We've eaten at many Dearborn restaurants before and decided to try the St. Clair Sahara location. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. I ordered Chicken (Kebabs) & my friend ordered lamb kebabs. The Chicken Kebabs were acceptable, but the lamb kebabs lacked any kind of seasoning & were so tough we couldn't eat them. The rice that accompanied the entrees had little or no butter or seasoning added to it, and was dry. The tabouleh dressing was horrible and made out of cheap olive oil. The WC was smelly. We won't be back. If you are driving by the Sahara restaurant, keep on driving and hit the gas. read more

Ive been here a couple of times and wont go back. Everytime ive visited the hummus has been... "off" always tasting slightly rotten, sickly sweet at first then soured and pickled. They messed up my order of "house fries" and gave me unsalted super dry and old french fries instead. I asked for garlic sauce and extra pita. I received no garlic sauce and one pita. I was charged as if I had gotten all of it. The ambiance was disconcerting too as the place was mostly empty except seemingly the entire staff at one booth who seemed perturbed that I had the indecency to interrupt them and order something. The decor was bad, things were dusty , the food was bad, the service was bad. And I gave them multiple tries. 3x strikes and youre out. Go to cedar garden or lylas instead. read more

I have been here with my parents several times, it's been here for a while. It's my mother's preferred spot for baba ghanouj. There aren't many options on this side of town. It's okay. We usually split the ghanouj and share a fatoosh salad and then I get the chicken tawook or kebab. Service is usually good. Food is decent and is consistent at least. read more

The food is pretty good, I like the shawarmas but it's so expensive. I got 2 chicken shawarmas (not the combos), grape leaves and a small hummus thinking it was going to be like 35$. It was almost 50$. Later I looked at the menu and saw that the chicken shawarma combo was 22$. Uhh what? Chicken, pita bread, pickles and a side of rice is 22$? How is that possible? OMG. How have I lived here half my life and have never been. It is probably the best middle eastern I've ever had. My son had the chicken tenders and fries and he said they were they best he ever had. I had the lamb kabobs with a side salad and grilled veggies. It was perfect. Large tub of garlic sauce which I used most of. A basket full of pita bread and then she brought over some candies for my son at the end that made his day!! I am pretty sure I will now be coming back weekly!! Wish I could give 10 stars read more

Just had dinner again here this week (November)---as excellent as the first time. Truly, magnificent pita/Syrian bread, with tasty and not too spicy olive oil---a very nice Slurpee-esque lemonade drink, and awesome tender lamb served with a sea of fresh hummous, sparkling with lemon, and accompanied with rice. I wish I could transplant this restaurant and have it waiting for me in various places around the world. Oh, and friendly, happy service from a guy that cares about his food and his restaurant. Baffled by the scatter in reviews; don't understand the scatter, but clearly it exists--- To give credit where credit is due, Royal Kabob in Hamtramck would be my other choice of a place to eat Middle Eastern food in Detroit (again, let us have a moment of silence to mourn the closing of the original La Shish, in its circa 2002-7 incarnation). But at the end of the day---I look forward to my next trip here! read more

I wanted to like it but so disappointing, shish kabob was black and burnt. Fattoush Salad had tons of lemon and oil all over it, the chips were not fried they were air dried or something. The hummus was bland, had no flavor. The garlic sauce used to be great, it was tart almost like they added lemon to that too. Even the shawarma was bland. Maybe the worst middle eastern food I've ever had. We got tons of food for cheap. I'd rather pay a little extra for less food of better quality. read more

We have gone to Sahara my whole life, and it's always been incredibly fresh and yummy. The staples are: hummus (super tahini-y and yummy) Sahara salad (the BEST LEMON GARLIC DRESSING!) and their meat grape leaves, along with the chicken kebabs dinner! It's a cute family run business with lots on the menu to choose from, from chicken shawarma to tabouli to chicken to shish kafta. It's a good spot. Pricy, but worth it. read more
