The Matterhorn Bobsleds... what can I say? It's one of those classic Disneyland rides you have to do at least once, just to say you did it. First off, the mountain itself? Iconic. You can see that thing from forever away, sitting there like Disneyland's version of "yep, we're doing this." But once you get in the bobsled... well... let's just say you're not exactly gliding in luxury. This thing bumps you, jerks you, rattles you, and occasionally reminds your spine that it exists. It's less "smooth alpine adventure" and more "let's see if your seat bolts are still tight." There are moments of fun, sure. It's fast, it's quirky, and it has that old-school charm that keeps it alive. But it definitely feels its age in the ride experience. A little smoother track would go a long way, because right now it's got a lot of slap-happy motion going on. We did it, we enjoyed it enough, but I'll be honest it didn't hit anywhere close to something like Splash Mountain or the newer rides. Those just feel more complete and polished. So I'm in the middle on this one. Glad we rode it. Probably not rushing back into line, unless I forget how many times it tried to rearrange my posture. Classic? Absolutely. Comfortable? Matterhorn Bobsleds opened on June 14, 1959 and is located at the Fantasyland area of Disneyland. It's the location of the tall Matterhorn mountain that towers over the park. The ride had some sharp turns, sudden drops, and was pitch black at parts. Near the end there was a small water part but we didn't get wet. It was a classic roller coaster ride. read more

This ride is a timeless classic. I remember spotting the Matterhorn during the long-awaited drive to Disneyland while I was growing up. They've definitely made some improvements over the years with the ride experience, primarily the Yeti. I will say, the ride is not as kind to aging guests. I just know from experience to expect a very bumpy ride, a stiff neck and a sore back after riding this ride. It's not unbearable, but definitely more noticeable nowadays. I LOVE THIS RIDE! The Matterhorn Bobsleds is apparently the first rollercoaster at Disneyland & is the first tubular steel coaster IN THE WORLD! It's one of my personal favorites and I always have to go on it every time I'm here. Still, as awesome as I remembered. It's thrill ride for sure but doesn't go upside or anything, so I'd say it's still a good ride for those who want to ride something fun and not scary at all! It does go fast, especially on turns towards the end and is a bit bumpy. We tried both lines, regular line & the other fastpass line, and we found that we enjoyed the regular line's route more! It felt faster and there were more turns? Not sure how true that is but we did notice a slight difference in the rides. read more

First time at Disney and honestly loved this ride. Stay loose or you might dislodge a shoulder or rib haha. It is fun and fast. We rode it a couple times!! The line stayed pretty long all day long. The coaster had nice level changes twisties and was fun quick ride that isn't one of the modern style coasters. I like Disney's theme for every ride! One of the better ones at the park! Matterhorn Bobsleds is fast moving downwards ride that stars slow uphill and goes down in a large and fast mountainous spiral. This can be hard on the body for those with back pain and those who are larger and taller. It can be very loud at times. I would say that this ride is good for 7+ yrs old who are not intimidated by theme park rides . There is a height requirement, so keep that in mind. DISNEYLAND RIDE #5: Matterhorn Bobsleds Playing catch up on all my Disneyland ride reviews! Our first Lightning Lane Pass purchase was for the Matterhorn Bobsleds, a Yeti-themed rollercoaster ride. When the pass was ready, we headed right over here. While waiting in line, I saw a sign saying that you might get wet during this ride, so just to be safe, I stored my phone and my watch in my clear bag to prevent both from possible water damage. Because we purchased a Lightning Lane Pass, we were in line for no more than five minutes. We really had to choose wisely on which rides we would use our Lightning Lane Pass on. Although we were notified by numerous signs in advance that we would probably get wet, the splashes on this ride weren't bad at all and I didn't get wet once. The atmosphere of this ride is loud, dark, and scary, but not that scary to me. I remember riding the Matterhorn Bobsleds for the first time during my choir trip to Disneyland my sophomore year in high school and I was nervous to ride this at first because I didn't know it would have loop de loops or not. But I was told they didn't and decided to ride it as a result. Realizing that I didn't get too wet during this ride, I'll keep my phone and watch out of my bag next time. Great thrill seeking ride! **October 2025: Friday Night Visit** I've done the Matterhorn Bobsleds a number of times growing up, but as I've gotten older my body doesn't recover as quickly, as such I hadn't gone on it in a while. Recently, my friend said that we needed to go on it to complete all the rides in Disneyland Park, so we buckled up and went for a ride - which actually was a lot smoother than I remembered. This ride changed their bobsled design from when I was growing up and the seat has a cushion and back support for each rider which significantly improved the comfort of experience. There are two opportunities to see the Yeti, and at night it's a pretty dark experience. I can see the nostalgia appeal, but it's just okay for me. read more

A very cool ride that will tear you up if you're not with a bulletproof back. I've been to many parks and been on many rides. The back reaching on this one is aligned to rides at the state fair. Still worthy of your time. One of the most visual focal points in the park. Tip - Good food just across from the entrance to the ride. (and yes there is a basketball half court inside) This is the ride that looks like a giant snow cone got dropped on Anaheim and someone said, "Yeah, that'll work." Built in 1959, the Matterhorn was the first tubular steel roller coaster on Earth. Translation: Walt decided to invent an entirely new kind of thrill ride without knowing if human spines would make it out alive. Here's the insane part: there were no computers back then. The history of this ride is very cool and I love that Disney is keeping this around. It can be a bit rough on the body. I got a bit dizzy / jerked around feeling after getting off. Would suggest doing this later in the day for that reason. Very cool that it is the oldest ride in the park! Recently went on this roller coaster last month. This was the first time in I wanna say 30 years. It's a solid ride for sure. Not too scary for kids and fun enough for adults to get your heart rate a little up. Also had the lightning pass so the wait wasn't too long at all! Went on this coaster with my 8 and 6 year old nieces. The older one loved it and the younger one was still a little scared, but powered through it just fine. I could tell it wasn't her favorite at least for now. Maybe because it was a little shaky and I think her head bobbed a little more than she would have liked. The design and visuals for this ride feel timeless. Just a well done ride for all ages. Also for me personally, I enjoyed going to the nearby shop and getting the coconut macaroon that is shaped like this ride complete with the frosted cap. read more

I still love this ride, it will be always be a classic Disneyland ride that should never be replaced nor removed. However, Disneyland ride maintenance needs to GET IT TOGETHER and completely renovate the ride so there isn't a high or even slight chance that the ride will temporarily close daily. This a great classic ride and I love it. That's the good part. The bad part is that anyone who has "lived life" long enough well quickly notice that the track is old school and not a smooth ride. You will feel (and I mean all the way to the bone feel it) for every "turn" in the curves and the herky jerky movements of the ride. That is not to say you should avoid it - the ride will tell you who shouldn't ride - but even for those of us who don't meet the "suggested" self-imposed "no ride" list - beware!!!! read more

Caution for you folks with bad backs/hips/neck pain...this ride isn't for you. I love the concept of zooming through the mountain and avoiding the yeti. Weaving in and out, up and down...yeah it's a blast! However, it has a lot of quick jerks and dips that will knock you around (or send your cell phone flying out of your husband's shirt pocket because he didn't put it away safely). My kids love this ride but they did find it semi scary when they were younger because of the yeti sections. Overall, a lovely ride with lightning lane access. Oh! And Disney lost and found is the best ;) The cast members scour the ride at the end of the day and collect all items...like cell phones that happen to get tossed out. read more

It is a 50/50 chance that this ride is working, and most of the day it would show that it was not. We passed by while waiting for lighting passes at another attraction and it stayed that the wait was only 30min, hopped in line. It was definitely not 30min wait. Add 20min to any time estimate. The ride was "having technical difficulties" while on it and then shortly after I noticed that it was temporarily closed. It is a 3 individual seated connected to 2 log-ish style ride, so you at a time. It doesnt move as quickly as other rides however, which makes the wait longer. read more

This is one of Disneyland's oldest rollercoasters that opened not too long after the park opened. The ride is named after the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Alps. I am probably aging myself, but I remember back when Disneyland had a Skyway that went through the mountain. The Matterhorn can be seen from a long distance away as you approach Disneyland. When we were kids, our excitement level would always go up when we arrived in Anaheim and could see the mountain from the freeway. Matterhorn Bobsleds is located in Fantasyland and is a fun bumpy high speed ride on a track that goes in and out of the mountain. It is the world's first tubular steel roller coaster. While on the ride, you encounter a couple of Abominable Snowmen that howl at you as you pass by them. The ride itself has been renovated many times over the years. It is still a fun ride and one of my favorites. I like to ride the Matterhorn Bobsleds at night for more of a thrilling experience. read more

I love the Matterhorn Bobsleds ride! It is fast and lots of fun. You get on the ride, and it takes you in and out of a mountain. It is super cool. I always feel like I am in Alaska or something- at least that is how I envision Alaska being lol It is a bit.... jerky? For lack of a better term. So, if you have back or neck problems of any kind, I would not suggest this ride. It goes pretty quick, and you can definitely injury yourself because of the rapid movements. Unfortunately, I believe this ride goes down a lot. There have been a number of times that I've been at Disneyland and The Matterhorn Bobsleds is "out of order" or maintenance is being done. It seems to breakdown a lot. Which is a bummer. So if you are visiting the park and it is working, jump on it! lol read more

My grandfather had been to Disneyland a few times in his life and his favorite ride was Matterhorn Bobsleds. The snowy peak is recognizably stark and visible from from many corners of the Disneyland Park, beckoning curiosity and acknowledgment alike. He loved climbing into the single-file bobsled units and zipping through sharp turns whilst basking in the wilderness adventure spirit and peekaboo Park views that collectively make this ride thrilling. I don't go on this ride too often myself because of motion sickness, but whenever I pass by I pause for a moment to think of my grandfather. He had a hard life as a child of war, and I am happy that Matterhorn Bobsleds could make him smile :) read more

The last time I had visited Disneyland this ride was closed and I was so disappointed at not getting the opporunity to ride it. This time it was open and I made sure to ride it twice-once for now and once for all those years ago. Lightning lane is the way to go to not have to overly wait for this ride. Set up like a Swiss bobsled with 3 seats per car you really have to rush to get all your gear secure so that you are ready to take off into your adventure. The ride starts off in the dark as you are climbing the lift hill and beyond. So, for a while was wondering if there would be any light. Then like a wild mouse type of ride it makes rugged twists and turns and drops that have you screaming for fun!! Inside you will hear growls of the abominable snowman as you whiz by him. The ride goes inside and out and of course my favorite was when our car pushed through the splashdown pool of water near the end. Didn't even get wet for that one. Still it was so fun. Please be aware of the fact that if you have any sort of mobility issues then it is not recommended you ride this attraction. It is noted on a sign. The Matterhorn dates back almost to the time of the park's opening. Walt Disney was inspired by the real Matterhorn in Switzerland to have it built and using forced persepective the ride appears bigger than it actually is. At one time the now defunct Disney skyway went through it and it has been sealed up. An original car from the Matterhorn is currently on display at Disney's 100th anniversary exhibition now touring in the US and London. The Animal Kingdom counterpart: Needless to say the Matterhorn was the inspiration for Expedition Everest. That ride features the Yeti and of course more exciting with a portion of the ride running backwards, it goes beyond words to state that Expedition Everest is one of the wildest coasters in that park. Still it is always good to remember its roots and the Matterhorn does just that. It always has and always will be one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland. read more

I love, love, love this ride, I think it's one of the best rides at DisneyLand and worth the wait to go on it at least once. Luckily, the Matterhorn is now part of the Genie+ ticket upgrade and you can reserve a time slot in the Lightening Lane (formerly Fast Pass). I didn't know until this trip that one of the two bobsled tracks has a steep drop and one does not. We were on the steep drop bobsled, it was amazing. I'm glad I wasn't in the front seat because I would've had to close my eyes. Don't worry, you'll get your fill of terror as you criss-cross and pass the other bobsled at speeds that feel like 90 mph. and it severely tilt as if you're gonna come off the rails. Big fun, wish we'd gone twice. read more

The Matterhorn is a fantastic ride. Do you know the story about Harold? Do you know that there are two Harolds? Harold I was featured in the Matterhorn from 1978 through 2015. Currently, Harold 2.0 is roaming around inside the Matterhorn to make a lunch of you if you fall out of your bobsled. The Matterhorn is great during the day and during the night. Dare I say, It was better at night. A couple of TIPS TIP 1: The front seat is great but if you're tall, it's a cramped fit. TIP 2: If you happen to make your own lightsaber in Galaxy Edge it will fit on the right side in its carrying case If you want to see the original Harold, you will have to go to DCA to see him Wanna guess where his new hangout is? A classic attraction that's a must to ride, though it definitely rearranges your back (why the 4 stars)! Be careful if you have back or neck problems, and try to get the right side as the tracks are smoother! Though it can leave me in pain, I definitely enjoy the ride as it's been a favorite since a kiddo. One day I know it hurts less to ride as it's very jolty. read more

If you are over 35 or have back issues or taller than 6 feet do not get on this ride! It's the ride of aches, pains & hell. Bobsleds are too small, ride jerks too much & it breaks down a lot & that's the reason why lines are always too long. One of the oldest & worst rides here in my opinion. They need to redo the Bobsleds make them bigger & redo the turns. And If by any reason you get on this ride (& you over 35) because your kids convince you please, PLEASE take Tylenol Extra Strength AND ibuprofen before you get on it & say a prayer, good luck. As for me it's a no, unless they redo it I'll never get on it again, this ride is more for younger people. read more

The Bobsleds used to be fun. I do love the concept and how it was remodeled with the Yeti and how he follows you through the ride. The only issue I have is we always get sent to the left hand side of the ride. We rode on both side of the mountain and the left hand side is way more bumpy and not smooth at all. The right-hand side is usually smoother but has been recently only for the Lightening Lane riders only. Single Rider Line, holler!!! Located in Fantasyland right next to Alice in Wonderland. You can't miss the giant, icy blue mountain. Looks super pretty lit up at night too! This ride is also estimated to be anywhere from 40 mins to 1 hour (or more), unless you beeline it straight to here at rope drop). Yelper Alana M., and I were waiting in line, but decided to do Single Rider Line instead (ended up waiting 5 mins to get on the individual bobsleds as opposed to a possible 40 mins wait if we rode on the same bobsled, lol!). This ride is gentler than Space Mountain over in Tomorrowland. The bobsled ride is a low rider seater. Once you're seated, buckle up your seatbelt and get ready to enjoy the ride! It's full of fast twists and turns, some parts jerky, some parts not. There's no huge drops, whew! Around the corner, you'll end up meeting the Yeti that'll pop up from its hiding place and scare you with a quick roar. Before the ride ends, you pass a waterfall, but won't get soaked (maybe a few sprayed droplets). Overall, it's an enjoyable ride worth checking out! read more
