We ordered from kabob castle multiple times and it's always delicious. We got the shish combo for 3 which came with hummus, bread, tabouli salad and grilled veggies. We did upgrade to a larger tabouli. The food tastes better the next day for lunches or dinners. We also got the soup and the garlic sauce. Good portions and chicken was tender, moist and perfectly charred, the bread is great and melts when you eat it, rice was very good and the almonds added that special touch. Best Middle Eastern food we have found here so far. The flavor and spices are just right. We bought a house near the area, and we were in the lookout for a good middle eastern restaurant. We decided to order from Kabob Castle because it was just 10 minutes away from our home. We placed an order to go for a Castle Platter for Two. My gosh, the number of bags of food we received was insane. I was confused at first because I thought we were given the wrong order. Upon getting home we set up the display of food and started to eat. Everything was so good. I couldn't believe this small restaurant is making tasty food like this. I was worried the kabobs were not going to be as flavorful, but it was the opposite. Very tasty and enjoyed every bite from them. We had leftovers for the next day too. I ordered Kabob Castle after a recommendation from a friend. Upon walking in, I noticed that the tables were still off to the side, which was a little odd since the restaurant restrictions gave even lifted. When I got to the register, the owner greeted me and asked me if I was doing good and staying safe which you don't hear too often. I of course told him I was good and of course playing it safe, as I saw he was, too, by wearing a similar mask. He told me how he's had customs stop in and ask about dinning in, but he turns them away. He told me, "I know I'm losing a lot of money, but I'm not ready yet and I want everyone to be safe." Instantly, I gave that man my business for life. When I got home, we unpacked the food and omg, the aroma's coming from the bag! The bag in which the bread was placed was wet, it was a clear indication that the bread literally can't right out of the oven . We didn't order much, but we had a shawarma sandwich, salad, and rice. Went here while in town on business. Not wanting to eat at chain place I read through the Yelp reviews and found this place. I drove there to order. Now this place is nothing to look at you walk in and all the tables and chairs are stacked up so it's take out only. Not much on the ambiance. The place was clean from what I could see. The guy taking orders was very pleasant and answered my questions. I ordered the beef shawarma plate with rice and salad. The order took about 15 minutes. The prices were reasonable. The food that was supposed to be hot was and that was supposed to be cold was as well. The bread I got was very good and apparently very fresh. The rice was excellent and not sticky. 2017-09-16. We just happened to by driving by and the kids felt like Middle Eastern so we stopped in. Located on the west side of Gratiot Avenue just north of 14 MI Rd. the place is in a plaza with free parking out front. Inside, the decor is dated. Wood paneling lines the walls like a scene straight from the 70's, the carpeting quietly blustering after decades of abuse. Booths line up along the walls and tables and chairs fill the center of the dining area. The chairs are your typical metal, stackable type with a vinyl covered cushion that you find at banquet facilities before they're covered; it's lacking aesthetics compensated by its strength and durability. Before I start my review, I need to preface it by stating that the Middle East is a big place, with Lebanese flavours being the pinnacle by which all Middle East foods are judged. I will not be doing this. I believe all foods should be judged on their own merit. To say that Saudi Arabian Shawarma is not Middle Eastern because it doesn't taste like the Lebanese recipes is not a fair assessment. In fact, the different regions of the Middle East is one of their strengths, and showcases the diversity within the same culture. As this was our first visit here, we ordered the platter for 2 for the broadest sample range possible. It contained your staples; kafta; shawarma; kabobs; rice; soup; hummus; and of course the bread and toum. Pita Bread. The pitas were slightly smaller in size than most places, and the bread itself is a little more crumbly. Crumbly bread is effected by the gluten in it. It didn't exactly taste like it was gluten free, so I'm going to lean towards the dough being underproofed (needed more kneading). 2 stars. Toum. Ah, the whipped garlic! A simple spread made from garlic, oil, salt, and lemon juice. When this came out with the pitas, it was a first for me, it had a green tint to it. However; when I ate it, it was exactly what you expect, garlicky without being spicy. What extras did they add to give it that green tinge? I wasn't able to detect any other flavors so I'm going to guess fresh cilantro, or a powdered version of it. 4 stars. Crushed Lentil Soup. Another first for me, this time it was texture. The soup was both runny and chunky at the same time. Flavor wise, nothing popped out at me. Definitely another new experience, but not one I was favoring. 2 stars. By this time, I had to ask the server which part of the Middle East the chef was from as these were flavors and textures I've yet to experience. The response... Yemen! Hummus. This was nice and smooth. It was neither too heavy, nor dry. Right amount of lemon. Overall, a great balance of chick peas, tahini, garlic, and lemon. 4,5 stars. Rice. Long grain rice with bits of noodles. I admit, I'm a fan of butter (who isn't?), and this rice didn't contain any. While it did have oil to support the dish visually, it did nothing palatally. 3 stars. Chicken Chop. Grilled over an open flame fueled by what had to be coals and not gas, the char was ever so slightly on the heavy side. But the chef managed to kept the meat moist, tender, and juicy. The marinade was mild in flavor but decent. 3,5 stars. Beef Kafta. All the typical flavors can be tasted; onions, parsley, and allspice getting along harmoniously. Again, grilled over open flame coals which left a good char, but the dish still managed to hold up. 3,5 stars. Chicken Kafta. Prepared the same way over an open flame. It was better than other places I've have it and didn't contain any fillers. But I'm not a fan of the dish in general and much prefer the beef to chicken. 3,5 stars. Shawarma. So either this place was super busy or the shawarma was not cooked on a spit sitting in a vertical roaster. There was no crispness to the meat at all, like they just filled an order (or five -- these spits are usually quite large) and we got the layer underneath. While the flavor is there, IMO, the roast is part of the appeal of the dish. 2,5 stars. Chicken Kabob. Chunks of chicken breast marinated and grilled over open flames. The grill marks were great here! The meat was really tender and not the least dried out. Unfortunately, I wish the marinade gave it some more "pop" in terms of flavor. 4 stars. Beef Kabob. Like the Chicken Kabob this was well executed. The meat was tender and cooked to a beautiful medium rare. Great grill marks too! 4 stars. After the initial surprise of the first three dishes (pita, toum, lentil soup), the dishes sort of fell more in line with the mainstream Lebanese style. I did ask about the heavier chars on the kaftas and chops, and was told that it was intentional. With Yemen being the furthest from Lebanon, I was expecting different flavors, but didn't get much variation. Whether Lebanon has a powerful reach or they're just catering to mainstream tastes, I'll never know... 3 stars overall. This was my first time, I got 2 chicken shawarma sandwich's, and a 4oz side of garlic sauce (I didn't realize each sandwich came with a 2oz side of it, along with a piece of wonderful bread). The staff was friendly and attentive. The prices are fair. The parking is plentiful and free. I'm not sure why some people bashed this place, my experience was wonderful, just like the food itself. Honestly this was the best Middle Eastern I've had in a really long time. I highly recommend giving this place a chance.
