My cousin and I went here yesterday, shopping for a bridal lehenga and wedding party outfits. I'd read the bad reviews & had even mentioned them to my cousin, but said we should give them a try anyway, because we were walking past and the original lehenga I'd wanted to buy was on their website. We didn't make it past the immediate entrance. A couple entered behind us, that we'd just encountered in a previous store. The woman that worked in the store, asked if we were together. We immediately said no. She asked again. We repeated, no. She walked past us and went to the Indian couple and asked them what they needed. It was blatantly racist. I was flabbergasted. The sales woman then dismissively says to us, "You can look around" as if she was doing us a favor! I looked at my cousin, turned around, and we left. Do NOT waste your time giving this place the benefit of the doubt. It's already overpriced. To have racism and rudeness on autopilot is absurd. I'm not sure how they stay open. The store was void of customers until we walked in, so there was no excuse about anyone being busy. I'll never go here or recommend anyone to go here again. This is incredibly problematic to say the least. Clearly they are racist against South Asians and prefer non-South Asian clientele. Awful, awful. Absolutely the worst service I've ever encountered. I came to sahil with the intention to try on and potentially purchase an outfit for my wedding reception. However, from the moment I entered we encountered negativity and attitude. First of all the incredibly rude woman who was 'helping' bridal customers said I could only try on 2 outfits. Why you ask? Because they are incredibly lazy and don't want to fold and rehang the dresses after people try them on. They also don't allow photographs. Why would any bride make a 2500+ purchase without having photographs to reference? These people clearly don't care about their customers or making a sale. Terrible customer service. I asked to see lehengas for my engagement. I was initially shown some very old school/ out of fashion lehengas. Then I picked out two that were a bit more decked out. While I was in the fitting room the owner comes upstairs and asks the worker "why she gave me such expensive lehenga to try on". The owner then starts yelling at the worker and the worker starts knocking on the fitting room door to open up. She wanted to take the "expensive" lehengas back. I went here looking for an outfit for my friends engagement (all my Indian clothes are at home and had none in Chicago with me). This place had so many different options and so many different designs. I found a perfect outfit that was only $150 and it was so nice. I needed the blouse to be fitted and the tailor was able to do everything in 45 mins. The staff was very nice and I even bought bangles and earrings to match my outfit. My friend took me here to buy a lehenga choli for our dance performance. At first glance, everything that we liked was priced way above our budget. Most of the items that we wanted to try, started at $300. Gulp!!! Luckily, my friend is a great negotiator and got the price down to something a bit more reasonable. Alterations were also discounted for us. I'm not sure what they normally go for. Service was not really friendly at first, but I'm not sure if that is a cultural thing - me being a "foreigner" in their eyes. Eventually, the girl who was helping us warmed up. The service here is amazing! I came in looking for two outfits for my friend's wedding and henna party. I walked in completely clueless. Shahana was soo helpful and I'm completely greatful. She dressed a saree for me, added bangles and a jewelry set to complete my look. Sahil carries a wide variety of dresses for all your needs. This is the nicest looking Indian store on Devon. Customer service sucks. They push you so hard to buy. The sales guy who was helping me, named Salim, was not that bad. However, the sales lady who was helping my fiancee was rude. Why does customer service in these types of Desi stores suck so bad? We entered this store in search of a party wear. We could not find any reasonably priced lehgna cholis here. We did end up buying a sherwani. They have a beautiful collection of Indo Western sherwanis. Do not pay for the price they ask you for. Salim asked $1300 for the one we bought but we bargained until the price dropped to $600. Big time cheaters! They do accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Cash and Checks. They also do out of state shipments to avoid the high Chicago sales tax. The girl at the register has a big attitude problem as well. read more

His apology appeared sincere and he did say he tried to find out who it was and I really appreciated his message. My first time on Devon Ave. I went specifically for bridal wear. Man, was it the worst experience I had. Thankfully I don't take things too personal. Sahil. Smh (shaking my head). There were a couple of ladies that were pleasant. The one I was with was...well. Let me explain. Tried on the first lengha choli and it was really nice but just didn't like it on me. I wanted to try on other dresses and she says to me, "It's not going to fit you. You probably shouldn't try on any others." (There was another customer who I think she was more interested in so she was trying to get rid of me). Knowing that she was trying to get rid of me I decided that I was going to stick around even though I definitely was not going to buy anything from her. Just because. So I tried on quite a few others and she was so rude. My wedding is soon and on short notice and the other bride that was there was in June of next year. So my little brown friend would make comments like, "See. She is starting now. Why didn't you do the same?" And she'd make faces or shake her head. Very impatient. Not professional. It was a really BAD experience. I don't think I've had that kind of experience in a long time! My thoughts on why: I am American born Indian and didn't have any other family or friends with me other than my fiancé. Who is American. I am not the typical Indian size. Shame on you for making a bride feel VERY insignificant. And I'm talking to the one who I was with. A word: If I am planning on spending a few thousand dollars on a dress, I expect superb customer service. A smile always. Patience. Don't brush me off. Don't talk about my weight or my size. I don't usually write reviews but I couldn't resist writing this one! I don't even know where to begin! Everyone is so helpful and full of energy! They also have a great selection of clothes that are way better quality than many of the other stores on Devon. Shout out to Gita aunty, Sukhi and Jia for being so patient and kind to us when we were there for hours on end. I can't recommend this store enough. Horrible customer service. The whole staff has an attitude problem (on more than one occasion). They ignored me on several occasions because the whole staff, yes whole, was helping someone who was spending (their assumption) more money than me and my friend. Makes you want to take your money elsewhere. I also agree with the other posters that the clothing is overpriced and what's worse it's not even the best quality and even ratchet. You're better off shopping online and will get cheaper prices and less attitude. Not a pleasant experience. read more

Awful. Dropped off wife's Sari and blouse for adjustment far far ahead of time, confirmed date multiple times. Showed up on delivery day and they haven't even started working on it. Excuse was that they read the date wrong. Would not just give us a refund - stated that their 'computers were down'. After walking around Devon Street, I found that it was a breath of fresh air to walk into Sahil. Immediately you can tell the difference. The store is impeccably kept and very clean and organized. They have two levels and the upstairs has the more fancy of clothes. I'm not Indian, but the sari's here had a "wow" factor. The price also had a "wow" factor. I though the associates were really helpful and friendly and they even gave me and my friend bottled water because we were dying under the bright lights. As a filipino woman, I usually come in pretty clueless and Aunty Gita has done such a fabulous job of picking out saree's and lehenga's for me that are in fashion. I've gotten so many compliments on the outfits she's chosen. I'm extremely picky and indecisive, yet she was so patient and willing to have me try on different outfits (sometimes, the same outfit multiple times haha). Every single time I need to go anywhere, I drive to Devin and go to Sahil! I've always had excellent service and find great dresses! Kanta Aunty is the best, she always helps me out (whether it's finding something or with the fitting). She is so sweet, reminds me of family. Also the tailor, he does a great job. I came to Sahil back in December, very last minute. I picked out an outfit and it was too long and a little loose (this was a Sunday, needed outfit by Saturday). The tailor shortened the dress perfectly and it fit very well. It was ready by Thursday but I picked it up on Friday. I tell everyone to go to Sahil because they give great service at great prices. You know that scene in Pretty Woman when she tries to shop on Rodeo Drive and the shop assistants are horribly rude? Well, Sahil is the desi equivalent except you're not on Rodeo, you're in a cheaply decorated store that hasn't evolved since the 80s. If they're trying to appeal to millennial desis born and raised in the States, they are failing. If you're larger than a size 6, they will fat shame you. And if you're an American trying to shop here, they will try to RIP YOU OFF. Negotiate them down on everything, or better yet, get the heck outta there because the service is horrible. One woman trying to help us, Fatima, wouldn't let me try anything on because it "wasn't my size." They carry two sizes: extra small and small, so if you've hit puberty forget about shopping here. They don't carry a lot of inventory so they have to "customize" everything and jack up the price. I've been to their NJ store and found the service to be so so different - the ladies working there are sweet and generally leave you alone. Two women working the saree section were lovely, but Fatima was a real piece of work and should be fired if this store wants to stay in business. There was a certain tone in her voice and presentation that was incredibly rude. The best part of our time at Sahil was her calling over her manager and asking for our timeline for purchase and price range. We said we didn't care how much something was if we really loved it - he suggested some of the cheapest items in the store instead of showing us something more expensive, insinuating we didn't have money to spend there. Cue Richard Gere coming in to save the day - i.e. Raaz further up on Devon, which proved to be the savior of our trip to Devon. read more

I shopped around a lot on Devon looking for my bridal outfits to be customized. I found Taj sari to be completely useless trying to get any one to help you. Studio elite had a great selection and variety but their prices are way too high, their service was good. Beejees had excellent customer service but the prices were in the 4K range for average looking outfits. Sahil has excellent customer service from Fatima and Jia. We gave them our timelines for the wedding so they could figure out when they could get it customized by. You shouldn't expect to be able to walk out with the outfit if you walk into Sahil, sizes are generally limited to smaller sizes and most of their work is customizing so you'll need at least 2 months of time. I picked out a very unique light grey bridal outfit in gown style and then also customized my mehendi outfit using one of their designs. They both came out beautiful! There was a major hiccup with the bridal outfit as the tailor used a completely different color grey cloth and a cream colored net on top which looked drastically different from what I had ordered. They saw how upset, distraught, and completely heartbroken I was over the dress as my entire wedding preps had incorporated that light grey majestic color. So after a lot of deliberation and Fatima and Jia went out of their way to persuade them to get approval to redo the dress, they decided to remake the entire bridal outfit. This time they ordered swatches and had me choose the material colors and I couldn't have been happier with the new results. There's not a lot of places on Devon that will give you that kind of customer service. The dress took 3 months to make and the second one took an additional 2.5 months. With that said, it's a good idea to ask for swatches if they will be dying the material if you care a lot about the color so you will need to have at least 4-6 months just to ensure it's all done on time and how you want it. Thankfully I shopped really early. Also, I had originally intended to get my mehendi outfit made in Pakistan, but after seeing the progress photos I decided to cancel that order and ended up in Sahil for the mehendi outfit too! I changed the original outfit they had in sky blue and silver completely. I changed the color of the skirt to plum, top to teal and dupatta to orange and we even changed the silver embroidery to all gold. It looked like a completely different outfit! Your experience with desi clothes shopping won't always be perfect, but it's great customer service like at Sahil that will make you want to come back. I would most definitely go again! Don't let the negative reviews dissuade you, you need to make it known that you know what you want and what your timeline is. If you can't answer these basic questions than it's difficult for them to figure out if they can get it made in time or not which makes it hard for them to help you in general. read more

If I could give this a negative star I would. They passed me and my mom around to 3 different employees because we weren't buying really expensive items and the lady was really rude and implying that I'm overweight when in reality I'm not at all. It's not my fault that Indian measurements are disproportionate and they love the body of a 12 year old girl. We left after the female employee was showing us hideous designs after I specifically told her what I liked. Never coming here again. FYI I also took pictures so ‍ Also to respond to the owner (not sure how to respond directly to him besides update my review) - I specifically only wanted one outfit (a lengha) I didn't request to see anything at all besides that and specified that multiple times but I was told to move to 3 different areas - the first time to the middle left of the upper level, the second time to the corner left of the upper level, and third to corner right of the upper level- all to see just ONE style of outfit? Your employees are not being truthful. Your employee also did imply that I was overweight. Her exact words "oh, these outfits will not fit her, she has to get the bigger sizes". And the only reason I took a picture (which was of the ground) was because I was texting someone and the original female employee started saying loudly not to be taking pictures when I was in fact just texting. After she embarrassed me I decided to break your rules, which I apologize for doing but I certainly do not apologize for leaving this very truthful review. My complaint is with the 3 people I had encounters with. Those 3 need to be taught proper customer service. I have no reason to waste my time and "lie" or exaggerate about anything on a yelp comment besides warn people that this may happen to them as well. This harsh review is the truth. You could just pull your camera footage and watch for yourself and see us in fact get passed around your employees (you'll also see that I did not take a picture of your outfits). The service and especially the customer service here is TERRIBLE. My fiance and I came from out of state to purchase a sherwani for an engagement photos shoot for almost $600.00...they took his measurements for alteration but the tailor did not correctly do the alternations. We realized this once the sherwani arrived in the mail, but by that time, it was too late to send it back. Our photos were ruined. Worst of all, when I called Sahil, they refused to refund me any of the $150.00 they had charged me for the alterations. They only offered to realter the sherwani, which is pointless given that the photo shoot is over and ruined because of the poorly fitting sherwani. I wouldn't recommend shopping here, there are better options on Devon. read more

I came here 6 weeks before my wedding to buy an outfit, picked it out but I wanted the same dupatta in a different color. They happily agreed to do it in that much time, I told them exactly when the wedding was and they promised it'd be here one week prior. Lo and behold it came 2 weeks after my wedding. They gave me a temporary dupatta that was in the same color family but completely different design than my outfit. I obviously didn't use it. It's my wedidng day, and I didn't want to look like a hot mess with a mismatching dupatta. And they weren't even the slightest bit sympathetic or offer to reimburse me for the dupatta. Overall, I am on the fence about Sahil Boutique. There's high pressure sales people trying to sell you random things instead of allowing you to choose, but I've been through worse on Devon. You cannot just browse the clothing because it's tucked away in bags on shelves you are not allowed to touch, which preserves the clothing's quality. The dresses come with some sleeve assembly required (at a reasonable fee, of course) by their tailor, which you may see as a plus or a minus. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, but I would prefer to pick my own clothes rather than having a parade of random articles laid out before me. Although they offer discounts, the clothes appear to be marked up to be marked down pending a sale. The quality of the clothing seems higher than other Indo-Pak boutiques in the area. It's a large store offering a wide variety. If you love to be waited on by sales staff and haggling, you'll fit right in. If you'd prefer a quiet and independent shopping experience, you might want to avoid shopping in that entire area, not just at Sahil. Sahil is the WORST. Their customer service and attitudes are just deplorable. They expect the utmost from their customers, yet do not hold themselves to any standard. I have spent thousands of dollars at Sahil over the past few years and have finally had it. I took blouses there to be altered - I came back 2 weeks later (after they were promised to be ready) and they hadn't been touched. They did a shoddy job altering them, and when I pointed out how they didn't fit right, they said it was a problem with my body. When I asked for compensation for my troubles, they brought in the tailor and said any discount would come straight out of his pocket. I am Indian and know a lot about Indian fashion. Even though Sahil seems like really nice store, there are many other places on Devon that have similar items, much better prices and much better people. Regal and Studio Elite are just a couple options - You're better off walking into a random store off Devon than shopping at Sahil. read more
