We dined in at Saffrons for the first time recently, despite having ordered take out from them previously. They've been on Parsons Road for 6+ years now. The restaurant itself is clean, and reminds me of a party room. We really enjoyed our food, and the service was spectacular as well. The restaurant was busy. Our faves were the goat korma, butter chicken, samosas and Ofc one can never go wrong with some garlic naan. We will definitely be back!

We missed going out on fathers day so my daughter took us out for dinner and we tried this new resturant. Eating here first time we were a lil anxious but They follow all of covid precautions. Sanitizers at all doors & near washroom. Tables are far apart. Ambience -nice , simple & elegant. Soft music playing. 2 tvs - one showing news & the other sports. Both were muted. Staff- very knowledgeable and friendly Service- excellent. Food - yummy. Everything was well balanced & delicious. Theres vegan options as well. Will definitely eat here again

Lunch special lamb korma and an order of samosa. 2 samosas and I ate one before snapping the photo.

This is my third time here and same as always, no crowd. Actually the most I've ever seen is one other table occupied. Therefore you'd think this place is not very good, right? You couldn't be more wrong. The first time we stumbled here I had great food. Lunch special lamb korma. It was empty except for me and my coworkers. Maybe I got lucky? Nope, second time it was just as good. Finally I'm resigned to think that this place is either busy at night or great at catering or maybe the owner is rich and doesn't care. Regardless, best Indian food I've had. The samosa is the best I've had and I've had plenty.

After a few visits of forgetting my entire day after a few bites.. this is my favourite Indian restaurant in Edmonton. Ignoring picky food bloggers who focus on percieved service maybe because they don't know the food - my advice is to show up with a hungry stomach, and open heart and hopefully will let you experience it as I did: - Local, authentic and good. The pleasant family that runs this restaurant reflects in the food, service was thoughtful and caring. Food is not heavy and is on the healthy side of Indian food, unlike places who cheat with excess cream, salt and oil. - Well priced, generously portioned. Solid takeout candidate. It's like being force fed at a Punjabi friend's house. If you don't have a Punjabi friend, you're missing out. - My wife is originally from Vancouver, and regularly pokes me about the average Indian food in Edmonton, which I have started to agree with the more restaurants we have explored. This place made her remember meals in Vancouver. - Spiciness - sometimes I don't get the spice level I want either. Indian restaurants don't want people to have a bad experience. it's perfectly normal to ask for a side of cut chilli's and mix it in yourself, or bite out of whole chillis. This restaurant would be a 4 or 4.5 in Vancouver (or higher), and is easily worthy of the 5 stars for an Edmonton restaurant. I would let them cater a house party anytime. Recommended (tried so far) : fish pakoras, chicken biryani, chollay (chickpeas) and purian.

Saffron Indian Cuisine has been on my radar to try since I read about it in the Journal. That was half a year ago. This little plaza has some great spots including TeaCup2Go and Mi Casa Market, which are hidden on the back side of the building. You'll spot Saffron from the main road. We came on a Monday evening and had six in our group meaning we could try sooooo many things! The inside is modern, bright and spacious; we were seated at the only round table. Our waitress was great and checked on us throughout our meal. She even asked what level of heat we wanted (medium for my table mate weaklings). - Tandoori veggies ($14.00) - this came out sizzling; it even had some heat to it. This was probably the "spiciest" dish. - Paneer tikka (dry) ($14.00) - I'm not normally a huge paneer fan but these were hella good. Also came out on a sizzling platter. Something about frying cheese makes it extra flavourful. - 2x Coconut stuffed naan ($4.00) - addictively good. GET IT. It was perfect on its own or dipped with any of the sauces. Easily everyone's favourite of the night. - Spinach stuffed naan ($4.00) - the other stuffed naan we tried was the spinach. Good. - Coconut rice ($6.00) - very coconuty and aromatic; this was gone quickly. - Karela masala (bitter gourd) ($14.00) - FYI bitter gourd = bitter melon. Bitter melon is great; only other place I've seen it in town is at Sambol. - Matar mushroom ($14.00) - this one I found pretty plain but the sauce was tangy sweet from the tomatoes. - Bhindi masala ($14.00) - can never go wrong with okra when it's done right. - Lamb masala ($18.00) - the only meat entree we ordered but it was a very generous portion; the lamb was well seasoned and tender. Yum. - Vegetable biryani ($13.00) - biryani was simple and subtle in flavour but I liked the chunks of tomato in it. - Dal makhani ($13.00) - I can't say I'm a huge lentil fan; it was quite heavy compared to the other dishes we ordered. - Plain tandoor roti ($2.00) - pretty basic compared to the stuffed naans but had a chewier texture. - Moong dal halwa ($8.00) - texture was great; it was like an Indian version of corn bread but lighter, moister (you can taste the butter) and a nice sprinkling of pistachio and sliced almonds. - Kulfi falooda ($6.00) - fresh strawberries, a noodlesque topping (reminded me of Vietnamese chi desserts) and ice cream underneath. The ice cream was a bit icy but it didn't distract too much. Everything was fresh, light and tasty. Our bill was very reasonable given how much we ordered. We'll be back to tackle the rest of the menu.

Saffron is new in Edmonton. We really enjoyed the food and ambiance. Staff was really courteous friendly and knowledgable. Food was pretty good. We tried there different dishes they all were pretty good. We ordered Double Tadka Daal, and it was delicious. If you can handle spice go for it. Request the chef to prepare this double Tadka Daal and I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Service was denied to a friend of mine because he had his service dog with him. Very disappointing to hear that the staff was rude and unwilling to hear him explain that by law, service dogs are allowed to be in public spaces, including restaurants. Very discriminatory and unfortunate. Please take the time to familiarize yourselves with this act so you can better accommodate future customers.

A short and simple review. Some of the best Indian food we've had. Highly recommended. We ordered butter chicken, chicken vindaloo. Appetizer was classic samosa; wow that was an amazing starter. Nice clean restaurant with cozy atmosphere. We will be back!

The indo-Asian menu seemed like someone's best attempt at home cooking, and the Hakka noodles were not fully cooked! The server was either stressed or was unable to understand our order, she walked away while we were ordering and came back several times to confirm our order. When we complained that the dosa was too hard to our liking, she gave us a blank stare and asked if we wanted more dosa. Despite the more modern interior decor, the poor tasting food and poor service unfortunately completely turned us away from returning. Really disappointing!!

The…read morebutter chicken stopped being as good at the place where I used to love it and every restaurant that I'd try was starting to taste the same. For a city that actually has a ton of Indian food available, I really needed to shake things up and to try something new. Enter Suvai Dosa's, named Best Indian Restaurant 2023 in EDify Magazine. I'd never heard of them before but eagerly headed down to Ellerslie Industrial to taste everything that I could. And boy am I glad that I did. The location isn't much to look at. It's in a strip mall and the windows are covered in brightly-coloured images of their food. Entering the little restaurant, you are not met with a space of fine decor or grandeur. It's honestly more like a hole-in-the-wall cafeteria and I was truthfully filled with feelings of doubt. There are booths along the circumference of the room and the walls are brightly painted in lime green, orange and red. I did, however, appreciate the TV showing only Bollywood music videos and the great Indian music that was continuously playing. We were able to sit wherever we wanted on the Saturday evening of our visit but the restaurant was also steadily occupied with other patrons. Our server was helpful enough but also seemed slightly perturbed by our questions and entire existence? She also disappeared entirely toward the end of the meal and we had to go up to the counter ourselves for further service. Regardless, the food turned out to be good enough for me not to care about any of that. As always, I started with a Masala Tea ($2.75), which is a traditional chai. This version was excellent. They serve it with sugar but I never add anything to it and am happy to drink it straight. As good of a masala tea that I've had anywhere else, this chai tastes real. It's not the too-sweet coffee chain chai latte made with syrup - it's the real thing. Simmered spices that create a warm, flavourful cup. The cuisine at Suvai Dosa's is specifically South Indian food. I'm not an expert (nor am I pretending to be) and I'm not familiar with which dishes originate from which regions. But what I do know is that this food was unlike any of the Indian food that I've had in the past. Had I previously been eating Northern Indian food? Or just a North American white-washed version of Indian food? I'm not sure. All I know is that something different happened at Suvai Dosa's and it has changed my previous perception of what Indian food is supposed to be quite a lot. We started with the Tiffin section which means a "light meal" or "snack." (Not to be confused with the Starters, which are different.) I wanted to try a bit of everything so the Idly (3pcs) Vada (2pcs) Combo ($12.49) seemed like the best way to achieve a full experience. I didn't know much about what I was ordering but was so ready to learn and to try things. Right away, I loved that the chutneys (dipping sauces) were the colours of the Indian flag. I'd never seen any of these items before. Idly (the warm, white spongy pillows that reminded me a bit of Wonder Bread) are a type of savoury rice cake made by steaming a batter consisting of fermented urad dal (lentils) and rice. It's absorbent and made to sop up sauces, hence the array of chutneys that it was served with. I loved the white chutney that tasted like coconut! The bread is cooked in specially designed molds and comes out perfectly formed. With a delicately earthy lentil flavour and a fermented kick, this was enjoyable to eat. Next was the vada, which looked similar to a pakora to me. These are essentially savoury Indian donuts - fritters made of urad dal (lentils), onions, and spices and fried until golden and crisp. Fun and easy to eat, these tasted great dunked into the sambar (a lentil-based vegetable stew) that was also served on the side. In the Starters section I was extremely close to ordering the Chicken Lollipop (they looked really fun!) but changed it to the Masala Fried Fish (Marinated with spices and Tawa Grilled - $16.99) at the last second. I am so glad that I did! If I had to pick my favourite dish of the whole meal, this would be it. Wow! Two big pieces of fish crusted in the most flavourful array of spices. The outside was slightly crisp with amazing caramelized edges, while the inside was incredibly moist and meaty. Plus there was a big spicy kick for anyone who loves some heat! I will have to order this every time I visit because this dish was gorgeous and the execution was perfection. I've certainly never tasted anything like this at another Indian restaurant before. Of course we needed to try the Suvai Special Dosa's especially since it's the namesake dish of the entire restaurant! Going into this, I had never tried dosa before and wasn't sure what to expect. Interestingly, Suvai Dosa's does NOT serve naan. I found this slightly shocking. But then I started to wonder if the dosa was meant to take its
