After walking through town, we stopped in for some lunch. We sat outside, since Mother Nature provided us with a respite from the rain she's been "blessing" us with. My wife ordered a shrimp poke bowl and I had a lobster salad. We also shared a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. My wife raved about her bowl, saying it was the best of the many she'd tried at other restaurants. My salad was good but not "rave-worthy". We finished our meal with the salted caramel ice cream dessert. My wife also raved about her cappuccino, while my espresso was in the top 5 of espressos that I've consumed (and that's many). Last, but not least, the service was very attentive and friendly. This is a good part of my reason for rating them so highly! Full disclosure: It was fairly busy but not crazy busy. I'm enjoying a leisurely Saturday lunch at the bar. Sails has a vibe that is pure Rowayton. Casual and classic and nautical. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl, and I'm bringing at least half of it home with me. The portion is generous, the ingredients fresh and delicious. Bad experience in every aspect except appearance. The potstickers were mushy. They took 20 minutes to bring gazpacho soup when I ordered Lobster bisque. Wrong dish and 20 minutes to bring out cold soup!! The bus boy served only 1 piece of bread and cleared off the dishes without offering more. They also served out table an appetizer that was not ours. I had to call the staff over since they dropped it and walked away immediately. Both wrong items were on the check and deducted but never should have been in the first place. It wasn't even busy for all these mistakes. As we completed our appetizers, the place got crowded. Like packed with people waiting for a table. That's when I think the service changed a bit when it was clear they were looking to flip our table. The waiters and a woman who looked like a manager were scanning the floor for tables that were ready to flip. It was very nice uncomfortable as we were almost done with our main meal and wanted to get dessert. We actually took dessert for our daughter to go as we didn't want her to feel rushed. My husband and I have been wanting to come to this restaurant for sometime and we are glad that we did finally get a chance to have lunch here. The food is very good and the atmospheres nice. The waiter, although nice, didn't seem to be very adept at his job, especially for a restaurant of this price range. I was rather shocked at the cost of the meal. Lunch for two, one appetizer, two salads with protein, one coffee and one mocktail was $160. $43 for a chopped Cobb salad with salmon seems a bit over the top, no matter how good it was. And $14 for a virgin Mojito, basically soda and mint, is also a little crazy. I would love to come back and enjoy another meal at this restaurant however, the price doesn't to sit well with me. Their were 3 of us and he charged us for 6 entrees - double for each one. Perfect place to grab a drink and apps after a paddle match on a cold winter's evening. The open layout and decor is welcoming with a night scene that is full of lively energy. It is nice to have an alternative to Rowayton Seafood and equally as good! We ate at the bar because it was packed! The service is quick. The martinis are perfect and the bartenders are on it! There are tons of yummy apps to choose from and easy to share with friends. We had tex-rex chicken quesadillas (promptly ordered another because they were SO good! The tortillas were so fresh they must have come right out of the oven.) We also had the crunchy calamari, spicy tuna roll, and duck tacos! My wife and I stopped by on Saturday for lunch and it was a pleasant surprise from what I expected to be more of a "pub food" kind of place. Instead it had a wonderfully varied menu from classic Sushi rolls, to fresh seafood, to lamb burgers, to a beyond burger for the Bolsheviks out there. Service was friendly, excellent and quick. It was a perfect day to take advantage of the outdoor patio, which although on the road/street side of the place, felt very quite and cozy b/c or that large tree protecting the area. No one was indoors when I was there (it was a perfect day), but it seemed lovely. Also plenty of parking -- which is huge in a small town like this. I tried 3 different fresh oysters and 2 of them were amazing and the 3rd, while not to my taste, was fresh and crisp. My codfish Fish & Chips was perfection! Extremely light, super crispy and tasty batter with the cod being cooked to perfection. I would have like a larger portion, but it was still one of the best fried fish dishes I'd ever had. I'm also a nut for and excellent tartar sauce and I hate, and I mean hate allot of them. This one was incredible --- and that saying something. Very clean tasting and not overwhelming like most. I've had more fried seafood meals ruined by tartar's far too pickley or dilly or in general ones that overwhelm the dish. This one was perfection. The fries were the thin (McDonald's thin) type, but cooked to perfection. My wife had the chicken Stir fry which she enjoyed, although she felt it was a bit on the salty side. I tried it as well, but not being a teriyaki sauce fan it was not for me -- but it came is a choice of sauce and meat (also shrimp or lobster) so there is something there for everyone. The chicken was very plentiful and butter tender and the portion size was quite generous. My drink (a Mojito, as I recall, was very good as well. Only downside was the price tag, but it seems like all restaurants are trying to "make up" for the Covid downturn so a bit of 'sticker-shock' is to be expected almost anywhere these days. I would say that this place is highly recommended. BTW: It's a lovely little spot this Rowayton -- so try to keep it to yourself before it gets ruined. read more

The food has gone from "very good" to "marginal," but it's the service that has really gone to hell. You shouldn't have to ask for butter for your (hard, stale, burnt) cheese biscuit for which you were charged $5, nor should you have to ask for salt and pepper for your table, nor should you have to send up a signal flare to get your check. Basically, that means they added a sail to the ceiling, a few pictures of sail boats on the wall, and some cleats around the edge of the restaurant. What did change was the quality and variety of the menu. Our table sampled the pizza, the black truffle mac n cheese, and the mussels as our appetizers, all of which were tasty and filling. For my dinner I tagged the sesame crusted tuna with pomegranate reduction which was both fresh, crispy, and fruity. Not to mention the stellar bloody mary that helped wash away a cold, icy night. If you are in Rowayton there is no question you will sit down at Sails at some point and when you do you will be pleased you did. read more

We ordered Tuna Tartar and it was absolutely outstanding. We looked forward to the rest of the dinner hoping that it would be as good. For the old the menu features braised short ribs with polenta and cedar planked wild salmon, For the new, the chef let me try his Togarashi french fries (spicy and delicious) which he is paring with flown in Nantucket Bay Scallops (yum). I love this restaurant. I've been hearing buzz on it for a long time and have been dying to try it. While the mixed reviews on yelp had me a little apprehensive, I have to say, I loved it!! Our group tried a mix of burgers, pasta, french onion soup, tuna tartar and the goat cheese tart. EVERYTHING was amazing. We also split the banana caramel bread pudding which was unbelievable. Visiting the parents from Philly, decided to try out the new spot in town. We got the last available table in the house, which, unfortunately, was maybe 4 inches from every other table, making for a tight squeeze and some awkward elbowing. As per Rivercat, it gets pretty flipping loud in here, especially when the restaurant is full. So if you want to hear yourself think, much less the people you came with, try a less busy night. The service was fairly prompt after drinks arrived, and the food was fine, nothing spectacular but nothing disastrous. I had the butternut squash soup which was quite yummy, and the truffle mac & cheese which was almost too hot to eat and waaaaay to heavy on the truffles. I love me some truffles but it was overwhelming. Both Dad and the BF's meat came out overdone. Enjoyed a few beers and a nice brunch at Sails a couple of weeks ago. It was the middle of the day on a Saturday in January (no more football), so not exactly the peak period. The food was decent enough and the bartender was really talkative given we were the only people in there. I think this place is probably pretty good given they have like zero competition in the local area. I think that it is probably a little expensive but you are in Rowayton. My husband and I wanted to try something new. It was 80* and perfect out. We called on our way asking if we needed reservations to sit outside. The hostess we spoke with said "there's plenty of room" and "we don't reserve outside seating". By the time we showed up there were 3 tables pushed together to for a table for six outside. DESPITE the "first come, first serve" policy, that table was *reserved* for dining room overflow. When we decided to leave because we wanted to eat dinner outdoors, another hostess was like "oh, you're the ones who called? I have a table for you." What? Seriously? OK. "Not outside though, its in our dining room." I'm not sure if blonde is her natural color but c'mon. Didn't you just hear us say (multiple times) that we wanted to eat dinner somewhere we could be outside. Maybe in a few years we'll forget the idiocracy and go back to actually try the food. read more

I love the fact that unlike other restaurants Sails likes to change up their menu a lot! Only downside is that if you find an item you like next time you come back it might not be there! We love the ahi tuna starter and their burgers and salads are always on par.. I have had a couple of different pasta entrees which are no longer on their current menu but the chicken that is offered is really yummy! This place is alright. The atmosphere is really nice and the service is great but the food is okay. The Caesar salad dressing tasted like mayonnaise and the lettuce had been grilled which made it somewhat soggy. The burger and fries were good for sure but not anything special. I wish I would have gotten the sushi but it was like 18$ for a California roll which is just crazy. Probably won't be back. read more
