Now he's 5, and we honestly can't get him to stop talking! What sets Shamim apart is not only her 30 years of experience and deep knowledge of the field, but also the remarkable care and passion she brings to her work. She has so many tools in her toolbox and always knew how to tailor each session to meet my son where he was. We're so grateful for the foundation she helped build. Highly recommend!

Although we only worked with Shamim for three months our child made tremendous progress with her help. We only stopped working with her because we moved out of state. If we could continue services with her, we absolutely would. Shamim is wonderful with kids. It is evident that she has years of experience working with children of all ages and variety of concerns as well as with parents. Her approach is warm, caring, supportive, playful, knowledgeable, creative, and engaging. She was flexible with her treatment approach and met our child where he was at. Our child always looked forward to their sessions. She is also great at managing behavioral regulation and provided some practical techniques to us as parents. In addition, Shamim is wonderful working with parents. We appreciated her willingness to consider realistic recommendations on how to help our child and practice speech/language at home given our busy schedules. She kept us informed with his progress. Even after we moved, she checked in with us and she helped us find resources in our area. I truly believe that working with Shamim was integral to the improvement and further speech and language development of child and has been very beneficial with his progress socially and academically.

My son started seeing Mayra when he was almost 3.5 years old speaking just a few simple sentences…read more After about 5-6 months of weekly sessions my son was caught up with his age group and has continued to improve his communication skills. My son took to Mayra immediately and looked forward to going to her sessions every week. She even took the time to rework our session schedules due to my changing schedule and also arranged for my son to practice speaking or "playing" with other kids around his speech level. I saw his confidence grow in interacting with other children verbally. The other therapists who work with Mayra are fantastic as well with giving individual reports after each session. We are so glad we had our son work with Mayra and recommend her without hesitation!

We figured that we would wait him out, but six months went by and instead of getting better, his stutter actually started to get worse and he started to have some other concerning developments. At that time, we decided to bring him in to see a speech therapist. We feel so lucky to have found Mayra. After 3 sessions with Mayra, my son's speech dramatically improved -- actually, more than improved, the speech disfluency completely went away! We continued to go to our session for a few more weeks until Mayra let us know that she no longer needs to see him on a weekly basis and we should just check in every month or so, so she can keep an eye on his speech and make sure he doesn't regress. AMAZING! Thank you Mayra. You are truly skilled at what you do.

When I spoke with my massage therapist and osteopath about the exercises she had me do, they said they didn't make sense given my issues. I asked her to call my physical therapist where I used to live to find out what she did. That never happened over the course of a month. She did speak to my pelvic floor Physcial therapist but then said she wanted to have me do exercises I know the pelvic floor pt doesn't allow me to do yet. It is like she came up with a sense very quickly of my problem and a treatment plan without looking much at my records or consulting with the rest of my team. My case is very complex, and she didn't take that into consideration. I became worse over time except when seeing someone else who said my issue was something else and gave different treatment. Pt was resistant though and wouldn't alter course. Also my sunglasses were stollen by the tech. I had them when I came in, and then after I did stim and heat, they were gone. The tech asked if they were "expensive." Seriously!?!? If your issue is simple and you need a place that takes insurance, they can probably help you. But they certainly didn't me.

I had a labrum tear in my shoulder repaired, and to describe the condition as 'uncomfortable' after…read morefour weeks would be a tremendous understatement. I picked Physiotherapy Associates (I think they their name is also BAK) because of proximity, but perhaps I was lucky because I can't recommend the care I received higher. They have a clean, open office with a lot of room. They've recently done some remodeling and it added to the space. The equipment was in good shape, and they have a changing room if you need it. Ryan Napeek was my therapist, and Frank and Zack helped with the exercises. Ryan was always on time, was thorough in preparing for my sessions, and was careful to follow the surgeon's instructions. Everyone will tell you PT stands for 'pain and torture', and it does hurt a bit, but honestly not as much as everyone said it would. Ryan made sure to monitor my progress and not do anything that would potentially damage the repair. He was incremental and careful during range of motion exercises, and not to mention a lot of fun to talk to (which helps when you need something to take your mind off of your current activity). Frank and Zack make sure you do your exercises, and they are nice about it. The electric stimulation machine is pretty cool, I used it for the first couple of visits but after a while you don't need it. I just had my four month follow up, and the surgeon said, 'I can tell you now, but after your surgery I didn't expect you to recover as well as you did; the tear in your labrum was quite serious.' Kind of a shock to hear that, but as my range of motion is 90% with signs of getting better, I can only assume it was largely because of the quality of the surgeon, but also because of the quality of the physical therapy.
