For the most part, this place was ok. However for a Vietnamese person ... i did not find it authentic! Today i ordered the family dinner rice with Vietnanese sour soup (canh chua) and clay pot braised fish (Cá Kho Tộ). I am new to the island so my taste buds may be different ... but the type of fish is not right ... it should be catfish and the sour soup has cabbage which is not authentic. Authentic canh chua has elephant ear stalk, okra, cellery, pineapple, tomatoes, sprouts, rice paddy herbs, tamarin, fish or shrimp. For authentic... i may have to make at home.

Not a veggie fan but their veggies are so fresh not to enjoy them. This place quickly became a favorite.

My Airbnb host recommended this spot as the best Vietnamese place in Victoria, so my friend and I decided to check it out. We came on a Sunday, a little before 6 pm, and the restaurant was half full. We were seated immediately. My friend is vegetarian, which is one of the things that drew us to this place. I saw on Yelp that there's a special vegetarian section on their menu. To start, we ordered the #70 veggie spring rolls ($6.95) to share. I was torn between whether to get pho or a rice plate, but ultimately went with #40 wonton egg noodle soup with seafood ($12.75). We got the veggie spring rolls first, and unfortunately neither my friend nor I liked them. I thought it was impossible to really mess up spring rolls, but somehow they managed to do that here. They used some kind of potato-like starch (maybe taro?) as the primary filling, and it just had such a weird texture as I was chewing. I would not recommend getting the veggie spring rolls here, though maybe the normal ones are better. My wonton noodle soup was okay. It came with four wontons and an assortment of squid, fish cake, and shrimp. There was also a generous amount of vegetables, primarily broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. My main problem with this dish was the noodles, which clumped together like they hadn't been cooked properly. The wontons were fine, though more garlicky than I would have expected, and the only problem I had with the seafood was that the squid was too chewy. My friend tried to order one of their veggie egg noodle stir fries, but was told that they were already out of the egg noodles. Keep in mind this was around 6, which is still fairly early for dinner. We were pretty surprised. He ended up going with a crispy noodle stir-fry instead, which was not that good.

snobby service / where are the smiles at? / never ever seen this type of rude, unprofessional, b*tchy service in my life - the young girl rolled her eyes when we asked nicely for the bill - (that's how you acknowledge Customers? WTF we do to you , we gave you a goddamn business!) No need to support this kind of vibe that showed to your face that they don't need our business decent Food for the area That's why i gave it 1.5 and not 1. family friendly lots of parking overpriced for quality and quantity if I had to choose 1 dish: #34 banh tam bi would i go back? Definitely never

Number 54. The grilled lemongrass chicken, shredded pork and fried egg One of my favourite meals here at green leaf and it NEVER fails me! I've been eating this dish for years and cannot stop talking about the way they make their chicken. It has the taste of authentic Vietnam, charred to perfection. The hints of lemon grass are beautiful, presentation is impeccable. I've been to 2 locations and the fried egg is the only inconsistency. At the goldstream location it is an actual fried egg, at the blanshard location it is served as an egg cake. Both still good, different sort of taste though. They could provide a little more of the nuoc mum (fish sauce) but, nothing to fret about, we asked for more and they were happy to provide it free of charge. The service was excellent, and very pleasant. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone who loves a good hearty plate!

    Nuff said!

Felt great & got stuffed! Was totally yummers. My eating partners really enjoyed the pho... I even heard them say "Better than the downtown spot" great going guys!

#26. Beef pho with sliced rare beef, brisket, tendon, & tripe

I've been here several times and although the food is great, the service lacks a bit. Slower service where you'll unfortunately end up having to track a wait staff down to make any requests, including putting in your order, paying the bill, etc. They've got their water and green tea on the side of their front desk, so I think the trend here definitely leans towards self-serve. In terms of environment, this is a great place to dine in. They've got tons of seating available with great bamboo decor. As for pricing, this has gone up to an average of $13 each for a large pho/vermicelli/rice plates. Not as affordable as before, and it's a shame they charge for extra fish sauce at these prices. In comparison to the downtown location, I definitely prefer it there to here!

Almost done our delicious meal !

Solid pho location at downtown Victoria. We were dining with locals and it was their first time…read moretrying Pho Tru and they said that the pho was much better than the pho places they have tried in the area. Better than Pho Boi nearby. Broth is deep, delicious and not too sweet or salty. Small area inside with a few tables. Walk up to the counter to order and pay first. Then wait at a table for your food to arrive. You can grab water at a water station at the corner (cold water). Service was polite & efficient and they got us everything we needed. Table centerpieces were not fully refilled so we had to grab some napkins/chili, etc from another nearby table. Did not taste the rice dishes, but the family enjoyed the pho that they had, even my mom's vegetarian pho. Pho broth is delicious and approved!

Review Template ===…read more1. VERDICT/VALUE Sure, there are a lot of choices for decent Vietnamese food in town - but with good eats, good service, decent prices, it's easy to recommend Pho Tru to family and friends! === 2. FOOD Summer Rolls ($10) Two come at this price and they're done well. We may debate about the peanut sauce (I prefer the lighter-coloured, less bitter one) but this is a good snack or happy all-year round. Fish Tacos ($8) They were out of fish today but we got it with the recommended grilled pork instead - and that was a great decision! The pork was not too thin yet tender and flavourful. It works out to be $4 per taco but the good meat with crisp fresh veggies make the price of admission worth it. Pho #19 ($17) It's basically a house special: all of the meats - and with flavourful soup and a healthy portion of noodles, it's a great choice! Pork Vermicelli ($16.25) A great option for those that don't want any soup splashing around: good portion of fresh veggies mixed with noodles and pork that's thicker than what was included in the tacos, but still tender and flavourful. === 3. SERVICE The service is stellar: the same man who greets you, takes your order, serves your order and ensures all is well before the cheery greeting upon departure is the one making the experience worth the trip! It's relatively busy with dine-in patrons and food app/takeout orders, but the speed of service to the counter did not disappoint. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's a little older looking, but it's simple, clean, and effective. Windows on the street side let in a good amount of daylight for tables of up to 8 when all of the two- and four-tops are combined. Once you get past the front door (not automatic/mechanically openable), wheelchairs and baby strollers should fit with some ease. Parking is all street based, which is paid up until 8:00 pm each night.

VERDICT/VALUE Not the cheapest place for Vietnamese food, but it could be considered a little more authentic than some of the nearby competition - 3.5 stars! === 2. FOOD Sugarcane Shrimp, Grilled Pork Combo ($23): It's a bun - a vermicelli bowl with shrimp mousse wrapped in sugarcane and grilled pork with a spring roll. I might skip the shrimp next time given the cost... Prawn Salad Rolls ($12): Pricey - but decent and relatively authentic; peanut sauce is chilled (if that's important to note, as some places serve it much warmer). Meatballs Pho (Large - $19): My little guy likes noodles and meatballs - this is the Vietnamese version of the Italian classic we all know :) === 3. SERVICE We were lucky - unlike some of our fellow Yelpers, we came in about 40 mins before closing time and were seated quickly and served quickly. We never felt like they were trying to hustle us out of there and the server was polite and professional. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It was a little dim with daylight running out; I assume it's fairly dim at night as I don't recall much lighting. It appears to be an older place (built in the 80's or 90's?) but relatively clean and comfortable. You could fit wheelchairs and baby strollers in here as well as groups large and small. Parking is interesting: metered parking on the street or a parking garage would be your only options.
