I've lived here my whole life and haven't ever tried these stables, location is great, so I reached out to reserve a ride. Looked at the website, couldn't find any link for online reservation, found the number, called, had to leave a message, message says to email for faster service, I emailed, got a message back to look at the website, found the online reservation link, time slot wasn't available for online reservation, had to call again, someone answered, couldn't help me because they were now closed, next day called, left message, waited, called back, the ride was booked. I dedicated way too much of my time trying to give someone 300 dollars for a service. read more

One star because I can't give a zero. This experience was very disappointing. I am on a very tight budget, I had to be very selective of the activities I choose to do. I chose this stable based on reviews and photos shown on their website. The website shows breathtaking photos of a ride through the water at the base of a mountain. What we got was a ride through the desert, riding away from the mountains. Nothing but dirt and cactus. Photos were taken by the guide (very poorly, see below photos, read the captions). He chose ugly backdrops of dirt and cactus even though there were absolutely gorgeous mountain backdrops that could've been used further down the trail, next to the stables. I was told the mountain view backdrops are for the 1 hour tour, not the 1.5 hour tour. When the guide was asked to stop, he said "yea, we're on a 'time thing'". Ours was the last tour of the day. He must've had plans after work?? I asked about the water crossing (the entire reason I booked this stable) he said, "that'll start in a few weeks". That would've been great to know before I wasted my money. I would never recommend this place. Incredibly disappointed. I honestly feel like I got ripped off. Seriously false advertising. read more

Got a last minute reservation two days before and was so happy we did! We did the 1.5 hr group ride and I plan to go back to do the 2hr. The drive up is beautiful as expected and they have a little parking lot across the screen. It's dirt/gravel but does the job. For bathrooms they have port-o-potties so be prepared for that but they have plenty of hand sanitizer. It's optional but they provide helmets in different sizes. We opted for helmets and they were clean/didn't smell. They ask your level/experience and we have multiple school she's kids, not yet teens, on the ride that did just fine. All the horses were incredibly tame and well tempered. We didn't have any issues on the ride except for occasionally stopping for the horses when they had to pee or poo. The guides are incredibly nice and point out views and tell stories along the way. Riding across the water back and forth was definitely the highlight and such a fun experience. The views are unbeatable and they stop for a photo op at the best point. It's definitely kid friendly and the ride never goes above a slow walk so great for beginners. I've been here twice and a great experience both times! The horses are well taken care of and are not easily spooked. The guides make you feel safe and comfortable. The views are stunning. If you go in the winter months you can cross the river on the horse. Once the water gets too high then the trail changes. Both times we stopped for photos. It was a different location so I got lucky to have a different backgrounds on each trip. Make sure to bring water as it is required if the temp is over 75 (I believe). There is a saddle bag that can fit the bottle and also a phone as you can take pictures as you ride as well. I want to come back and ride in the winter to cross the river! read more

These folks are the real deal. MOST importantly, they take very good care of their horses (they sometimes are looking for volunteers too for mucking, etc). You don't need any experience whatsoever, just show up and enjoy the ride. Great convo with the guides, they're a hoot. I've gifted this as two birthday outings and one ride just because it was a nice day to take a wander through the desert. The river crossing is super cool when the water is high (look beforehand to see if the dam is open - it's seasonal). Go first thing in the morning, trust me (you're welcome). read more

Such a tremendous wrangler, Haylee, was cheerful, informative, loved being outside with the us! Most important, healthy and clean horses, excellent tack, variety of trails and the scenery was unique! Lottie greeted us with friendly instructions and the stable dog, always a bonus! The mounts were chosen for our sizes and experience. We had Houlihan (Houli), Wayne, and Henry. Will go again! This trail ride is worth every penny and a must do in Phoenix! Our guide, Jill, was fantastic, taking the time to educate us on the history of the stables and ranch, and the land we rode through. Jill is engaging, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic-a perfect guide!! She took the time to take excellent pictures/videos (which are appreciated but certainly not expected), and find and point out wildlife. We attempted to find Nieman, a wild Salt River Horse, but he was elusive this day. Definitely recommend this activity and Jill as a guide. 10/10! read more

Our guide was very instructive for beginners. She made sure to remind us of tips to work the horses as the trail changed elevation. The views were spectacular. You want to be at the front of the line. Otherwise you breathe in the dust the horses in front are kicking up. The horses are gentle and well suited to these rides. Your tour starts on time and the guide will stop and take a photo of you individually and with your party at a scenic spot. We also received a coupon for one free hour ride with purchase of an hour. OMG! We just got back from our 1 hr ride at Saguaro lake and had an absolutely amazing time. Our guide was Lottie (with help from her assistant Cowgirl Kay). We ended up having a really small group so Lottie took us on a great scenic route right before sunset. My guest was from out of town and it was the best thing I could have done with her! Lottie and Kay both had SO much information to share about the area, wildlife, greenery and horses. Both of us were beginners and found that we felt really comfortable in Lotties care. The horses were beautiful and mild mannered (although mine really liked to stop and snack ) . If you're in the area I highly recommend this adventure! This was a fabulous way to see the Tonto National Forest with a riding experience. Great experience and guides super nice and friendly. If crossing the river is a big deal to you, call and ask before booking if they are able to cross due to water levels. We weren't able to and were perfectly fine with that. Had a great morning. Lots of nature to see while on horseback. Very professionally run. They take lots of pics and will stop to take a pic of your individual group. We've been on this ride 3 times. Each time we bring at least 10 people. One person was sick the morning of so we called to cancel for just that one. Per their refund policy, you have to cancel 24 hours in advance, fine. The person ended up going sick to avoid wasting the $75 since they couldn't be accommodating for us. Clearly they don't care about health and safety of others. Then, we get there exactly 15 minutes before the ride to check in. Their policy is you must be there 15 minutes before to check in to avoid a fee. After the ride, (and after the guides were tipped) we received a text that we were charged the late fee. We were all there 15 minutes before but one person went back to the car to put their purse back after we were told by the worker that they couldn't bring it, resulting in being ONE MINUTE past the 15 minute window. Additionally, you would think our 9 person group was large enough to have our own ride. Nope, they'd rather stuff us with 5 others so they could make as much as possible in one ride. You couldn't even hear the guide in front because of this and the guide in back doesn't say much of anything. They are sticklers and unwilling to let anything slide. Just shows they are money hungry and don't care about customer loyalty. Like I said, we've been here multiple times and always bring a large group. After this, we will never go back to their greedy ranch and will bring our money elsewhere. They've lost our business forever. read more

Had an amazing time on our 6pm ride with Lottie! She was a great guide for my family of 4 and made sure our group was paired with the right horse in the right order. Horses have personalities too. The views of the mountains are incredible at this time of evening and I felt very safe on my trusty steed Cochise. And we got to see a young bald eagle! Recommend a bandana or something to cover your face as a few parts of the trail get pretty dusty. read more

Did a ride here back in December while in the area and had an excellent time. I'm a total horse riding novice and the staff made me feel very comfortable. This review is for the parents of horse crazy girls. Beware. Very rude staff. Very disappointed. My husband I live nearby. We were out at Saguaro Lake. Saw this place, tried calling but no answer. We've been looking for a venue to celebrate our horse crazy daughters birthday. We thought the ranch could possibly be the perfect place. So, we drove there because we were literally right next door. We passed the SRP facility, then stopped and parked at the stable parking. We respected the sign that said for ranch guests only, and parked in the lot, and did not continue up the drive. There was no traffic, and no one else in the lot. There were no other people around. There was one woman in the stable area and the horses were all in there eating hay. So, my husband, daughter and myself walked over to the stable office. We didn't see anyone, then the woman appeared and said we're closed. We replied very politely, Ok, sorry, we were just interested in possibly doing something for our daughters birthday. My husband then began asking a few questions about when they are open, age requirements, etc. I asked if it was ok if my (4 year old) daughter just looked at the horses for a minute. She said "Fine" but only for a minute because there was a special event. (This was on a Wednesday at 4pm) There was literally not one car or person around or anything to suggest we were crashing someone's party. But, I said ok Thank you. Meanwhile my husband is trying to inquire about us booking something with them. Literally 60 seconds later, I walked no more than 5 feet towards the fence, still at least 20 feet from any of the horses, and this woman said to me very loudly and rudely, "No, No, No, don't intrude, don't intrude, you need to leave" Immediately my daughter begins to cry because she just wanted to see "Spirit" and this woman has no empathy for a little girl crying and whose parents are trying to spend money there. Possibly a lot of money. Honestly we were so shocked by her rudeness and disappointed we just left immediately. We were there honestly less than five minutes. We were in no way being an inconvenience or interrupting a special event. We were excited about this place, but that is not how a horse ranch who sells horse experiences should treat little girls and polite potential customers who want to spend their money there. (Just a side note, I am an experienced rider, my family has horse farms in Georgia and I have owned horses my entire life. We were not being rude or loud or in any way disturbing the horses, or even asking to pet one. We were being very respectful of the horses. My daughter just wanted to look and see if she could find Spirit and his herd. Three minutes is all she would have needed and it would have made her whole week. My husband would have been more than willing to open up his wallet to continue that experience for her. But instead we were made to feel like trespassers and left with a little girl in tears) read more

If you are looking for something fun and socially distant during Covid times, a trail ride here is what to do! They are taking the necessary cautions to prevent the spread of covid, but not allowing it to take away from the fun. I have been on many trail rides all over the world, but I have to say this one is in my favorite so far. The horses are well trained, the guides are knowledgeable, and the trail is absolutely beautiful! I did the 7AM 1.5 hour group tour, and it was perfect. The heat didn't bother me and the clear skies allowed the most gorgeous view of the lake. As I drove to the ranch, the sun was climbing over the mountains and it was like a scene out of a movie. While on the trail the guide let us stop for water, pictures, and even took some photos of us on the horse in front of the best view. He warned us when to duck our heads due to branches, when to guide our horses left or right (for our safety and theirs), and helped get us on and off the horses. The horses also looked well fed and watered, and you could tell the animals welfare came first and foremost. Overall, I will be coming back again. Every time I visit the Phoenix area they can expect me to book a ride. Loved this experience and I am so glad I had the chance to have some fun during these trying times of Covid-19. read more

We had a ride today for 6 people. The ride was great. Our tour guide, Marcel, was amazing. He was extremely talkative, answered any questions we had, took all the photos we wanted, and made us feel ver comfortable and welcome. I am giving this ride 2 stars because of the events that happened afterwards. After the ride, the manager, Lottie, came up to us as we were about to leave and accused us of being late to our ride and insisted that she will be charging us the late fee. When we asked her who was late her response was "I don't know, you tell me." On our way home, we received a text from her that she had gotten it wrong on her part and mixed up what time our ride started at. Overall, our whole group felt this incident ruined the whole experience. She was extremely condescending when speaking with us and we will not be back here. read more
