Called this am and was told to come in. Arrived about 9:10am and the man who owns the shop or runs it greeted me and told me to have a seat. At 930am the lady dyed my roots and then told me to move to the nail chair where I would get my nail color changed while I waited for my hair. Mass confusion in there and then the owner man walked by me and I asked him how much longer for my hair because the lady didn't tell me. He went into this whole thing raised his voice and got defensive and started with the "I've been in business over 20 years we know what we are doing here". The whole time I'm trying to tell him I just wanted to know what time to wash my hair out because I am on a time crunch. He wouldn't let me talk and kept yelling. Then out of the back comes the guys sister who I think is part owner too and she slames the timer down in front of me and walks off. What kind of service is this! I held my tongue the entire time until I had to pay and they tried to over charge me from the nail color changed $20 instead of $12 and then tried to charge me $25 for drying my hair. Now I know why this business has so many bad reviews. Only thing good I can say is the lady who washed my hair out and dried it was very sweet and yes i did tip her. Never again. When you show them a design, they complain or tell you to choose something else because they don't like to do simple designs, only long and designed nails. ZERO RATING I had a manicure with the girl who sits closest to the main desk last week. A fill and gel nails She was OBVIOUSLY in a hurry as she did NOT grind away all of my last colour...a very sparkly pink. I asked her about this when I noticed she was starting with the acrylic but she mumbled something. 2days later the old colour started coming through. 3 days later and the gel polish all chipped. She did NOT clean under my fingernails or cover the ends so it's all peeling there too. My cuticles are rough and broken at the tops of my thumbs. Be careful as they also pretend to not understand you. and will keep you there as long as possible. It's now been 6 days and I'll have to go elsewhere to get it fixed. My 3rd try here. I just want to warn anyone planning to go to this salon, DON'T DO IT. Yesterday I did. Big mistake. Catalina- a Mexican woman that spoke no English - ruined my hair. I showed her a picture of the style I wanted but what I got was awful. Nothing like the picture. I mean awful. The salon owner of manager tried to fix it. She didn't do any better. Absolutely my worse hair-butchering experience ever! I was very upset, felt violated, and extremely disappointed. Took me a week to calm down enough to write this review. I requested for Robert bc he cut my daughter's hair last year and it turned out well. He asked what I wanted. Told him 2 inches off the bottom, bangs above my eyebrow and a face frame. No shampoo, guess I was supposed to request for that. He sprayed water from a spray bottle on to my hair and started butchering. I saw long pieces of my hair fell to the floor and thought, "Oh Sh*t!" But hey he's been cutting hair since the age of 14, is now 57 and been working at Saigon Beauty Salon for 10 yrs. He's a pro so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I tipped well thinking it'll be better after a hair wash at home. Nope! I saw how bad it was and cried. He took off 5-6 inches based on the few strands left long that he didn't cut off! It's lopsided and uneven!! My husband said the beauty school does a better job. The next morning I cried again. I went to another salon 5 days later trying to fix the problem. It will take about 2 months to make my lemonade. Overall impression: mgr/co-owner/cashier is rude and pushy. I went in again after moving back to Albuquerque. My hairdresser did not speak English and I am only partially fluent in Spanish. Why do I need to speak Spanish anyway? Highlights were done in the wrong color and as I tried to ask how the color was coming out, she only shrugged her shoulders and nodded her head. Well, as I expected the color was all wrong and i am stuck with it. When asked by the owner how I liked it, I said it's not the color I showed on the picture. No acknowledgment. Good selection of colors, fair prices, and polite staff. As with most such salons, it's on again/off again. It seems the wait can be inconsistent. This time we sat in the pedi chair for about 20 minutes before the tech came around (and that was having made an appointment), but the last time was hardly a wait at all. My pedi tech was curt, though nice, and asked repeatedly if the work was good. But the callous buffing was rough! I think that could be owing to being busy (ergo the 20 min wait). Weirdness: we were required to leave a yelp review before they'd redeem the 20% check-in discount.. feels a little dirty. Like a conflict of interest. The only reason I came into this salon was to kill time bc I had just gotten my eyes dilated at my vision clinic across the street so I couldn't drive for an hour. So I decided to treat myself to a pedicure. I specifically opted for a BASIC pedi at $35, with REGULAR nail polish, as indicated on their menu. (I hate gel polish bc it destroys the nail, makes it all brittle and nasty). So I was shocked to get charged an additional $10. They said it was bc I added gel polish to the service which just seemed fishy at the time. According to their side of the story I had allegedly picked out a "gel color" from the nail sample ring, unbeknownst to me that it was the gel polish selection I was being shown. Whenever I had gotten a pedi in the past at other salons the technician always asked up front if I want gel and I always politely decline. There's no way in hell I would've consented to a gel polish. Never was gel polish mentioned when I opted for the basic regular polish option. At the time I honestly felt that they were trying to swindle me, charging an extra $10. I argued with the owner and he insisted that I chose gel, even implying that I knew it was gel bc the nail tech used that fancy nail drying box, which according to the owner is only used for gel? (I had no prior knowledge that drying boxes were for used exclusively for gel). I refused to pay an additional $10 for service I didn't consent to. The owner's wife then came over to try smooth things over but quickly agreed to drop the $10 bc it was clear that I wasn't having their story. In my hyper paranoid state it really made me wonder how many times they have tried to pull that trick and particularly on a Caucasian (hate that word btw) customer like myself, assuming I'm made of money so an extra 10 bucks is no biggie right??? Not to get all deep on a yelp review, but this experience triggered very deep trauma in me of being ripped off in the past. That negative energy I was feeling must've attracted bad luck bc shortly after I left the salon I noticed my wallet was missing. I realize now that it was just the universe telling me to chill the F out. So here's what happened: I called the salon asking if I left the wallet on the counter, and the owner was quick to say no but in my frazzled headspace I decided to head back there anyway to look him in the eye for any sign of deception. In vain I jumped to the conclusion that they somehow jacked my wallet when I wasn't looking. So I confronted the owner face to face in a completely infantile frenzy, demanding he give me back the wallet. In my paranoid mind they were holding onto the wallet out of spite for my getting free gel polish, even threatening to call the police. I don't know what possessed me today, it was like an evil demon slipped into my body and unleashed its wrath. I am truly embarrassed and ashamed for my behavior and if going back in time was an option I would've kept my cool. I take full responsibility for my shameful behavior and apologize for the false accusation. I made a mistake, and felt like shit about it afterwards bc it turned out my wallet somehow got stuck in a crack in the car. I felt the need to seek atonement and clear my karma so I called the salon one last time to apologize. Much to my surprise the owner was cool about it, saying he was glad I found my wallet after all and to my shock even invited me to come back! Nonetheless he said I hurt his feelings and for this reason I am writing this lengthy review with the hope that he will understand how truly sorry I am and that I deeply regret the way I handled the situation. I humbly offer my sincere apology. Maybe the whole gel thing was just a colossal misunderstanding. I should really learn to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than jump to drastic conclusions. But then again we never know what darkness lurks in the heart of man do we... I guess I'm mostly just annoyed bc I'm now stuck with gel which takes forever to scrape off completely, not to mention the potential damage it's gonna do chemical-wise to my nails On a more positive note.. By no means do I discredit the service itself from this salon. The gentleman who did my nails was very polite and professional. He did an excellent job and, despite it being the gel polish I didn't ask for, the pedi was awesome otherwise! I congratulate you the reader for making it all the way to the end! Moral of the story: make sure you clearly establish the exact service you're looking for, as well as the pricing at that. A learning experience for all parties involved, right? Brought my daughter here to have some of her hair dyed pink. Had this service done Tuesday April 16th. By Thursday, April 18th the dye was already coming out and her hair was damaged right where the pink started on her hair. It Must have been processed too long. When calling to tell them about it, the front desk guy was very pushy and said just being her in and we will fix it. He didn't allow me to talk. So my husband took her back and they realized they needed to cut her hair almost up to where the damage was done, @4inches. They did offer to color it again at that time. Sooo this place is a hit or miss. I am going to share today's experience and some previous but recent experiences. It's been around for years and my 1st visit was when I was 10 years old. I am 26. I always end up coming back one way or another and for a few reasons. I've had my hair done, mani/pedi and eyebrows done. If you get your eyebrows waxed, this is the best place to get them done. My eyebrows always look stunnin and well shaped. However, it makes me nervous that the waxers have to comment on their customer's skin...."Yes, I think I know that I have a huge zit on my forehead" lol!! As for hair, I've had my hair done by Kevin, Robert and some other woman. Kevin did great. I loved Robert. My highlights were amazing and he has such a great personality. The woman who did my hair ...she did a blonde ombre and kept me under the dryer for too long. She was also doing 2 other peoples hair at the same time. I have soo much hair I remember staying at the salon after hours. I wasn't pleased with that. Today, I had a nail emergency and could not go to my regular nail tech. I decided to get a French Manicure. I like my nails. I am not in love but I like them. The gentlemen took his time shaping and drilling them. He was a little rough with the drill & my nails kind of hurt now but I knew he just wanted them to look good. I haven't had a French mani in such a long time and I think the white tips are too thick. I have definitely experienced better than what I have experienced here tonight. The lady who did my pedicure was very nice, but my design was borderline ugly. She did a great job trimming and cleaning up my nails, but the design was so disappointing. She messed up twice and had to remove the polish and repaint it, but if I would have just got a plain old nail job it would have been nice. They accommodated us nicely by taking us after they closed, but I feel they may have rushed the whole process. They also offered us beverages, but never brought them out. My mom also got a pedicure and her experience was far worse than mine... She told the lady twice that she was hurting her when she was trimming her cuticles. Then she requested a new person to do her nails; however, the lady ignored her and continued working and she started using the grater on her feet, and I saw my mom jump a bit and I looked down and her foot was bleeding into the water! The lady immediately started to rinse it and applied a band-aid that didn't even stick! My mom requested alcohol spray and she sprayed my mom's foot and ripped the band-aid off and put on a new one. Looks like they're prone to pulling a bait and switch...especially if look like you have more money than the average person in that shady neighborhood. Had an appointment for root touch up ($55) w/hair cut ($20). Decided to do my nails there too. Nail tech upsold me to a $35 pedicure pretty quick, which she half-a**d. Seeing how careless, quick and unsanitary it was, I opted out of the manicure. I also opted out of the hair cut bc the hair tech didn't even bother brushing my wet hair before trying to cut it. No way it would have ended up decent. I encountered an old lady who said she came back from a previous appointment to fix a botch hair job. Anyhow, I got the bill from them for $200, root touch up and pedicure, that's it. I know that salons are not free. I go regularly but this seemed a bit much, way more than I regularly pay at higher end salons. They refused to explain their prices and none of the prices coincided with what was listed on their price sheet and what I thought I had agreed to prior to the work being done. It seemed like a substantial overcharge on their part and they wouldn't refund or explain any of it. It took me several tries to even get a receipt. They refused to provide the license number of the hair tech, so that I could file a formal complaint. I think they even charged me for services they didn't perform. When it was obvious that I was upset about getting ripped off, and I confronted them about it, they laughted at me and told me to "call [my lawyer]", or the police. I did file a report with the nm cosmetology board and also the bbb. Price gouging. Unsanitary. Lack of transparency. Pushy upsell. Incomplete service. Emotionally abusive towards customers. Needless to say, won't be coming back here. Should have saved my money and did my hair myself. read more

I can't even start I'm crying so hard. First I was scared because of the bad reviews, but with Covid and all I just went after 6 months without doing my hair. I must be very unlucky. I've got almost no hair, very very very thin hair and very little. Like so little, majority of people can't even understand. I take medicine and use medicine shampoo for my hair to grow. This bitch. And I told her. I use medicine for my hair. Her name is Thu (two), she wanted to do layers on my fucking thin non existent few hair, I told her no layers my hair is so fucking little and thin if you do layers it just breaks and looks awful. Ok. She didn't layer, but she did "feather".(fucked my hair). I did highlight, which is hard to do on my hair. Usually it doesn't take more than 40 minutes with the product for highlights on my hair to be done. She left me for f...ing 2 hours! First because she was pushing me to do other services, pedi, mani ... and I did, but she had another customer and I waited and waited with f... ing chemicals on my very very very thin hair. So, that was Thursday. I've washed my hair twice since, today is Monday. When I wash my hair pieces of it just detach and I got hand half full of my hair just falling. I had myself to cut almost 10 CM of my hair so it stops. She DESTROYED my hair. Maybe they are only used to do their type of hair. Not Europeans super thin, delicate hair. It's probably my fault. They are open seven days a week. I have been a loyal customer since the Year of the Horse 2014. Most decidedly, visiting Saigon Beauty Salon is a multi-cultural odyssey. A Chinese-Vietnamese beauty named Judy is my barber; she hails from the Mekong Delta region of southern Viet Nam. Gentle Judy is a first-class cosmetologist and a consummate professional. A nail technician named Thi (pronounced TEE) does my pedicures. The fetching and talented Thi hails from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) ~ Viet Nam's largest metropolis and the namesake of this establishment. Various cosmetologists ~ such as Judy, Theresa, Thuy (pronounced TWEE), and Polly (Dave's wife) ~ have expertly waxed my back in recent years. When the lady waiting took her turn with another wax technician, my sister and I sat in the two empty seats next to the purse. 5 minutes later the wax tech turned and looked at us and then asked the lady if she wanted her purse as if to note that it was no longer safe in the seat since the White lady, also a stranger was no longer sitting there. I went in and was assigned to Robert, he butchered my hair, and when he bleaching it, it didn't take, he was using a wet hand towel to wipe off the bleach inside each foiled piece, and applying my color. I selected one color, and he did another color of his choice, telling me that the color I picked wasn't good for me. He complained about everything around him, the Salon, other Stylist, and the owners. End results were, my color didn't take.... So he took off the foil, dried my hair and tried to re-weave my hair and reapply the foil in my hair, in other wards he was TRYING. He put me under a dryer for over an hour with the bleach the second time around. The color I paid for lasted two shampoos. No evidence of color in my hair. Just blond stripes like a tiger. No high lights, no low lights, I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. This salon lacks professionalism in every way. Too much drama in this salon. read more

I felt like I was a cheap product being produced on a factory line in this salon... I went with my friend to get her hair dyed. While I was waiting I decided to get a Gel Manicure. The women who did my nails did seem nice at some points but I didn't enjoy this manicure at all. My nails had dirt underneath them. She kept making faces of disgust while scraping the dirt from underneath my nails while cleaning them. Then at one point while cleaning my nails she made a point to show me the filth under my nails. Yes I already knew my nails had filth underneath them, there should have been no point where she pointed out her disgust about it. Then immediately after she cleaned my nails, she began speaking vietnamese to someone behind her and then pointed to me. Kind of rude to point if you're going to talk about someone right in front of their face about them. Then came the part when she started the actual manicure. She began removing excess skin and trimming the sides of my nails. She was very rough which made it very painful. She then clipped one of the sides of my nails too far and ripped it! I started to bleed! This has never happened to me before at a salon. She put the gel polish one pretty fast and did a mediocre job. I have a gel kit at home and can do a better job than she did. I just hate all the time it takes on my own. Once she finished my gel polish she started doing designs that I didn't ask for. I thought she might have been trying to redeem herself from the terrible manicure. But no....she charged me $5 for designs I didn't even want. I don't even want to include the issues I had with the way they treated my friend while they were doing her hair. I started going here based on the recommendation of my mother. She'd meet me for coffee showing off her edgy, ultra-precise new haircuts, and after awhile I had to see who was behind these masterful creations. My mom swore by Lynn, as did many of her co-workers, so without hesitation I made an appointment. She listened carefully to my vision, made use of my provided reference photos, and ended up giving me the most precise, clean bangs/cut ever. Hollywood-stylist level precision here. She did my hair for my MadMen themed party -- which I will post a photo of when I can find one -- and boy, is she incredible at updos (the provided photo is one that she improvised when I gave her full reign recently). I get buckets of compliments every time I leave there. I trust her completely and also, she's super sweet! Another honorable mention is Robert. He's great at color and kids cuts (made my nephew look like a million bucks), in addition to styling. Everyone that's done my waxing has been fast and thorough. I'd recommend Lynn for that, too. Unfortunately, and I'm really sad to say, I haven't had good experiences with their nail techs and won't get a mani-pedi here again. Rough, rushed, sloppy, and overall --not very professional.
