My wife and I sailed on the Harbor Lights sunset cruise this evening and it was the most relaxing Sunday evening we've had in quite some time. I highly recommend it. I found the Groupon offer for Sunday nights so we purchased our tickets through Groupon. You still have to make reservations on the Sail With Scott website, but the instructions are included with the Groupon, and the code they provide cancels out the charge. As others have said, print out the Groupon, as they will scan the barcode when you board, and then they check you against the reservations list. This is not really a "spur of the moment" activity because of the online registration requirement. There are no walk-ups. The party boat has two decks, and both had a lot of people, but it didn't feel overly full to me. There was room to move around, but we actually didn't. When we boarded, we went up to the upper deck, found a good seat up front and just stayed there the whole trip. (We were sitting at a table that one of the crew mentioned converted to a bench. So, if your table wobbles, it probably just needs to be locked.) It is BYOB and you can bring snacks as well. We did not - the staff handed out (small) bottles of water, so we had that, and we had just eaten. Next time, we will be more loaded up - we just wanted to go through it once and see what it was like. (There are plenty of places in the area to eat or get food for the boat.) There were people with coolers, people with suitcases (huh?), people with board games and people with nothing. So, whatever floats your boat (so to speak.) You can actually just go and gaze out over Lake Ray Hubbard while cruising at a casual pace (my GPS said we were doing five knots). If you're a very active person who always has something to do, this probably is annoying but it can be good for you - it's called "relaxing" and lots of people do it every day without any signs of harm. I do think it would be fun to take some friends, a bottle of wine, a little antipasti and just cruise around. At just under ninety minutes or so, it's never going to be a booze cruise, but that's not a bad thing for a Sunday night. There were some kids along, so if you're allergic, you might want to try the later cruise - or maybe another night. The final question on the Groupon survey was "Would you do this again without the Groupon?" While I liked saving five dollars each, I would surely pay "Full price" for this cruise. It is a great way to end a weekend. Next time, we'll try the catamaran. read more

What a beautiful experience! Being in Dallas, I often miss the water and quick access to the beaches. But I always forget there is plenty of water and activities like these just a short drive away. It is really nice to get away from the commotion of the big city and enjoy the outdoors and this sailing experience was a definite highlight and one of my new favorite ways to do this. The boat ride itself was about 1.5 hours, sailing with a good size group in a very cute, wooden sailboat. Scott is happy to let you get behind the wheel and show you a few things if you are so inclined. You are also welcome to just sit back with the food and booze you can bring and dine on their multiple picnic tables and enjoy the beautiful view. I would say, though there were a good amount go groups on this boat, to be this sunset cruise is a PERFECT romantic outing and I think it's best for a date night. What a great, relaxing way to enjoy the local lakes around Dallas. I would definitely recommend this and it well worth the price. read more

Once control was in my hands, I was a little concerned, but Scott is standing right there to ensure you don't shipwreck. You can bring your own beverages and snacks. Our seats had little fold out tables, very convenient. The sunset was stunning to watch. His crew mate was very friendly and will take as many pics of you as you want with your phones. Our cruise had adults only thankfully, so if you bring kiddos, please make sure they behave so as not to ruin the calm vibe for everyone else. The boat trip is a hour and half boat trip in Rockwall. Very friendly and personable crew. Scott let you maneuver the boat when you are out in open waters to ensure you don't crash the boat lol. So my friend's mom was in town and she wanted to do something unique and special so she reserved a boat to sail around Lake Ray Hubbard for up to 49 of her friends and family. Luckily I got to get in on this and take a cruise on the Seawolf. The boat is docked in front of the Hilton on Lake Ray Hubbard. You can either go on the cruises that are open to the public and you pay per person to get on the boat OR you can rent out the entire boat for yourself for the afternoon and the only people cruising will be you and your friends! You bring your own food (we picked up catering from Culpepper's) and also your own booze. Bottled water is provided on the boat but who wants that? They have two huge coolers with ice for you to put your libations inside. The boat is a large catamaran that the guy built himself! He said it took him 2 years and they've been sailing for 2 years. He and his wife spend their days out on the boat sailing people around - what a freakin great job huh?! We took off and we actually motored to the other end of the lake. The breeze was nice, the music was cheesy (all the first songs we heard had something to do with sailing or a boat - but it was festive so whatever!), and the booze was flowing! When we got to the other side of the lake he shut the motor off and anyone that wanted a dip in the lake could get in. You have to wear your life jacket and also hold on to the rope on the back but still, quite a few people cooled themselves off. So you are on the boat for a few hours and are drinking - what are you going to do about the bathroom? Yeah, I know all you nasty people are thinking "pee in the lake" but that isn't an option thank goodness. They have mens and women's restrooms below deck on either side. Now, these are literally just a small toilet port-o-pottie put down there on the ground with a curtain in front of it but it is better than nothing. O now you know. Then the fun happens. They put the sails up. This is pretty cool if you have kids because they let the kiddos help with this. Plus it is freaking amazing how fast you start going once those sails are up!! You can also take your turn steering the ship...but I have a feeling people would prefer I stick to what I do best which is sitting around drinking! Overall quite a fun day - I can't even swim and I had a fun day! So if you don't have a boat but want to spend the day out on the water, call Scott and he can hook you up!! read more

Took the 1.5 hour sunset ride and it was worth every penny to my gf and I. There's a bathroom on board but it's a good idea to use the bathrooms down at the dock before you board. Also show up twenty minutes early to park and walk down to the dock, which is down and off to the side of the Hilton. It's non smoking but byob is fine. We brought wine, plastic cups and a meat cheese and cracker tray. Make sure you take lots of pics, bask in the moment and socialize, everyone on board is having a great time as well. This is THE most relaxing and wonderful experience in DFW. I highly encourage the sunset cruise. For $25.00 a person its the cheapest and best therapy after a hard week. Scott is truly a master at sailing and such a joy to be around. The views, the music, the atmosphere, the boat, everything are 5 Star. You can even bring dinner on board and Scott has a cooler for your drinks (BYOB). I've taken my wife and children and they love it. If you want to impress anyone: a date, out of town guest, family, in-laws/out-laws or a business associate then I would highly recommend dinner at Glorias on the Harbor and then go sailing with Scott. This is our favorite thing to do with out of town guests. It's so relaxing and beautiful. The views are gorgeous and I love watching folks come out of their shell and smile in shared happiness at total strangers. The crew is awesome as well and they play fun music. The Seawolf leaves port on time so give yourself plenty of time to park and walk down. Definitely reserve your spot ahead of time as I've seen sad folks being left at the dock because there wasn't enough room. My best friend hosted a girl's weekend in Dallas. She wasn't sure if we would be up for it, so she waited till we got to Dallas to make a decision. We booked Friday late night for the following Saturday at 5 pm. We were extremely nervous we weren't going to make the list because we booked very last minute and hadn't heard anything from Scott. We decided to go to the docks anyway. As we were driving over the lake, I immediately noticed how beautiful the lake really was. You would never think that a body of water like this existed this far from the coast. There were cool shops and restaurants on the boardwalk where Scott's boat was docked. We didn't get the chance to dine there, but I would definitely want to if I came back to Dallas again. There are a lot of photo ops (on and off the boat), so make sure to come a little early and bring your camera! Scott welcomed us on the boat immediately. He was very nice! The boat is quite large, so you'll be in a group with about 15 other people. The ride is about 2 hours long, so I recommend bringing snacks with you! Our group brought several bottles of champagne, wine, fruit, and chips & dip. The weather was a little chilly, but someone on Scott's staff gave us blankets to keep warm. Normally, I get very seasick, but I did not get seasick at all on this trip. The boat doesn't rock too much and it's more of an up and down movement rather than side to side. So for all you motion sickness people, you're in good hands! The cost is $25 and you pay when you get off the boat. Overall, this was great relaxing experience and I would recommend it to anyone in the Dallas area! read more

To be honest, I've never actually "sailed with Scott". However, I hear how great his cruises are and see him out there each time I take my own sailboat out. His catamaran is gorgeous, and I definitely want to take a cruise. The reason I'm writing this review is because while I haven't sailed on his boat, I know he is a great guy. I had a sail torn apart in a storm and didn't know where to turn in order to get a new one. Everyone I talked to said "ask Scott, he'll help you out". I wanted to go on a sunset cruise and sent an email to get help making a reservation as the page wouldn't load. No response. Then I tried calling and the man was rude, refused to answer questions (kept telling me to look on the site), and didn't try to get me excited about going at all. Also, he said they weren't doing the cruise I wanted, refused to discuss alternatives including upselling me, which would have been easy, but he just wanted me off the phone. I emailed again to let them know about my bad experience, and again, no response. Basically, they have ZERO customer service, and you better hope you don't have a question!! read more

This was my second ride with Sail with Scott. You cannot compare the experiences. My first experience was on the catamaran, and that experience was great! It was a good ride, great crew, and the ride was the right length. I would give that first trip four or five stars. My experience last night was on the party boat, and was called the Harbor Lights cruise. The boat was what you would expect for a party boat, except you could not hear the music. You could however hear the generator. The boat captain did not interact with the guests at all, but did interact with his wife and two kids he brought aboard. It was a very slow ride. The last was not their fault, but the mosquito's were horrible. Swarms. We were on top, but we had to go inside to avoid being eaten alive! I would give this ride a one or two stars. They average a three to be fair. If you go, ride the catamaran. You will love it. Pass on the party boat. read more

Scott built the Seawolf Catamaran which is both comfortable and stunningly beautiful. He is the consummate captain providing a safe and enjoyable experience. Ask him anything about the lake and it's surroundings and you'll learn some interesting things as well. You can even take a turn at the helm! The last thing I wanted to mention was Scott's crew of one. Her name is Jessie and she made everyone feel special.
