I called ahead specifically to say I would be late because of traffic. The call center confirmed it was okay. That should have been the end of it. Instead, I received a follow-up call from the office that immediately felt tense and uncoordinated. I was asked "exactly how late will you be?" in a tone that felt more like I was being reprimanded than simply checked in on. After explaining again, I was told about a 15-minute grace period, followed by a very pointed warning that if I wasn't there by 4:18, I would not be seen. There was no effort to reconcile the conflicting information between the call center and the office. No flexibility. No attempt at understanding. Just a rigid rule delivered in a way that made a routine delay feel like a problem I was being scolded for. What makes this stand out is how avoidable it all was. I had a really frustrating experience at this dental office. My appointment started off poorly when I was left waiting for over an hour past my scheduled time just to see the dentist. There was little communication or acknowledgment of the delay, which made it even more disappointing. After finally being seen, I then had to wait an additional 45 minutes for the hygienist. When they eventually came in, instead of a routine cleaning, I was told I needed a "deeper cleaning" that wasn't covered by my insurance and would require an extra out-of-pocket charge of $500. I specifically mentioned that I only wanted the cleaning covered by my insurance. The doctor was very pleasant and explained specifically why I needed a deeper cleaning which I definitely appreciated, but not ready to pay $500. If there were issues with scheduling or if a different type of cleaning was anticipated, it would have been more respectful to communicate that upfront rather than wasting 2 hours of my day to not even get a simple cleaning. They will schedule you for a routine cleaning, then tell you when you arrive that one isn't available and push you to come back for a "deep cleaning", which they claim insurance doesn't cover. It does. This is how it starts. From there, expect to be charged for procedures before your insurance has even been billed, with no transparency about what you actually owe. For two years, I was falsely diagnosed with periodontal disease, leading to costly out-of-pocket cleanings that were not covered by insurance. I have been charged over $2,000 for unnecessary services, and Sage Dental has consistently failed to bill my insurance correctly. Last month, they pressured me into an unnecessary and expensive deep cleaning which they stated was necessary for treating my periodontal disease. After this procedure I suffered severe, prolonged pain for over a week which ultimately requiring emergency intervention by another provider. After seeking several additional opinions, several providers later confirmed that Sage Dental misdiagnosed my condition, and their medically unnecessary treatment actually contributed to a serious dental emergency. Multiple second opinions, including from a periodontist, have since confirmed that I did not have periodontal disease and did not need the treatments they pushed on me. When I requested my medical records to seek additional consultations, the front desk refused to provide access to my records which was not only suspicious but illegal and violated HIPAA laws. Only after weeks of escalated calls and emails, and threats of legal action, was I finally given access to my own medical records. This practice has been reported to the state ethics board and is currently under investigation for insurance fraud and malpractice. Do not trust this place. I've never experienced more shady business practices than I have with this facility. Do not go here unless you want to be misled and overcharged. Sage uses fear practices to scare you into thinking you need treatments you don't, and then leaves you with a huge surprise bill you have to pay. I am being charged $394 for services I received that I was explicitly told were covered by my insurance. The dental hygienist told me I had periodontal disease and that I needed a deep cleaning. I was explicitly told that my insurance would only cover this treatment if I did it in two sessions - one side on one date, and the other side about 10 days later. I was charged $56 in person and told my insurance would cover the rest of the treatment. But now I am being charged $394 and told that I must pay this because my insurance will not cover this portion. I was misled by being told 1) that I NEEDED these treatments, and 2) that they were covered by my insurance. It is the responsibility of the medical provider to contact the patient's insurance to determine what services are covered, and communicate this information to the patient. Now I am being told there is nothing that can be done, and these fees will go to collections if I do not pay them. Do not go here. It was my mistake for not reading the reviews as well. How does this office manage to receive one-star? They extracted good teeth to convince me to accept an upper denture when a bridge was a better choice. The denture is extremely uncomfortable, anything firmer than mashed potatoes is like needles piercing my gums. Company profit is the top goal, not your comfort or welfare. To clean four teeth was $294.00, and took less than 5 minutes. I found those teeth are needed for a lower bridge, and the cleaning was completely unnecessary. Go anywhere not there. read more

I went in as a new patient for my normal cleaning and x rays. after my x rays I was told I had no new cavities, but it would be beneficial for me to have two of my current fillings removed and replaced with porcelain (no pain, discomfort, or looseness so unsure why anyone would ever recommend this) and an intermediate cleaning, as well as some other services. I was then quoted $2,300 for all services! I requested only to have my regular cleaning and was told they cannot do a regular cleaning, but could do the more expensive "intermediate" cleaning. I left and am going to a different dentist. I have called my insurance and let them know about the situation as I am now being charged by this place for x rays and an exam. Very shady business. Went in for a cleaning, services were done (normal cleaning) and then was surprised by the receptionist for the cost of the services that were not covered by my insurance (AETNA). I reluctantly paid for all of the services even though I was not told how much every service would cost. Two months later I received a bill in the mail asking me to pay 288 dollars more (this was a normal cleaning). Please stay away and go to a local dentist. Received a call that they had an opening for a cleaning for the next day instead of having to wait until my appointment end of month so I agreed. when I get to the office, in the middle of the morning, I am told that if I stay and get my cleaning, the insurance wouldn't cover because I was 2 weeks short of my 6 months. Why didn't someone look at that before calling me! I had to drive half an hour each way, waste my time and gas. I called the office manager and I have yet to get a response. Everyone is so friendly here it's crazy No exaggeration I got 4 wisdom teeth taken out, 2 root canals and 2 crowns. They were always patient and understanding when I had to cancel my appointments a couple times, they didn't even charge me a cancellation fee - which I really appreciate. They're good people. Did anyone receive any satisfactory reply from the "quality assurance team"? This office is extremely shady. Criminals I should say. They sold me an orthodontic treatment stating that my insurance would cover more than 50% of the total cost. I asked them several times to confirm this coverage information and they stated they had confirmed and even provided me with a treatment plan including such insurance discounts/benefits. Weeks into the treatment, I was surprised with an invoice with a much larger amount than agreed on in the office. I called the office immediately and I was REASSURED over the phone once again that the terms included in the treatment plan document would be honored and that I should disregard the invoice because "it came from the corporate office" - Months later, they did not let me continue my treatment for lack of payment as they simply said "your insurance status is not active and they will not cover it" - Meanwhile, nothing had absolutely changed with my dental insurance coverage. Criminals. What else do you expect from a Miami based doctors office? I went in for a routine cleaning but of course they need to do X-rays even though I've had them done a year ago. They refused to accept my X-rays from another office. Oh well; I agreed to do it so this is on me. When I'm there I asked if I can get a cleaning. They sent in a "hygenist" who was prodding me with the gum pick so hard it hurts to eat right now. I was trying to be a tough guy and suck it up while he was doing it, I thought maybe he was just a bit rough by mistake. But he was doing it so hard to purposefully make me bleed to convince me I have gum disease and that I need a $5,000 cleaning. Attached is the estimate. He was mentioning how my gums are bleeding as to why I need it. But the only reason they were bleeding is because he was pushing so hard. I do not have gum disease and all I wanted was a normal checkup and cleaning. Even after my resistance, they insisted I sign the attached estimate so I acknowledge it, but in fine print it says "you are financially responsible". When I mentioned this to the assistant she got mad and turned around. I do not plan on paying my X-ray bill and will escalate this to my insurance, sage corporate as well as any legal action regarding the injuries inflicted on my gums because of the sleazy hygenist. I can confirm ALL the awful previous reviews as they will lure you in by seeming like a legit dental office to then charge you all sorts of bogus services/items including the tongue scraper, floss and the mouth wash they give you on your way out from your visit. I had to ask for an itemized bill twice due to my suspicions. At first, ALdis reassured these items would be taken off the bill and reimbursed by corporate. After multiple follow ups and months later, ALDIs states there are no reimbursement?!(these items were returned yet still charged) Deceitful through and through. I made an appointment through ZocDoc since I'm new to the area and this office was close. I scheduled a routine dental checkup. They left me sitting in the chair for 30 minutes just to come back and do X-rays. I wanted to learn about corrective treatments for my teeth when before I knew it an iPad was shoved in my face and they made me sign a bunch of things forms. Then the manager claimed they had a "great promotional deal" for Invisalign and assured me I could do a super easy payment plan. Turns out they run your credit to see if you qualify for the bogus credit card to do the financing. Care Credit is an absolute scam and it's criminal they even encourage people to get it. I only came for a teeth cleaning which I didn't even receive and I was there for over an hour and a half. I felt so swindled and now I have to figure out how to stop all this so I'm not locked into a financing scam. read more

The only upside is that they can take patients quick, today they wanted to charge me 460$ before i even took my mask off. I had scheduled a regular cleaning covered by insurance and they decided to schedule a deep cleaning which costs 3 times as much and is not covered. Sage Dental gave me a low quote for a night guard, gave me paperwork stating my insurance covered 80% while I was in the dentist chair at a routine visit.  I called the insurance company and found it was 80% covered, BUT ONLY IF IT WAS NEEDED AFTER ORAL SURGERY.  Sage Dental conveniently left that last part of the sentence off of their own paperwork when they quoted me. Took me a two minute phone call to find out what they could have told me upfront.  I have to pay for the entire night guard because of their mistake.  I have been trying to resolve this for the past six months.  They are very slow to reply despite my insistence.  I understand an estimate is an estimate, but to go from $80 to over $450 is EXTORTION.  My goals were to prevent this extortion and get them to change their internal paperwork they give to patients.  Because this exact same thing is going to happen to the next person who is told they need a night guard, has a Guardian PPO plan and mistakenly trusts them when they show you paperwork stating it is 80% covered.   How many other people out there with a Guardian PPO, who were told they needed a night guard immediately while in the chair and have gotten stuck with this bill? This was also the first time I was seeing a different dentist which was a surprise to me. I don't know what happened to Dr. Vera, but I've been seeing him for years. To add to all of this, Dr. Vera NEVER mentioned a night guard to me. I have no doubt this new dentist did not review my records properly and was probably trying to make an impression by hard selling patients in the chair. At my expense. Six months ago I went to my regular dentist of over 20 years to get my cleaning and discuss the possibility of getting crown for my entire mouth because I have bite that slightly crooked. It isn't noticeable but if i continue, eventually it will be a big issue. I also grind my teeth at night, and am currently using a night guard. My dentist is not equipped to do that major work so I decided to start a new decade with a new state of the art office for dentistry. I went to SAGE Dental where my the lady at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with. The Dentist's assistant was wonderful and nice. The Detist himself was very very nice. I proceeded to have my mouth checked, got x-rays done of my entire mouth and the dentist confirmed what others had said about my slightly unaligned bite. They also don't do that kind of work there and would require a referral to a specialist. In other words, other than the visit and x-rays, SAGE dental wasn't going to make any more money from me. What I needed done would probably cost me anywheres from $18K-$20K, but somewhere else. I wanted to wait till Nov. 1st and get the better dental plan. Other than my bite, I have perfect teeth. I have never had a cavity. My parents, both in their eighties, god bless them,don't even have cavities. My brothers, none of them have cavities. I get cleanings every 6 months, and floss every single day and my gums have never ever bled, yet at SAGE Dental, I was told I had "severe gum disease" and if I didn't get a "DEEP CLEANING" costing me $975plus dollars plus a filling from a slight shadow they noticed on the x-rays, costing another $115 or so dollars because that was a "cavity". I stupidly scheduled the deep cleaning to be done in 2 parts. After a week of pondering the absurdity of this new-found GUM INFESTED mouth, I decided to cancel the scheduled deep cleaning. I waited six months to get another cleaning at my regular dentist and asked about the condition of my gums. They said I had perfect gums and teeth, but a crooked bite and bottom teeth that I am slowly but surely grinding. I get this happening at a store, at a mechanics, at a nightclub. Everything is a business and a profit is the ultimate goal. But when it happens at a Dentist's office. It is insulting and offensive. MORAL: GET A SECOND OPINION ALWAYS!!!!!! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE FOR DENTAL SERVICES. I had the single worst medical experience of my life with these people. And to top it all off the office manager LIZ told me to, "just deal with it and move on". The lack of profesionalism, compassion and paient care was unbelivable. OR MAYBE MY SKIN WAS THE WRONG COLOR. After two days of working on my upper wisdom teeth my head was throbbing with pain. My jaw muscles and neck muscles were extremely sore. The doctor would not prescribe me anything strong for pain told me to take some Motrin. The Motrin was not stopping the pain I informed them (SAGE DENTAL) I was in a great deal of discomfort from the previous dental work , and I will continue the rest of my treatment plan once my crown came back; to give me a chance to get over the intial discomfort. Sage Dental throughout the mold disregarded the crown and did not reschedule me for any appointment. I call them two weeks later to check on the status of my crown and to schedule the appointment to have it put in place. They informed me that I could come back in get a new mold because the old one has been thrown out. I asked why and they told me because I missed an appointment. That appointment had nothing to do with the crown. I was going to have old fillings replaced. Do to discomfort and pain I was unable to continue at that time, and just wanted to fill better before we continued. I called them on a Thursday and requested to speak with the manager LIZ. and got no reply. The following Friday [28 June 2019] I called them back. And was spoken to in a very disrespectful tone by the office manager LIZ. They know there in the wrong that's why they refused to call me back. Sage Dental is a Chop Shop. They are trying to make as much money as they can as fast as they can. Because they lost Revenue they disregarded my crown disregarded my service and disregarded me as a person there is no reason why that was done other than lack of personal respect and loss of revenue. read more

I went in last year for a regular cleaning covered by insurance and was told my gums were inflamed and I needed a special cleaning that was not covered (which I stupidly paid for because I believed them). Then I was told I had 4 cavities which would cost over $1,000 to fill. The next day I flew home to visit family and while there I saw a local dentist. He said my gums were NOT at all inflamed, and it's actually rare for someone in their 20s to need a special cleaning. He then examined my teeth and said he found ZERO cavities. Fast forward to this year, I returned to Sage for my 6 month cleaning since my insurance covers it. This time, they told me I had SEVEN cavities and was on the verge of needing a root canal if I didn't fill one of them. I was quoted over $2,200 for fillings. I just went to a local dentist in Boca for a THIRD opinion. He said I had the best teeth he'd seen all day and absolutely no evidence of ANY cavities. He explained that Sage is a corporate chain that has to meet quotas to satisfy investors and that no good dentist would ever work there. I truly feel awful for every person who's been taken advantage of by this place because they didn't know better. I 100 percent do not recommend this dental office the level of unprofessionalism is outstanding and the front desk attendant should not be working in a position where customer service is provided. She had no manners and was rude I asked multiple times to speak to someone in a higher position I was told I would get a call back and never did. She did not attempt to help in any way or problem solve instead she decided to give me attitude when all I was looking for was a solution!! I should have looked at there reviews before scheduling the appointment but it was an emergency... on top of that they are always behind and will make you wait for hours!!! I would not book an appointment here again and will advise others not to as well! Disgust is the word I would use to describe how I feel after attending this office. I hope they look into there employees and work on better vetting them for a position where they have to interact with upset customers!!!!
