The Sailing Ship Columbia is one of the iconic ships on the Rivers of America. The Columbia is the one that looks like a pirate ship, which it becomes during Fantasmic! It's a slow-moving attraction that takes you on a very scenic loop. It's great if you need to slow down your day. There's a top deck but you can go below deck too, but you need to be able to go up and down the steps. I hadn't been on it in a while but decided why not this time around. It's such a nice day to just stand and stare at all the tourists milling about. It's a relaxing ride on the water. If you need to relax but still feel the need to visit an attraction at Disneyland, this is it.

A icon of the Rivers of America at Disneyland! I love seeing this great ship sail periodically, and especially in the nighttime shows. I wish there was more ways to escape the sun when taking a ride, but other than that it is definitely something you want to try at least once!

The Sailing Ship Columbia on the Rivers of America in Disneyland is a relaxing break from the busier parts of the park. On our most recent visit, they didn't fire the cannon however. The cannon is usually fired on each voyage. There's a bell kids can ring, and below deck there's even more to see. The Mark Twain River Boat is currently closed for maintenance, and the Sailing Ship Columbia is scheduled to be closed in 2024 for maintenance. From the deck you get a great view of New Orleans Square, Tom Sawyers Island, Disneyland Railroad, and other attractions in the park.

It was so cool to ride upon a large ship like this without getting seasick even! Ypu can feel free to walk around the ship once it sets sail. Don't miss out down below. Sleeping arrangements will make anyone appreciate their beds. The cast does a great job roll playing. The girls got a kick out of the cannon going off amd the bridge being raised and lowered to board the ship.

Who could hate the Columbia? (I mean, beside the the guy who was killed by a metal cleat back on Christmas Eve 1999?) And, anyone between the age of 8 and 34? For the most part, I love Columbia because it's a chance to relax. It's like a 84 foot tall bench on water. You get to walk around, too, so it feels like a party. A weird, boring party, but a party nonetheless. I love it because you can look for the Disneyland cats, which my friend Mike thought were audio-animatronic until we saw one licking his own butt. Disney's creations do NOT do that. Could you imagine Abraham Lincoln doing that? I can. That would be a great moment. Anyway, I assume the Mark Twain has the same effect in regards to being a relaxing cat viewing party, but the Columbia feels more "piratesque" whereas the Mark Twain seems more "slavey".

This is so much better than the Mark Twain Paddle-Steamboat thing! Not only is it easier to hear everything the taped narrator is telling you, but there's so much more to see and experience on board. And, before I forget, this ship sails from the same dock as the Mark Twain boat - right across from Big Thunder Mountain. They have it on a schedule so that the two boats rotate through the embarkation point, which you may not realize, since this ship's slip is across from The Haunted Mansion. It's definitely more interactive, with a whole "scene" below decks, "cannon" along the rails, and some kind of see-saw contraption that makes the kids think they're contributing to the movement of the ship. I was surprised by how crowded the ship got, especially given the fact that it "broke" while we were in line the first time (they told everyone that the ship was down for an undetermined amount of time, right after they cleared it of passengers from its prior cruise). You're not covering any new ground, if you've been on the Mark Twain boat, but it's presented differently enough that I found I enjoyed this ship much more. Down below, you get a glimpse into the living/working quarters of the crew and the Captain. You can see where they stored their necessities (including guns!), where the Captain took his meals, and where they slept - though, I found myself hoping - for the sake of the crew - that their sleeping berths were miniaturized for the park. Up top, the "crew" of the ship are more involved with the cruise, as well. They even "fire the cannon" once or twice, at one point! Yes, I was amused by that! Returning to the dock was kind of cluster, with one crew member telling us to move further down the ship, then turning around and telling us we had to move from the spot he had just moved us to, but it's not a big deal. They manage to make the enter/exit phase pass smoothly and efficiently, and they managed to corral the unruly kids that were running, climbing and screaming at the beginning of the cruise. I know this ship doesn't sail very often, so if you happen to see it floating around the lagoon, do yourself a favor and get in line for its next tour!

This ship was set for people to come on and just look at it since they are getting ready for the Star Wars construction the River Boat was parked on the other side of the river where I believe this one usually sits when not in use. I've been in this a couple of times but never went below deck so it was cool to check out below deck. Got to see the Capt quarters and their eating and sleeping area as well as the weapons and other things. I don't know how long this will be like that I assume not for long cause once they start construction for Star Wars land it will probably be all closed and blocked.

There is no poop deck on the boat...make sure to use the restroom before you depart on your journey around the Rivers of America. I am sorry for the 3 stars Sailing Ship Columbia...the Mark Twain is my favorite of the big boats at Disneyland. The Sailing Ship Columbia is nice but it just seems like the Mark Twain is a bit more on the fun side and tells a better story. The Columbia also has a tenancy to be docked most of the time while the Mark Twain Riverboat is in service on most days. Most people believe that the Columbia is a pirate ship...they could not be farther from the truth. The boat is actually modeled after the ship from the 18th century that discovered the Columbia River and became the first American ship to circumnavigate the globe. I did not know this fact for the longest time and once I found out I had to actually ask around to make sure it was correct but it totally is. I actually was a bit happier thinking of it as a pirate ship. I guess with Pirates of the Caribbean being within walking distance that would have been a bit redundant. Unlike the Mark Twain there is only two levels on this ship...the main deck and the lower deck. You spend more time checking out the stuff around the river than you spend checking out the boat on this attraction. On busy days both the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia are running. If it was me I would wait to ride the Mark Twain but either ride is just as magical as it's counterpart. :0)

Ahoy matey! I don't make it a habit of riding the Columbia or Mark Twain but it was a busy Friday afternoon and since I know they are temporarily closing to make room for Star Wars land, I wanted to take one last opportunity to take a ride before they close for a while. It's a fun ride to enjoy great views of the park that you can't really get from other places at Disneyland. The theme is well-executed and it's fun to wander around the ship during the quick journey around the Rivers of America.

We jumped on the Columbia on the second half of day one. The girls fell asleep about 1/3 of the voyage, but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Fun experience sailing through the river of adventure land, seeing Daniel Boones raccoon skin hat on the door of the cabin in the woods and the crew shooting warning shots off the starboard bow to ward off aggressive injuns. Great fun. A must see with a turkey leg , some sunscreen and a very large drink.

my son prefers the columbia over the mark twain...b/c it is a PIRATE SHIP! i personally don't care...either way you are on a 15 minutes cruise around pirate island and it is cool either way. of course my daughter would rather be on the "pretty white boat" aka the mark twain (that doesn't sound so cool to a little girl) ...we make up names to make the rides more appealing...like the first time she went on Matterhorn, she was mortified of the snowmonster! so we told her it was a big fluffy white teddy bear...so we went a second time and she loved it! now it is un-officially called the teddy bear ride. like Eric N. said...no bathroom on this (but that is the case for the mark twain too). as an adult...i feel that if you like one boat...you'll like the other the same.

This is a project in which elementary, middle, and high school choirs and bands performed at Valencia High School in the city of Placentia, CA, in the morning, and were then invited to visit Knott's Berry Farm for fun and the award ceremony in the late afternoon. We were thrilled that both our Bishop Amat Choir and Bands took home four first-place trophies across four categories. Back to Knott's Berry Farm, this amusement park is so much fun. It is a large property, and there is so much to see, do, and enjoy a great, memorable time. On this day, when we visited the park, it was a bit crowded (but fun nonetheless) as numerous school-aged choirs and bands were there, and it was also opening day for Knotts' Soak City water park. Knotts had a promotion for ticket holders who visited both parks on the same day. The crowds were no problem whatsoever as we ALL managed to get on numerous rides, listen to music, eat ice cream, and have bartered fish tacos for dinner. The park is well-maintained, employees were all extremely friendly and helpful, and security can be seen throughout the park to ensure everyone's safety. My family and I chose to purchase standard annual passes, which were very affordable at $120.09 per pass. Interest-free monthly payments are a great option if you prefer not to pay for your season pass in one shot. Now that my family and I have annual passes with parking included, we will definitely visit often, if only to have lunch or dinner at the park.

Use a credit card to book your room, so you can use their quick check in line. Either way, make sure you take the exact card you use to book for checking in. Before you go, buy the discounted dining deal. You can only buy it in advance, and the food and drinks are pretty pricey, so you will spend $$$. I also suggest attaching your credit card to your wristband for convenience. We really enjoyed the pizza place onsite. We checked in on a Sunday and it was a bit crowded, but we managed to do it all in three hours. The kids loved the bunk bed, and my only complaint about our room is that the tub faucet leaked. The next day, we packed a bag with a change of clothes that we fit into a small locker for $12, and went back into the waterpark for a couple more hours. I recommend packing travel toiletries for a quick shower before leaving. They have plenty of showers, changing rooms, and a swimsuit dryer, but no toiletries in the waterpark bathrooms. Waterpark towels are provided and must be checked out and in or you'll be charged, so don't lose them. There's a water bottle refill station in the waterpark near the bathrooms. We didn't try many of the activities offered except for the arcade that offered packages starting at $35. Lastly, be sure to pay for parking before you leave. That was also $35. All in all, we got a deal on the room but spent more on food, drinks, games, and parking combined. My kids are 5 and 10, and they were able to go on just about everything that was open. One day was plenty of time if you don't plan on doing all of the activities.

The issue is not necessarily that every employee was rude -- the real problem is the completely broken system and lack of communication between departments. We booked THREE rooms for 18 guests for a birthday celebration and simply wanted to reserve and pay for a place where everyone could eat lunch together and celebrate with cake. Something that should have been straightforward became an exhausting process filled with confusion, conflicting information, and endless transfers between departments. The front desk had no idea about the policies of the events department. The front desk also had no clear understanding of pool policies. Every single question required someone to "leave a note" for another department and wait for an email response that never came. No callbacks. No follow-up. No accountability. The most frustrating part was trying to contact the front desk directly. First, you are forced through an AI system. Then you finally reach someone in the "reservation department," who is not even onsite. Despite politely asking multiple times to be transferred directly to the front desk, they refused and insisted they could help. They could not. Instead, they placed me on hold supposedly to ask the front desk themselves -- and after 11 minutes on hold, they never came back. At that point, yes, the reservation department representatives themselves became part of the problem: rude, dismissive, unprofessional, poorly trained, and completely incapable of resolving even simple questions. This company has far too many unnecessary departments that clearly do not communicate or work together. Planning an important family event here became stressful instead of enjoyable. I will never host another birthday event at Great Wolf Lodge again, and I would strongly caution families against wasting their time and money here for important celebrations.
