Golden fried pomfret
Sophie C.

Plenty of parking in a plaza with many other businesses. Doesn't stand out but a nice find here! On a Friday night there were was no wait at all, but did notice they did a lot of takeouts as well. Service was attentive, even with a little one in tow. There was another baby on high chair at the next table and let's say the food was everywhere, including the floor. But the staff made no complaints and just cleaned it all up afterwards. Kudos for that. However I did find the tables to be somewhat sticky and that kind of bothered me no matter how hard I tried to scrub with my own wipes. Food wise it was a good surprise. I was expecting meh but we finished the entire butter chicken (comes with rice) and a side order of naan. The little one literally cleaned her plate and didn't leave a drop of the sauce left. Asked for more and more. The fried pomfret was perfect, nothing burnt or overcooked. Fish was very easy to debone. Will definitely be back to try other dishes!

Murg Shahi Korma

We ordered tikka masala, murg shahi korma and garlic naans. Tikka Masala was amazing. So flavorful and rich. Murg shahi korma was also great, but lighter compared to what I usually ate in other places, so tikka masala was a highlight of the meal. Garlic naans were above average - good but nothing special. Coming back for more tikka masala. Also the portions were not that big

Chicken Tikka Masala & Garlic Naan

This little shopping center has a ton of small restaurants so it's easy to get lost in the mix. I've somehow never eaten at saffron and was excited to try it for lunch as it was in such an easy location. We got there when they opened and were their first patrons for the day. We were greeted immediately and our server was friendly and attentive. We had two children and they were quick to bring over the high chairs we needed. This small detail earned them five stars immediately, so many restaurants treat children like an annoyance. Our server was great with treating them like people. As for the menu, it had a ton of options. I'm not super familiar with all of the items but it all sounded great. I got the chicken tikka masala with white rice and an order of garlic naan. The portions seemed smaller than some Indian restaurants I've been too but they were perfect for one person, I had a little bit leftover so nothing major. I got "medium" spice and wish I had asked for it to be a little spicier as that was fairly mild. That being said the flavor was phenomenal. The garlic naan was so so so so good. I was annoyed with myself for not having more space in my body to eat more. We will definitely be back.

Steel wool shards?

The food was okay overall. I ordered the lamb pasanda and saag paneer, which were both solid. However, the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala tasted identical -- both overwhelmingly tomatoey, with very little distinct flavor or Indian seasoning. The dal makhani was more like a plain lentil stew than a proper Indian dish -- not bad, just completely lacking the creaminess or depth you'd expect. I'm also glad we didn't eat there. As my son pointed out, the place smelled like a public restroom -- a mix of cleaning chemicals and something unpleasant underneath. The floors were filthy, and while I was waiting for my food, I watched one of the workers packing up a to-go order sneeze directly onto the containers twice, then turn and sneeze a third time into his hand -- which he didn't wash. I could literally see the spray land on the food. I seriously considered asking for a refund on the spot. Note: after continuing to eat I discovered something on my mouth too tough to eat. after pulling it out, it seems to be steel wool shards from a cleaning sponge. Picture attached.

Dal Makhani, flavorful, but over the top grease. Take a closer look.

the food last weekend showed promise for a return visit. Big issue is how greasy both the spinach chicken Lazeez and the dahl makhani were. They had flavor and it was plenty spicy as I requested. But the grease was over the top. The garlic naan was very good. In the past, I ordered saag paneer and thought it was ordinary. All said, I would go back there. Try some more things while instructing them to hold back on the grease.

Chili Chicken Momo

I ordered the chili chicken momo to go for lunch and they were delicious! Food was hot when I picked it up and well wrapped to prevent leaks. The momos were fat and tasty and the sauce was just spicy enough to make my nose run! The sauce is a little sweeter than I'd personally prefer but really no complaints it was bomb.

Paneer Tikka Masala, Saffron Chicken Lazeez, and Garlic Naan

I've been to both locations but I'll give a boost to this spot. There's really not much to say. When Indian food is done well, you just know. All the dishes we tried had a wonderful harmony of flavors and made us realize that THIS is the place to go for Indian food if you reside in central/downtown Austin. Paneer Tikka Masala - delicious. Plenty of additional curry to dip your naan into. Chicken Lazeez - This was a little different than the typical spinach (palak) dishes we get at other restaurants. But wow, this was tasty and addicting. Definitely recommend. Chili Momo - another dish that was familiar yet different. We've had momos before (Nepalese dumplings) and we've had chicken chili, which is a Nepalese flavor that is something in between an Indian and Chinese flavor profile. But we never had momos in the chili sauce. This was fantastic! Satisfying portions, great service, and happy bellies. If you want Indian food, GO HERE.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Best Indian food in Austin. From what I understand, Indian food can be subtly different depending upon the region and this restaurant mostly represents Southern India regions. We have been to the other location of which we are big fans and I can say they are extremely consistent with their food. This visit we came on a Saturday evening and although they were busy, we were able to get a table quickly with no reservations. I'm sure everything on the menu is great, but our favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Murg Shahi Korma and the Garlic Naan is amazing! This time we also had the Chicken Biryani. If you enjoy Chicken Tikka Masala, you need to come here! We order it "medium" spice and it's just the right amount. Even if you don't like things spicy, I recommend getting it medium. I have never had Chicken Murg before Saffron but it's boneless with a creamy cashew and pistachio sauce. Again, recommend ordering it medium spice. It's a chicken dish identical to the Tikka Masala but just a different sauce, but it's an amazing sauce! It's obvious they make the Naan bread and bake it fresh when you order it. I've had garlic naan before and at other places, you can barely taste the garlic and the breads taste like they have been premade. This the naan bread here tastes fresh out of the oven and made the minute you order and not made ahead of time. The Biryani is also very good. If you have never had Indian food before, you will be pleasantly surprised if you come here and just start with the Chicken Tikka Masala and naan bread. If you enjoy Indian food, you must come here. We live about 45 minutes away and this is our "go to" for Indian food. The only thing we don't like is the way they handle the check. The servers are very friendly, but when it's time for the check, they bring it to you with an electronic device and the server just stands there hovering over you. It's incredibly annoying to have someone standing there who won't go away until you have decided on a tip and paid. I couldn't even see how to review the check so I just have to assume I'm not being charged for anything I didn't order. The other Saffron will leave the bill, like EVERY other restaurant, allow you time to look the bill over and take your time. But here, they stand over you and won't leave until you have selected a tip and paid. Very rude.

Chicken Tikka Kabab cooked to perfection

Note: this review is for take out. We ordered takeout and the food was out of this world. We were genuinely impressed with everything we ordered = the Saffron Chicken Lazeez, Baigan Bhartha, Chicken Tikka Kebab, and Kolonji Paneer Tikka. Each dish had its own distinct flavor profile. you could taste the delicious smoked eggplant in the Baigan Bhartha. The Saffron chicken Lazeez was unlike anything I've ever had and again the flavors and textures just meshed so well together! The Kolonji Paneer Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Kabob were both cooked to perfection. Personally, I prefer Indian restaurants that use minimal oil and pay meticulous attention to crafting specific flavors for each dish. This place is my new favorite and I will definitely be back!

Achari Aloo Lamb. Great!

I thought this place was pretty good. A few things were hit or miss, but for the most part very tasty, with friendly service. Came here with a colleague for lunch. There was hardly anyone there when we arrived, but a good crowd came in while we dined. We both ordered samosas. I got the Achari Aloo Lamb, and my friend got a chicken tikka masala. Some garlic naan as well. Have to say that the entree was fantastic - hearty and spiced just right (the waiter and I had discussed spice options). Very flavorful. The samosas and naan - not so much. Not bad, just kind of bland. I'd like to try some other things. Fast friendly service. Check it out.

It is the type of day that makes you want to eat comfort food. Bombay to Kathmandu was the ideal place for some lentil soup and naan. My soup was steaming hot and my naan quite tasty. Walking into Bombay to Kathmandu feels like being transported around the world. The beaded curtains, tin doors and other Indian Nepali artifacts made the place appear authentic. I placed my order with the cashier, who was warm and welcoming. The menu is remarkably diverse, offering classic Indian favorites alongside traditional Nepali dishes, which makes it stand out. The restaurant is known for its momos, curry dishes and aromatic sauces. Importantly, there are plenty of options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Their creative fusion items, including curry inspired pizzas are their specialties. My soup was quite generous and filling. Prices are reasonable, and the food consistently delivers big on taste. The staff was friendly and willing to help with spice levels and menu recommendations.
