Anyways , do yourself a favor and don't waste your money or time. First of all it was pricey and wasn't even tasteful and the management is poor. RED FLAGS! So we have been to Sails a few times, and it has always been good, but a little boring. Well, it closed for a week and is now under new management, so we went back to check it out. Wow. The atmosphere is completely different. It's much more current and the menu is a lot more refined. The food was amazing, and it felt like a sophisticated night out in Manhattan. I don't know about the other reviews on this site, but we were not happy. We purchased a $45 groupon thats value is $96 for dinner (includes two glasses of wine, two entrees and one appetizer). We ordered two glasses of wine to start and then our tuna tartar. Tuna Tartar was actually pretty good, some asian flavors to it, probably from sesame. Then we waited almost 45 minutes for our dinner to come. We arrived about 7:45 and we took about ten minutes to order however our meals came out at around 8:45. My salmon, which was market price (I'm still not sure what that price was) was rather bland. I ordered med-rare and it came out med-well. My husband's veil was inedible and he had to send it back. It took about 20 chews just to be able to swallow it. We waited another 15 or so minutes and a decent skirt steak replaced it. It was on top of truffle fries and served with ketchup, so it was fine. Nothing to write home about however. The fries were overly salty while my salmon dish had absolutely none. The other tables around were not impressed as well. I heard complaints all around. It's rather sad, because the style and ambiance of the restaurant were quite nice. Oh and I will mention this, 4 glasses of wine, two entrees and one appetizer should not have come out to $157 after tip. We were not paying close attention to the total, but after we paid, we left questioning how it was another $61 dollars after the $96 groupon. There should have been only tip, two glasses of wine and the balance for the maket price of the salmon, as the groupon allowed for a $32 entree... some how that doesnt add up to $61 if you ask me. I have been here twice. The first time i got some sort of chicken scarpariello wrap, it was a special and it was very good. The second time i got the steak with truffle fries. The steak was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. I felt the price I paid both times was reasonable for what I got. Also service was very attentive without being overbearing. read more

LOVE this restaurant! The food is excellent and the ambiance is wonderful. It is lively, but cozy and there is a great energy. The menu is diverse and there is something for everyone. The butternut squash soup, braised short rib flatbread, Spiced Rubbed French Chicken Breast,, gourmet pizzas and incredible Salty Turtle dessert are favorites. Not to mention great wine list and coffee is amazing here. Great for date night later or earlier family dinner with kids. Dress is casual, but totally fine to get dressed up and not stick out. My husband and I decided to have a date night using a Groupon that we purchased which included 2 glasses of wine, an appetizer and 2 entrees. Our first impression of Sails was pretty classy but definitely a place where the hoity toity people of the area dine out. Tables were very close together so you couldn't have a private conversation without people all around you hearing it. When we ordered our appetizers we got the $16 snapper tacos and added on an $8 order of truffle fries because we wanted to try them. Both were really good so we can't complain about those. So far a pretty good experience... Next the entrees. My husband ordered the sea scallops and although delicious, only a total of 4 scallops on the plate. I would have been really upset if I was paying the $30 for that without the Groupon. In the store that gets you 2 pounds of scallops! I got the cedar plank Salmon and although tasty, it was a lot drier than I typically like my Salmon and the portion sizer was very little. I've never had anyone ask me how I want my salmon cooked before, so I went with the chef's recommended medium, and it came out quite dry. Experience now just ok... Now the bill. Remember, the only thing that we added to this Groupon was $8 french fries.....the bill was $22. Assuming that since the Groupon had an appetizer value at $16 and we wouldn't be charged for the tacos instead of the fries, I questioned our waiter. The manager came over and said "we take off smaller priced order" Experience now not so great. By the end of the appetizer we had fully planned on going back some day but leaving with the feeling that I had been ripped off changed everything and we will never go back there. They ask you to mention your Groupon when you make your reservation which makes me believe that they scale back a little more than if you came in paying full price. They weren't even going to let me have Pinot Grigio as my wine choice, the waiter had to make a special request. I know when I buy Groupons it's because we want to see what's out there and based on our experience decide if we want to go back. The owners are losing business by treating Groupon holders like 2nd class citizens. There are way too many good restaurants in this area to go back to the mediocre ones. read more
