I initially had only had a Banh-mi sandwich back when I wrote my first review: "Finally! A great Vietnamese BANH MI sandwich place in Victoria! Right across the parking lot from the SilverCity movie theatre at Tillicum Mall, this place has some very quick service--we had 30 minutes before our movie and we were finished with time to spare." We have been back more times and it has become my personal favourite Vietnamese place. I have a not-so-secret love for vermicelli dishes, and have greatly enjoyed the vermicelli, pork/chicken/beef/etc. and FABULOUS springroll dish (item 6c). Great food. Great prices. Speedy, friendly service. I keep trying new things whenever I'm there and I'm not normally that experimental when it comes to food but everything I've had there so far has been great. I mean really good. I couldn't come up with a better name than Saigon Char-broil either as that really describes the flavour of the chicken for me, like it was made on a bbq with tons of flavour. I get weirded out by chicken being low quality in many restaurants but it is always good here. I think I've even been served by the owner once and she was spectacular. Obviously cares about her business and has a great personality where you feel like you are being served by a friend. I like that. I also ate at the other location at Hillside mall on the weekend and had the crispy noodles which were great too but this tillicum location is my fave because it is a nice quiet restaurant and not a food fair. Great job Saigon Char-broil. I'll keep coming back. read more

My wife and I come here every time we go to the theater in the same mall. We love their tofu noodle soup. Large bowls with lots of vegetables and generous amounts of tofu. It's available with chicken stock or vegetable stock, just tell your server what you prefer. Excellent service and very friendly with good prices. read more

After reading several reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor, we thought we would try it out. We're big fans of viet subs, especially after enjoying many in Vancouver, and we've been craving delicious carby goodness that a banh mi is. We stopped by before a movie around 8:15 pm. I ordered a tofu sub and my husband ordered a pork sub. We also ordered a prawn salad roll as an appie. Food came quickly. The subs were definitely different from what we were used to and unfortunately not a good different. There was a mysterious paste in them and the soggy onions and French bread didnt add to its flavour. Hoping the salad rolls would be better, we eagerly reached for those but again, were disappointed by the lack of flavour. We can honestly say we've had better viet subs at Safeway and better salad rolls at T&T. For the combined price of $28 for 2 subs and 2 salad rolls, we hoped for better. I would rather write good reviews over bad ones but, I wouldn't eat here again so it's worthwhile writing. Eat at A&W if you want to grab something to eat before a movie. read more

I had the rare beef, brisket and beef balls king size pho. It was the best pho I've had to date in the greater Victoria area ( had 3-4) other places around. The broth is very flavourful and the noodles are nicely cooked with plenty of pieces of meat of all variations present. The presentation was good with a plate full of fresh bean sprouts, basil and jalapeños on the side (which I love but find hard to find in Victoria) If you like pho you should definitely try this place, a very nice restaurant with great pho and reasonably priced. read more

This was quite good I tried the spring roll and the charbroiled beef. The spring roll had good flavour the roll was a bit over cooked and a little dry. The charbroiled beef was a bit over cooked as well. The service is down the middle. For a place to eat in a mall this a step in the right direction. Stumbled onto Saigon Char-Broil by accident, on our way to a movie. Was pleasantly surprised! From amazing attentive and friendly service, to a couple of great dishes, we're happy to recommend. Great tofu, veg, noodle and peanut sauce as well as Bún ch garlic pork, spring rolls and lemongrass vermicelli. Look forward to next visit. Maybe even take out. read more

This place had mega fast and friendly service, is licensed, and clean. Great spot for kids as well. Was concerned when I saw it was at the mall, but don't worry-it's not in a big rowdy food court, it's all by itself in a corner by the theatre with tons of parking. We loved this place, the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. I had a Beef Pho, my wife had salad rolls, and my daughter ordered the best thing (we've found so far)... Menu Item #36 which had a little bit of everything, lots of char-broiled meat with broth and noodles. We came back another day to get some excellent char-broiled subs to take out for our picnic lunch. Delicious! read more

Sliced beef Pho had about 30 percent slices of pure fat, and the grilled pork in the bún was very tasty, but quite fatty as well. The Pho was so-so. The rice dish with beef was delicious and filling. The spring rolls were crispy and tasty. The biggest complaint was the service. It was only 6pm, yet we felt rushed. The server immediately asked for our drink order upon giving us our menu. We said we needed time. She came back 1 minute later. We still didn't know. Then she started prompting us with suggestions, so we just ordered without looking at the menu. We asked her to bring our spring rolls as an appetizer before our meal. She brought them out and then went right back and got our entrees! So annoying!! Would have had a better experience if we wouldn't have felt rushed. If they want to be fast-food, then have a take-out counter only. read more

I chose this place due to its location at Tillicum mall, closr to the theatres. The decor is warm and inviting despite having both street access from outside the mall and an inner entrance. Service was quick. I ordered a regular rare beef pho soup. The side plate of additional garnishes was meager with just a small handful of bean sprouts, some cilantro, one tiny thai pepper and a lime wedge. I was disappointed that there was no fresh basil. My initial taste of the soup found the broth to be excessively salty, whether from too heavy a dose of fish sauce or something else, I cannot say. The amount of rice noodles was just adequate and not comparable to other pho soups in the city. The beef was tender and great tasting. In the end, I left most of the liquid soup behind due its over saltiness, which I have never done before. The place has potential, but their Pho soup needs a lot of work. read more
