This is where I really am a firm believer that good vegan food makes you forget about meat (I am not even vegan or vegetarian). These are my faves we got: 1) Vegan Pho (5/5): The soup was amazing!! Very flavorful with umami goodness from the shiitake mushrooms. I loved the vegetarian meat balls they had in there which was very soft and perfectly seasoned. They also had tofu curds which were bouncy and soft to soak in all the flavorful soup. They used vermicelli noodles in their pho and it worked well! It also comes with vegan Vietnamese ham, onions, scallions, and cilantro. If you were to just choose one item this would be it! 2) Portobello Tenders (4.5/5): These were massive fried portobello mushrooms that came with a tangy, rich sauce. They were very meaty when biting in and the crisp from the panko on the outside was very thin and crispy! I would come back here again to eat vegan Vietnamese food. It all started with my coworker bringing me some egg rolls from Saigon Vegan and the rest is history....I am now a full on fan of Vietnamese vegan cuisine. The egg rolls from Saigon Vegan are excellent. They are hand rolled with taro, impossible beef, mung bean, mushrooms and glass noodle. I love how crisp these egg rolls are. They have the perfect crunch at first bite. The filling is so hearty and flavorful. The taro really stood out for me. I can say without a doubt that these egg rolls are on the top of my list of the best Vietnamese egg rolls I have ever tried. A few weeks after trying their egg rolls, my coworker brought me Saigon Vegan's garlic noodles to try. This was another delicious treat. I loved the yellow stir fried noodles topped with vegan beef strips, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu and a sprinkles of Parmesan. I was impressed with how all the ingredients came together. The noodles were rich and satisfying. I loved both the egg rolls and the garlics noodles from here, and now I am so excited to try out their other dishes. This is true of Saigon Vegan (meat substitutes made in-house). Even if you are not a vegan/vegetarian, you never miss the 'meat' experience. We lean towards the Lo Mein ( better that most non- vegan/vegetarian versions), the French influenced 'meatball beef' stew with carrot and potato - so tasty that you have to 'clean' the bowl with your french bread side, and the breaded mushrooms (legendary) - if you know, you know. I have a personal obsession for their Bah Mi sandwich as well. Its not traditional as its made with thinly sliced 'deli meat' - again, more French influenced. I ordered the pho ap chao, which was a little bland but the vegan chicken was very good and had a satisfying texture. The green Thai tea is very similar to seaside's except it's slightly less sweet. Tea is fragrant and floral. This is a mom and pop shop, so the wait can be a little long but please be patient! A slight wait is a small trade off for good food at such good prices. When I called to report this massive health violation, he was the snarkiest, most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. He actually had the nerve to tell me it was "impossible" because his employees package the food. The best part? In his desperate attempt to defend himself, he let it slip that they have an exterminator come EVERY MONTH. If your restaurant is clean and pest-free, why do you need a monthly exterminator on speed dial? Tony's arrogance and complete lack of accountability for a blatant biohazard is dangerous. This isn't just a "mistake", it's a sign of a deep-seated infestation and a business owner who clearly doesn't care about the safety or health of his customers. I have photos of the roach and will be reporting this location to the Orange County Health Care Agency (Environmental Health) immediately. My partner and I came in one evening (Friday around 5pm) to grab some dinner since we were in the area visiting some temples and the Asian Garden Mall to buy myself an ao dai. Bun Bo Hue: I love Bun Bo Hue, so I always try it any chance I get whenever I see it on the menu. They mentioned that this was their most popular dish so I had to try it. Very hard to go wrong with any of their dishes, from their deep fried portobello mushrooms to their Bahn Mi to their Garlic Noodles or any of their veggies or soups. Maybe it was because I ordered on Postmates but it's very fast food quality. The veggies seemed cooked fresh but the mains seem too heavy on oil. In fact, we were 1 of 3 patrons. The owner/server is nice and quickly brought us the menu along with a glass of water. The menu is solid -- offering standard rice & noodles dishes, along with banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich with mock meat) with a fusion twist. We tried the noodle soup (4/5) and barely had any noodle. We also ordered "seafood" flat noodles (3/5). I was hugely disappointed that it the sauce with heavy cornstarch was over the top. I've tried their egg rolls, portobello tenders, and many of their noodle soup dishes and I love them all so much!! I think C4, C5, and C6 is my favorite!!!
