If you are waiting for your milk to come in, are worried about your supply, or are keeping an eye on your baby's weight, see Sheridan! A friend recommended taking a breastfeeding class while I was pregnant, and I took Sheridan's class at Women's Care Medical Group. I hadn't realized that I had no idea how nursing worked and what was involved from latching, to pumping equipment, to balms and butters. Her class was super informative and made me feel confident about nursing. Of course, I didn't think I was going to have any issues (just like I thought everything was going to go according to my birth plan!) After our son was born, he lost quite a bit of weight and my milk was late coming in. We were advised to supplement with formula and see a lactation consultant right away. I called Sheridan, but unfortunately she was out of town that weekend and we ended up making an appointment with someone else. We ended up seeing two other lactation consultants, who were great at showing us how to get a good latch and how to pump 8x a day to increase supply, but were not super helpful beyond that. Two and a half months later, at the end of my rope with pumping and ready to give up on nursing altogether, I called Sheridan. She came over the next morning, on Christmas Eve day no less, and within minutes completely put me at ease. She is so good with babies, and with stressed out mamas! She gave me a plan to actually stop pumping and keep nursing. She even let me borrow her scale for a week so I could weigh my baby and make sure he was gaining at a good rate. The follow up care she gives is worth the consultation fee alone. She followed up with us to check in and see how we were doing pretty often. She was totally there for me when I would get stressed out that he wasn't gaining enough weight, talk me through it, and help me troubleshoot where we could make some tweaks if needed. Sheridan is not only an amazing lactation consultant, but she is also definitely someone you want in your support network. She was really there for us when we needed her. Long story short, my son is almost eight months and we're still going strong! I am so proud of both of us for sticking it out, and we owe so much to Sheridan's expert guidance and care. I really don't think we could have done it without her. If you need to see a lactation consultant, I wouldn't look any further. She's the best!

Sheridan has the heart of a teacher and explains things in a way that makes sense. Additionally, she has a huge heart and loads of empathy. I remember the first time I called her was in the evening after I had been discharged from the hospital from giving birth to my first son. My milk had come in and I was painfully engorged but unable to get my son to latch. She returned my call right away, calmed me down and set up an appointment to see me the next morning on short notice. It was such a relief. I call Sheridan my fairy godmother of breast feeding. Call Sheridan for any of your breastfeeding needs. You won't regret it!

While Stork and Sprout does have some excellent doulas on its team who provided great support and coaching, my experience with the agency's leadership was overwhelmingly negative. We had a particularly difficult time with Brittany. She demonstrated a pattern of manipulation, gaslighting, and lying, both to us and, from what I understand, to her own employees. Our contract promised consistent coverage, but the scheduling was erratic and communication was poor. We were left to wonder many nights if we would have support, and for several weeks, we only received 1 to 2 days of support instead of the 6 to 7 we paid for. When we requested a refund for the services not provided, Brittany refused and even fought our bank with out-of-context emails and more lies. She claims she "offered a refund" but is even today refusing to honor it as she says in the response. The lack of professionalism extended to some of the staff as well; one sick doula was sent to our home and intentionally caused our newborn physical pain. Brittany treated us like we were the difficult ones and responded with empathy-less chatGPT emails to manage the situation. We were also led to believe we would have one primary doula with a backup, but over the course of our service, we had seven different doulas come to our home. This complete lack of continuity made an already difficult period even more stressful. Based on my experience, I would advise new parents to skip Stork and Sprout and work directly with an independent doula. You will not only save the 30-40% extra fee the agency charges for scheduling, but you will also avoid the toxic and difficult management. This experience is unacceptable for a service that costs tens of thousands of dollars and demands payment upfront months ahead of providing the service. We were not able to switch easily due to the inflexible Carrot reimbursement process through the employer.

With my firstborn, I lived in fear for the first month that she wasn't getting enough milk. Maggie helped me measure my current transfer, improve my technique, and understand the bigger picture of my baby's development. And my baby's weight corrected exactly as Maggie predicted! Every visit with Maggie was immensely helpful, regardless if there was a specific problem or a checkin, because she uniquely helped me one connect the dots between my baby's birth, status updates from pediatrician visits, and the round-the-clock grind of newborn feeding. Maggie was such an indispensable part of that experience that I reached out to her again during my second pregnancy. This time, she helped me troubleshoot my second baby's lower appetite and different positioning issues, and reassured me that breastfeeding was working even when my baby simply chose to eat less. Seven months postpartum, her read on the situation has proven completely accurate. Maggie combines deep expertise with a mother's empathy (something well intentioned pediatricians can't always offer!) plus a real understanding of what breastfeeding can and can't control. No one made me feel more supported in the hardest moments of postpartum recovery.

My words of praise cannot convey the gratitude I feel towards this office and their parent office…read morein Burlingame for the efforts they made to help me rent a hospital grade scale for transfer weights. My full term baby has been triple fed for almost three months due to a poor suck with an essentially negative work up for any underlying cause other than that she is small and is truly weak at the breast. So she just needs time. The past few weeks as I have attempted to wean off supplementation, I needed to assess her ability to transfer so I searched everywhere for a scale precise enough to do that and the only place that had the medela baby weigh ii was Healthy Horizons. I called the Menlo park office where I had also rented my Ameda Platinum and they notified me that only the Burlingame office had one Medela scale for rent. I made it very clear why I needed a precise scale as I already owned a baby scale which only went down to half ounces. Long story short, I rented their Medela Baby Checker scale which was essentially as good as my home scale and I was very disappointed as I was back to square one. I called back a few days later after trying it out and told them I thought I was as getting the baby weigh ii. They sincerely apologized for the mix up and explained they only had that scale at the office but did not have one to rent. They would take back the scale I rented with a reasonable daily fee rather than their minimum one week rental due to the mix up. I then began searching online for alternative rental sites... But before I pulled the trigger, I received a voice mail and a followup call telling me the could rent out the Menlo Park scale while they ordered a new one! I couldn't believe the lengths they went through to accommodate my request. Now only a few days in I am crying less as I now know exactly how much she takes and feel more comfortable reducing the bottle feeds of breast milk! I am also hoping to donate my surplus to the milk bank :) There is nothing more priceless than the ability to exclusively breastfeed at the breast and although we are not there yet - with the help for these amazing centers' effort to go above and beyond to help me rent this scale, we are getting there one weighted feed at a time! I would never allow myself or my loved ones under their care. They don't even know what city they are in! The nurse on the phone gave my supervisors the wrong address of the hospital and I had gone to a completely different city because of it. I called the nurse station myself and was given the wrong address and room number for my patient again. I figured to just drive over to Burlingame since the San Mateo hospital clearly did not have the patient there. Once arrived, no one helps you as you stand in front of the nurse station. When I waited over 10 minutes (after driving from one hospital to the other) a nurse just rudely told me to go to the patient's room. No check in, no questions, no ID, NOTHING. Not hospital protocol. The room they gave me was also wrong. The nurse asked if I saw the patient in the room. No! The door is closed. You don't just let strangers walk into patient rooms anyhow. Then the manager announced he is the manager and did absolutely NOTHING. Just like the other 5 people and 2 at the front station. I knew the room number was wrong anyway because there wasn't anyone in the room number they gave us. So another nurse just opened a door and let me in. They asked me if I had an appointment after opening the door though and not even checking if the patient knew who I was. There is not a single ounce of professionalism in that chaotic bunch. I had to apologize profusely for the staff's behavior and lack of professionalism, making sure the patient knew I was not affiliated with them. Patient was kind and respectful because he knew of our appointment and that I was there to provide social services, resources, housing and food assistance because the hospital gave zero F that the patient was unhoused, lacking all necessary resources and needed support. Once a patient is recovering they're just in the room listening to the nurses gossip and bs all day. I have so much empathy for people having medical issues, social anxiety, resource constraints and being treated like nothing. This is what the patients get here on the 3rd floor.
