If you don't like what is on the menu today, you can ask for a substitute. There are RNs and CNAs 24 x 7. There are two, sunny patios. So you don't need to hang out in your room. They have a large staff of physical therapists and occupational therapists, so every patient can receive therapy every day. As is usually the case, half the staff are Filipinos, but there are also staff from Indonesia, Nigeria, Mexico, Malta, Fiji, Lithuania, China and the Caribbean. One individual was even born in California!

I was here for one full month, and…read moreit was so appalling, the quality of care is non-existent, the language barrier almost sent me to the emergency room because a CNA did not know how to tell the RN that my blood sugar was dropping, by the time the RN actually came to my room, My blood sugar had dropped to 45!! That was not an isolated incident by any means. I was there for serious post-surgical care on a major foot infection, with the doctor's orders to change my dressing twice a day. It was all I could do to get it changed ONCE a day, I reported this directly to the physician her in the facility and he didn't seem to care because nothing changed. I tried explaining to the nurse's that the rest of my life depended on my care at this facility, any faulty care could result in amputation of my leg from the knee down. One day, size 10 rolled around and not one nurse had come to see me all day (with the exception of giving me my meds.) I struggled into the wheelchair, rolled myself to the door of the room, and at the top of my lungs I yelled out "Would someone please come and change my dressing!" Bunch of employees game running, and my dressing was changed immediately. How sad I had to stoop so low to get any medical attention. The staff was neglectful, the RNs were WAY over-worked, and management did not seem to care so long as their protocols were being met. I actually wrote a long complaint letter to the licensing board of the state of California to let them know of how egregious the "care" I received from this facility. DO NOT GO HERE!!

I haven't received treatment yet but if it wasn't for the fact it's the only location nearby covered by my insurance, I would be going elsewhere. Update: they cancelled my appointment the day of saying they need something different from the specialist referral but have not responded to let me know what is specially missing from the referral. I give up and am not going to go there for PT, I will do it on my own.

Joey (Joseph Livelo) was my physical therapist, and he was absolutely amazing in guiding my healing journey. Beyond being highly knowledgeable, personable, and easy-going, Joey takes a wonderfully pragmatic approach to care. He designed a program with exercises that were easy for me to stick to, thoughtfully evolving the routine as I progressed to edge me closer to full recovery. I genuinely looked forward to our weekly sessions! It has now been four months since my last visit, and I still do a set of the exercises Joey gave me every single morning to maintain my physical well-being. He really enjoys their outings and approach to memory care - it's like a resort for folks with cognitive issues. Kensington staff have made it possible for me to live my life while they handle the day-to-day care my LO needs. Dementia is not easy, on patient or family, Kensington staff, support and care have been amazing. We had falls - all were handled with careful attention to his wellness, disclosed openly and honestly with me. A couple falls meant EMT's or a hospital was necessary but no falls resulted in any significant injuries. I suspect falls for elderly, fragile, dementia patients with poor mobility are to be expected. Kensington always called to let me know what happened and made recommendations to prevent it in the future. They gave me ample opportunity to state any concerns too. I've found Kensington food is always great - fresh, tasty and as much variety as he wants. WOW, the deserts are his favorite. ;-) He loves the 'mock-tail' parties with music, dancing and singing. I have found the incentive for all community members (staff, residents and family) to participate in activities very high. I know if my LO doesn't join an event - it's his choice to have some down-time and not be 'made-to' participate. It's his life and this disease takes its toll in many areas - he isn't the person he used to be but he loves his Kensington lifestyle. Recently he told me, "while he can't remember much", he's "pretty sure that Kensington is the nicest place he's ever lived". With all the bad days dementia gives us that one little remark was my win for the year - I hold it very dear and I know that Kensington made it possible. I can't speak all aspects of the one-star review BUT perhaps their loved one needed that one-to-one additional care they are now purchasing with the cost savings at the new facility - each resident is an individual. I read their happy review of their new home and I am thrilled they found a good fit for their LO. I think the Kensington staff seem well compensated and well qualified since we experienced no real turn-over and they are always happy to work with us. However, I too "butted-heads" with some nursing staff. I would fault Kensington with failing to identify those staff members who should not interact directly with family or LO's. Working with 'raw', stressed out families (forced to watch a painful decline) is not in every staff-members toolbox no matter how eminently qualified they are for their day-to-day responsibilities. Kensington is not inexpensive but I would say they offer value. Yes, more costly than other national memory care facilities but I would say marginally more than equivalent facilities. Kensington is new, modern, their care-giver to resident ratio is very low, it's a very active lifestyle for those with cognitive issues. My LO complained often about his last facility (more about 'being in' memory care than their actual efforts). He does not complain about Kernsington or the staff which are always happy, friendly, and genuinely welcoming.

Management will be all supportive if you keep your mouth shut and any updates will be sporadic, not truthful, inconsistent and sadly, non supportive. Senior leadership lacks oversight and you will be gas lighted on multiple levels. The price is sky high and you do not get what you pay for. Food is good if you order off menu vs vats of food specials. Sadly, they simply do not care much for residents as evident on multiple visits and their motto of caring for your family member like family is not factual. Avoid this place.

They are…read morebusy all the time and the PT will always be working with 2 patients at the same time with another assistant. Not a good experience in my opinion. At the end, select PT surprised me with an extra $40 charge due to some "re-evaluation" on top of my copayment. The PT never did anything special or extra to "re-evaluate" me, and no one ever told me anything about this extra charge. Overall, I would not recommend this place. Look elsewhere. There are better options.

This is because today I found out that my next scheduled appointments have been cancelled. They were cancelled because, allegedly, I called them to cancel due to surgery. I do not have surgery planned and have never scheduled a surgery in my life, so I never made this phone call. The coordinator was very sure that I made this phone call, even stating that I was in the car when I spoke to her. This is false because I don't take phone calls while I'm in my car. When I asked her to tell me when I made this phone call, she was not able to tell me. Finding out that my scheduled appointments have been cancelled without my consent was upsetting enough but being talked to in a very condescending way was uncalled for. I suggest updating their scheduling system (maybe add a verification process when someone calls to cancel appointments) and learn not to talk to your clients the way you did with me.
