I opted for a package of FrischSchoggi, though you can also buy it from the counter and select the flavours. All of the FrischSchoggi options I bought were really good and I'd be willing to eat all of them again. The blackberry was probably my favourite with the least being the mixed fruit since I'm not super into white chocolate. I'm looking forward to trying to truffles. Everything looked amazing! I have a list of people that need Christmas gifts and they're getting Laderach!

Chocolates in a stunning array are ready for your purchase by the slab off of the cooking tray, beautifully gift wrapped or in smaller broken pieces sold by weight. The staff are welcoming, informative and jovial. The entire store is a visual feast. We made an agonizing selection of three of our favorites. They were broken into the sizes that we preferred and packaged for quick consumption. Surprisingly, the price was quite affordable and soon we were savoring our choices as we strolled through the rest of the shopping mall. Gifting or in the mood for a delicious dessert as a reward for living, you simply can't miss a visit to Laderach!

That said, after today's visit, I stand corrected. The exterior is run down and the lighting inside is depressing, but the place is clean, the staff is nice and the pricing is competitive. If this place had a robust meat selection, I think they could give Uwajimaya a run. I didn't find everything I was looking for, but the dry spices and vegetables were exactly what I was after. I didn't see cabbage or celery, but the selection was still more diverse than any other store I've visited. My singular knock was the two guys stocking the store. Both were kind and polite, but they also had radios blasting music. I'm sensitive to sound, so it made it hard for me to focus and I'm sure a couple items I was after I missed, because I couldn't stay in the area where they were stocking merch. Bulk spices tend to last, so it may be a minute before I find my way back here. That said, this will be my go to spice store.

UPDATE: 3/24/26... As a Yelp Elite member for 6 years, I…read morepride myself in giving fair reviews, whether good or bad. And with the bad, I strive to be positive on the experience that was good before giving suggestions or letting the owner know what fell short. I'm never out to bash a business. Rather, as an owner, if you pride yourself in customer service, you will take what a sincere Yelp Elite reviewer has to say, step back and see how you can improve. I just read the comments another reviewer posted a few days ago and saw that they were berated as well. I had nothing to gain from giving the review I did and it's unfortunate that you're no longer going to be in business, but there were two other people with me that came to this consensus. With that, I will reply to the unfortunate remarks slammed at me, the reviewer. Let me preface by saying I asked for a pic with the owner before tea service started. If it was said that we had a wonderful and lovely time, it was not by me but one of my friends who, when asked how everything was, couldn't think of anything else to say. Also, I wasn't going to express all of this in front of the owner at the time because I had others with me. So, to rebel and ask me if my mother is still alive and did she teach me to behave like this? Well, all I can say is your reaponse as a business owner is extremely childish and unprofessional. I didn't make the food. I reviewed it and if that means it's not the best review, so be it. It pains me not to give a business owner a good review because that's not what we as Elite members strive for. That said, lashing out is not the answer. At least I have the maturity and diplomacy to put these comments in without getting into a mud fight like you chose to do. Review..... My two girlfriends and I came here for afternoon tea. Since I'm the Yelp reviewer, I asked them for their input and so it was a consensus of the three of us. Here's what went right. It was nice to have a carafe of water at our table, there were beautiful flowers and dyed water to match in the vase, the teacups and saucers were very pretty, the owner was extremely nice. Here's what we thought needed a second look. The sign in the store advertised cheese and fruit for the afternoon tea but it didn't appear. When we asked we were told it didn't come with it but we could get some if we wanted. Please revise the sign as people do notice. Suggest you have a selection of three sandwiches rather than two of each. One was a small croissant filled with egg salad and if we hadn't been told that we thought it might be chicken. The other was a cucumber sandwich which although it's nice to have thin slices of cucumber, these were razor thin. Sort of disappointing that there was so little on a beautiful piece of bread. They scones were nothing special. Perhaps have something inside whether it be cranberry, currant etc. The sweets consisted of a Mexican wedding cake which was rather dry and was there a detection of almond extract? The orange macaron, as beautiful as it was, lacked flavor of orange. I was expecting a nice burst of something but it just wasn't there. The fondant on the petit four was much too thick, and sweet. Whatever fashion the raspberry is used, keep a bit of that tart flavor to offset the sweetness from the fondant. The effort was there, things just felt short.

Some items are priced better than 99 Ranch. You really have to be selective about what you shop if you are price conscious. Canola and corn oil can be almost twice as much as Safeway or QFC. They definitely specialize in Filipino goods, so you won't a lot of items you might find at 99 Ranch, Uwajimaya or Asian Family Market. The other day, I was about to buy some raw chicken wings tray packed poultry section. The package didn't feel as cold as it should have. I looked at the temp gauge above the product, the cooler was malfunctioning and at too high a temperature, 58F I told a manager and she just said yeah, they know. A technician is coming "later". Meanwhile product was still sitting on those refrigerated shelves. They should've pulled everything out of that refrigerated section until it was fixed. That was a bummer, but I still come here for the cheap eggs and last minute items that I don't want to make a longer trip for. Cashiers are always super friendly. I'm always an advocate for coming during off-peak hours. Better parking and it's not combat in the aisles. But it's worth coming during a weekend rush, just for the experience. But do it only once.

But I'm confused by one thing - related to feng shui/spirituality/care and it seems out of place. To the left of the place where you pay there is a dead plant that hasn't been watered for who knows how long. It's dried up and dying. In a place that offers such fresh food and has a huge jug of water outside right next to this dying plant - why is this happening? I don't understand why all of your staff would not want to water the plant and would leave it there to die ~it seems off and shows a lack of attention to detail! This makes me wonder if that will translate into the food!? I've been in the service industry off and on since the mid 80s - I've run bakeries, I've worked in hotels, and I currently work for an airline. The dead/dying plant makes no sense in your environment. Service is related to attention to detail and anticipating the needs of your customer. Take care of this living thing or remove it!
