My wife and I went to Sage for the first time this week, and it was fantastic. We got four different pastries, including the sticky toffee pastry and the honey lavender scone. They were all very good. I really enjoyed my French toast latte, and my wife liked her maple latte. We will definitely be back to try all the other pastries that frankly looked incredible in the display cases. This is the best place in Columbia to find delicious baked goods. Coming from the Kansas City metro area, my expectations for food are probably a little higher than most people in Columbia. I went to Sage with two friends and we had to wait a bit to find seating because it was so busy. The restaurant itself is pretty small and tight, so it was definitely on the louder side with everyone sitting close together, but it wasn't unbearable or anything worth complaining about. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. The croissant itself was buttery and flaky, which I liked, but overall I wasn't very impressed, especially for the price. It just felt like something I could make at home for cheaper and probably better. One of my friends ordered the waffle though and said it was the best waffle he's ever had. He liked it so much that he ordered a second one, so that's definitely a positive. read more

A great breakfast option in Columbia! This was some of the best coffee I've bought from a cafe in a really long time. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options but I tried the Samoas latte and it was amazing! To eat I had the spinach quiche. I really enjoyed the crust and it was so good I had to order a second one before I left. My sister had the avocado toast. The pickled onions were a nice touch! We stepped in for a quick lunch and sadly the kitchen was closed. The coffee shop was relaxing and had comfortable seating. There was a wide variety on the menu to drink and the pastries looked yummy. We didn't stay as we needed more food than treats. The staff was friendly and gave us suggestions on where to go. Disappointing experience at Sage this weekend. First the positive: this little coffee shop has an adorable interior with cute fixtures and fresh flowers, so I had high hopes. We came in for a quick coffee and snack, but ended up just going with drinks because they were sold out of food. The baristas were short and it seemed like a pretentious and uninviting atmosphere. I went to sage for the first time and was really impressed. I was stopping somewhere before going back to St. Louis just for a little coffee and breakfast. This was absolutely perfect and exactly what I needed. You can stop in quick like me or sit down and order something bigger if that's what you want. I got an iced pumpkin spiced latte which was phenomenal, really one of the better ones i've had. I also got this custard strawberry danish which was great. There was more custard on it than it looks like, enough for every bite. I had a great trip here and the service was good. Sage is a lovely place where I am frequently doomed to spend all of my money. Having assumed the spot of a previous local favorite, Coffee Zone, they had big shoes to fill but seem to have delivered. With a kind staff and an avant-garde menu to boot, I can confidently say that Sage ought to be around for a while. Their almond cardamom teacake is definitely a hallmark menu item for a reason. It is delicate and crumby while still being both flavorful and moist. Although it is a shame to see the Coffee Zone and their rugelach counter go, their bakery has been substantively replaced and upscaled. Local touchstones like Fretboard and Shortwave have got some newfound and stiff competition in this daring cafe that hazards to spotlight a banana nut latte among their specials, especially because they have yet to take a risk that has fallen short. read more

‼If you have allergies DO NOT go here‼I have had a tree nut allergy for 18 years and not once has a waiter told me "they would advise me not to eat at the restaurant". How do people who work in the FOOD industry not know how to make accommodations for people with FOOD allergies? In the past waiters and waitresses either tell the kitchen about my allergy and they will clean the utensils or they will point me in the direction of another item I am able to have on the menu. He handled the situation very poorly and overall I would not go back or recommend it to people who have allergies.
