I looked into places where you have to mail the hard drive to them, but I'm so glad I decided to go locally with Drive-Rescue instead. I was able to drop it off directly with Scott and know it got there okay (no damage in transit). It took 2 weeks, but I was more than fine with waiting. I did call a week in just to make sure I hadn't missed any contact from them, and they said that my drive with encrypted so it was a bit more difficult. I was super nervous but a week later, they called to say they were able to recover everything! It's a lot of money (minimum for fixing an external hard drive is $350-400+ and mine was ~$650 I believe), but COMPLETELY worth it. I'm so, so grateful to them and now need to figure out how to clone the external hard drive so I always have two copies.

Because they were going to be in my area, Devin and James (hope I'm remembering correctly) stopped by and picked up my hard drive. As soon as Jazmin received it, she began to work her magic on it. When she'd completed working on it, she personally brought it to my house, set it up and checked to make sure of the connectivity and checked various programs to ensure everything was working correctly. As time has passed, I'm appreciating more and more the wonderful job Jazmin did. My Hallmark card program is now working correctly and no longer crashes. Windows 10 is a slower/older program, but in spite of that, it now works faster, thanks to Jazmin. I can't thank them enough for being there for me when I needed help. Let me share with you an awesome experience with the founder and owner of The Device Lab, Austin,…read morewho is calm, cool, collected, down to earth, and who impressed me so much that I feel compelled to share my story here. I would like to express my appreciation of Austin's professional ingenuity and get the word out that he is head and shoulder above Genius Bar in what he does-- device repair. Price is reasonable. Here is the quick story: Last Saturday (08-15-2026) I took my 2016 Apple MacBook Pro to Apple Genius Bar for diagnostic and repair, where I was received with utmost courtesy, waited there patiently for 1.5 hours, witnessed my computer given all kinds of diagnostic tactics by the receptionist, who did with all her earnest effort to revive it. Unfortunately I had to leave Genius Bar with the announcement that my MacBook Pro is "beyond repair." Unconvinced, I tried my luck on another store from online search and found The Device Lab, and Austin fixed it! Well, an old computer is an old computer and there is no need for much fuss or excitement about this triviality. But Austin left me with another impression: his sincerity and ability to do what he sets out to do, which is to repair. What can be cooler than a man who delivers his promise by doing what he likes and is good at? I spoke to Austin and found his business philosophy reasonable and truthful: doing what he likes, helping people, figuring out the cause of problem, getting things fixed without having to resort to replacement ( a favorite recommendation from big companies...). Behind this work ethic and principle is another guideline that directs his work: trust from his customers. I like that! O, by the way, there is another reason that urged me to write this review for Austin. He told me he started this company over a year ago, and I see in him what I had to go through back in 2004, when I started having my own tutoring center. I understand how a small business like his lives on word of mouth among customers, as it was with my own company. I also understand how negative comments tend to travel ten times faster than good, appreciative feedback. I think it is fair and natural that I share my thoughts with those who may be viewing his website for selection. One more thing: I live locally, and I love supporting local small business! What really stood out to me was that they actually had the screen in stock, every other place I called had to order it and told me it would take a couple of days, plus they were quoting me $20-$40 more. Not only was The Device Lab able to do the repair the same day but their pricing was super fair. On top of that, the vibe of the shop is honestly amazing. The moment I walked in, I noticed how warm and welcoming everything felt. I even complimented the owner because it's so different from the typical plain, white-wall repair shops. It felt chic, cozy, and thoughtfully put together. Love how he immediately gave the credit to his wife, you can tell he is extremely proud of her work and rightfully so because I would hire her to make my business look as cute as The Device Lab. Great service, great pricing, and a beautiful space. highly recommend! Thank you again, I know my Daughter needs an upgrade but the IPhone 11 will do for now.
