Terrible custom service. The woman who helped me (4/15/23) made me feel like my presence was an inconvenience, like I was bothering her by coming to the store to buy flowers. When I told her my budget ($30) she basically rolled her eyes and then proceeded to do nothing to help, suggest, brainstorm, or work with me. She maybe spoke 3 words to me the entire time. The first arrangement she made was genuinely ugly - as if she wanted to prove a point and embarrass me for having such a "low budget"? Or pressure me into spending more? Total with tax was $35. The 3 flowers pictured were $21, which meant the 2 tiny twigs of green filler were $10?? Give me a break. The final kicker? The flowers drooped after 1 day. Will never go back there. read more

I had a negative experience here. The manager asked if I needed help, I said no, and I didn't realize I was standing in the entrance of her shop. While I understand this is a busy area at Essex market, it would've been nice to have a more positive interaction. "excuse me" or "please" or "thank you" can go a long way. I happened to be standing by her store, I didn't realize I was standing in front of the store, and this woman in a unfriendly tone, told me to move, I wish she would've just asked politely. Essex market is such a nice place, it is very frustrating and sad to see such negative behavior there. Frustrated. Update: I tried to call the location in Brooklyn to resolve this, a very nice gentleman answered the phone, and said the manager would call back... Update: I'm updating this review ,I really appreciate that the manager did call back and explained they were trying to manage a busy store location with foot traffic. The manager did say " it wasn't anything personal" I appreciated that. And the manager did say " i'm sorry that you took it that way" - I still have mixed feelings about that phrase. Because I'm not sure if " i'm sorry that you took it that way" is a polite and authentic apology. Although I would've wish for, "I am sorry that I didn't use more positive words" , I certainly do appreciate the call. I understand how busy this market can be, and I'm sure it can be difficult to manage a store in this area, I would wish for more positive kind words and nice interactions going forward. Ordered flowers to be delivered to my partner the Monday before Valentine's Day. Filled out their online order form, clicked some boxes, picked some colors, paid the invoice and then waited. I really had no idea how the arrangement would come out but based on reviews, I had a good feeling. Places like this make me realize how precious and unique Brooklyn is. I love Brooklyn, I am never leaving this borough. Well, unless I get shipped off to overseas. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and I was looking for a gift for my uncle. He loves plants and since I pass by this place everytime I walk home from the subway, I knew they carried plants and flowers. The owners were extremely nice and friendly, especially the woman. She was really warm, laid back, and knowledgeable. How come people like this don't work for Target? Should I even be asking this question? I found a cute little plant that is called a Zebra for my uncle. It is similar to a cactus, but with tentacles and it has the color shading like a Zebra. Hence, the name. The Zebra is a native plant to Mexico and South America. They wrapped up the plant and made it look nice and presentable as a gift. They also carry other things including jewelery, cufflinks, tie clips, plants, flowers, some clothes, light fixtures, and other little trinkets. A great place to find a gift for someone or yourself. Whoever procures goods for this store has good taste. I will be back to get more things. read more

I love love love love Kana, Tetsuji and Saffron. The shop and their work are a dream! I'm a very particular person when it comes to florals and the people I work with. When I was getting married, I emailed a bunch of florists/shops for quotes and prices, and even though Saffron wasn't the quickest to reply, they ended up being the BEST and a dream team to work with. I felt like I was talking to real people, rather than an ever-churning corporate machine. Kana and Tetsuji are artists. They create these personal, stunning, and gorgeously designed wedding florals off of you, what you do, the vibe you give. During the 8 months or so we were in contact, they were crazy busy running their shop, creating amazingly tasteful installations for designers (Jill Stuart) and had a million other projects, and yet made time to make sure I felt heard and taken care of. They adjusted the budget for me multiple times (even till the last minute), listened and incorporated every single one of our concerns, and tactfully talked me out of some of my terrible ideas. I went to Saffron not knowing what I wanted but knowing the vibe and they gave me something better than I could dream of! I gave them all of our trust and they really lived up to all of our expectations. Ordered a bouquet 20-22 hrs before it needed to be delivered, paid $180 (includes tax + delivery). (Chose the "Omakase" option ("Leave it to us!"), but requested roses and tulips.) The bouqet was terrible, barely any roses and no tulips. After 3-5 days the roses started to wilt. They were properly cut and fed food. I contacted saffron via email about the terrible bouquet, and they used the excuse that the order was placed 24 hours before delivery (and also stated tulips weren't in season, which is an acceptable reason): "You had ordered a day before which means we have to use what is available and freshest in store at the time." They said they will refund me $20, but i never received it. It's been 6 months. Pics attached are after 5 days. Don't order from this florist if its 24 hours or less before delivery time, clearly they can't deliver on it and it should be removed as an option from their services. read more

OMG...these people are incredible. Picture this: I'm in Seattle, my wife is flying to NYC on Valentine's Day, and I've been so busy producing a professional conference that I haven't bought flowers. Oh, no! I found Saffron through Yelp (thanks!!!) and ordered at 2am EST on Valentine's DAY. On the order form they clearly stated they could not guarantee delivery after the ordering deadline earlier in the week. I told them it was "my bad" and to just do the best they could, and even Sunday would be fine, since I was ordering so late. Guess what? They delivered a gorgeous bunch of flowers to my wife about 2 hours after she arrived in Brooklyn...about 6pm ON VALENTINE'S DAY. And it snowed that day! Talk about excellence...whew! My wife was thrilled...and I was thrilled that she was thrilled. And they even took the time in the middle of their "crazy busy" day to e-mail me about what they were doing. Incredibly disappointing, ordered flowers Thursday 4/13/17 used my phone the website was mediocre no pics just multiple choice, I gave them the blessings of creating a birthday arrangement for my mom who literally lives less than 10 minutes away, the arrangement cost 75+ tax and a $10 delivery charge which should've been free since my mom lives less than 10 min away. My mom received a very small arrangement that came in a small gift bag and had many dead and wilted flowers on Friday. My mother's birthday was Sat the 15th and most of the bouquet was distressed I called Saffron and the part owner proceeds to question me what type of bouquet, how decayed were the flowers, I should've called the day of the delivery at no point did she offer an exchange nor a refund she just wanted to refund the $10 dollars delivery fee "which should've been free anyway ". Moral of the story, "shop at pro flowers". Leave these small mom & pop non professionals alone! I could've disputed this charge on my credit card but seems like they fight hard for their money and customers don't matter so let them keep their $100!!! @KT, in response to your rebuttal of my comments, do you or anyone at Saffron read your reviews I think not because the same exact incident happened prior to my order. This is one of those rare little shops where almost every single item for sale makes my heart stop a bit. It's the ideal place to shop for gifts. The owner (a super nice guy from the neighborhood) has a great eye for beautifully designed objects of all types: jewelry, housewares, vintage clothing, garden accessories, plants, stationery, etc. Somehow he's managed to find a whole assortment of items that bridge the aesthetic gap between clean/modern and vintage/handmade, which kind of amazes me. The result is that this store gives you the warm and fuzzy feeling of being in an antique shop, yet anything you buy will also look right at home in a modern apartment. I think there's something here to suit just about anyone, and I like that I don't have to go digging through tons of crap to find it. Everything is just laid out there -- beautifully -- for you to see and admire. An extraordinarily pleasant shopping experience! The prices are surprisingly good, too. As someone who believes in mysticism and fairies, I often walk in just to absorb the energy via osmosis. Saffron is like a Japanese Lord of the Rings. This is the most unique and special flower shop that I have walked into in NYC... I view it as my special nook. It's small, inconspicuous and from another world. You will realize this the minute you walk in... This is the type of store I go to when a friend is having a really hard time and I want to get them something unique and beautiful or you need to knock someone's socks off with a gift they would never expect. The store is not laced with roses and babies breath. But instead, interesting varieties of succulents, dried flowers and strands of plants/flowers that you rarely see in these parts. Finally! A stylish florist for (plant) geeks and dreamers. I walked in on a whim almost a year ago and was immediately struck by the amazing range of flowers and plants on display. When I inquired about a flower I had never seen before, my heart nearly exploded with joy when the owner told me the latin name of the plant. Latin! She knows plants!!! The owner actually knows and cares about plants, she's not just someone trying to make a quick sale. That care and love shows in every inch of the store. It's impossible not to walk in and realize that you are in a place filled with thoughtful attention to every detail. I drop by whenever I am in the neighborhood and always find something lovely to brighten my day, whether it's a $5 nosegay that looks like you paid $40 for it, a teeny tiny baby succulent, or a pretty piece of jewelry. All of it is beautifully packaged and wrapped before you leave. I learned that the owner does weddings as well. Given her reasonable prices and knockout style, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to hire her for my wedding. If you are looking for a florist, snag her before the rest of the world discovers what a gem this place is and the prices start going up. This place is a dream come true for flower and plant enthusiasts in the neighborhood. It isn't surprising that they recently turned the run down Chinese food place next door into an art gallery, because everything they create is a work of art. I live down the block and always admire their displays when I walk by. My husband and I have purchased a couple of succulent plants and bouquets from them. They have also been hired by our condo board to create floral arrangements and plantings for our building. Everything has been beyond beautiful, healthy and long-lived. If you are looking for something unique, look no further than this little shop. The only downside of the place is that it is too expensive for me to purchase everything they have! Long overdue review. Went in just before christmas looking for mistletoe (to surprise the bf, awwww). I'd been looking everywhere, to no avail. I went to Saffron to try my luck and Kana explained that they didn't have any at the moment but were going to the market the next morning and would call me if they picked any up. Lucky me, Kana called the next day and I went in and got my mistletoe. Best part was she priced it super reasonably: I got a nice bunch which she wrapped up beautifully for $7 (brown paper and twine, ditto the "rustic" style others have mentioned). Actually what was really the best part was how nice and genuine Kana was, and how keen she seemed to help me and problem-solve. I really appreciated her excellent service and enjoyed chatting with her about how it had been a bad (few?) years for mistletoe. I could tell she really loves what she does and knows her shit. I was initially skeptical when I saw a florist that was rated on Yelp as a 5-Star but I have to say that they very much deserve it. I bought a corsage from Saffron for a "prom" myself and my girlfriend were attending. Kana was a great pleasure to work with on the phone and very amenable. The corsage itself was beautiful with a gorgeous yellow rose, perfectly sized for the item, with a couple extra adorning flowers. Even better, Kana also took extra care in packaging the corsage for me to carry across the city, exhibiting the same care with this step as they did with the corsage itself. They did my wedding last week, and every arrangement was beautiful, assembled with care, and everything was delivered on time to the venue. My guests told me that it was a beautiful ceremony and that the flowers were amazing - I really am grateful and happy that I worked with Saffron to create such a lovely event. Oh boy, do I love Saffron! They were the florist I chose for my wedding, and this choice was by far the most rewarding of all of my vendor choices! Kana somehow executed a very loose, unfocused sense that I had of theme and color for the floral arrangements for our reception with gorgeous results. She literally looked at a Pinterest board that had dozens of different styles of arrangements that I kind of liked, and managed to cull from that a wonderful vibe and aesthetic for our special day with the flowers. I couldn't have been happier. My now-husband was thrilled at the results as well, and this from a guy who prior to the wedding day frequently questioned why we were getting flowers at all :P. But my favorite pieces of their work were the bouquets for me and my bridesmaids and my hairpiece. They were inspired and gorgeous, the colors were spot on, and they hit that sweet spot between quirky and organic. We didn't look like we had just gone to pick all variety of flora from the woods and meadows, nor did we have the "standard" wedding flowers either. They were lovely, understated, and, best of all, unique. If you're looking for a florist for your wedding or event that offers that special something extra that sets their work apart, and you want to find someone who can masterfully execute your unique vision (however unclear it may still be) with their own inspired personal touches, and who can do all this within a very reasonable budget, look no further than Kana and Saffron's talented team! I live near Saffron and immediately thought of them when I needed a bouquet for my City Hall wedding. I knew I was in good hands immediately. Kana and Tetsuji were incredibly thorough and communicative and attentive to my requests--the bouquet came out exactly as I'd hoped and was an amazing value. They opened the store early to allow for our morning pickup, and they even made my husband a boutonniere as a surprise. When we came back a few months later to pick up some arrangements for a party, they remembered us and were very sweet and asked all about our wedding. Kana and Tetsuji have encyclopedic knowledge of flowers and plants, which results in unique, out-of-the-ordinary combinations that are truly special. And they're extremely flexible and able to work in a range of budgets. I am getting misty just thinking about what a wonderful place this is! I thought finding a wedding florist would be easy but boy, was I wrong. I think my biggest constraint is budget. I personally don't want to spend something so outrageous that will only last a day but for some reason, everything I want or would like to have seem to cost more than I expected. Seriously, it's just flowers and I wasn't even asking for anything exotic or extravagant that is out of season. After interviewing a couple of other florists, I came to Saffron through a friend's referral. Based on the pictures on her website, I really like her natural and rustic designs. I decided to make an appointment to visit the owner, Kana, at her shop and she was a delight to speak to. I genuinely enjoyed talking to her and I felt like I knew her for a long time. Her shop is also very adorable filled with different plants and flowers. We spent about a good hour talking about my vision of the wedding and sifted through pictures for inspiration. In the end, we both felt like we had a good connection and I thought it was a good sign. She even gave me a very rough draft of the potential quote. Although the quote was still above my initial budget, I felt she wasn't pushing me to go with it and you can tell she tries to help you think of ways to stay within budget. I walked away feeling very confident about her and our vision. I almost wanted to hire her but one thing that set me back was her responsiveness to e-mails. She was suppose to send me a revised quote but it probably took 2-3 weeks after our initial meeting for her to get back to me. Then I replied with these other questions about the quote and still no response. In her first e-mail, she did say she was really busy and apologized and I totally understand. But as a business owner, I think she needs a better method of communicating to her customers that she is really busy and make us aware about her turnaround time on e-mails. As a customer, responsiveness is one of the key factors as to whether I want to hire a person, especially for a wedding event that can be very stressful for the bride. I know she probably has other brides to attend to now but it would be nice to send a quick email letting me know she will respond to my questions as soon as she is free instead of leaving me hanging. I'm sure Kana does great work but at the end of the day, you also don't want to be hunting down your vendors like crazy leading up to your big day. I am probably the only Yelper who is giving this place less than 4 stars but that's just based solely on my opinion of her responsiveness, which deserves 3.5 stars. Other than that, Kana is a great person to talk to and I actually wouldn't mind going back someday just to pick up a bouquet of flowers for other special occasions. read more

I generally don't rate places 5 stars unless I've been there more then once. And even more rarely do I admit I was mistaken.... well you're about to see it here... I purchased a 15/30 off of some other site and expected to come and get their lunch special all you can eat for 14.xx I presented the coupon and was told I couldn't use it for the lunch time all you can eat. I argued it said nothing on the coupon about that... after looking at the lunch special it mentions not valid with coupons... even though I had a little attitude the waitress was so nice and accommodating, she actually felt bad that we couldn't use the coupon ... she even gave us a free cup of sangria... Let me tell you what I think of their food... it was the best tapas I've ever eaten... I didn't like their rice balls or the rice in the paella. But the sea food was cooked perfectly. The chicken quesadillas were the best I've ever had. The Cesar salad was so rustic and elegant, with large shreds of reggiano mmmmm.... the pork skewers were good but slightly by a smidgetttt too overcooked (but its hard when its in the sauce).... everything is made to order and very flavorful. We tried every course on that meal and 85 percent of it was really good. 15 percent was average. But what sets this place apart was the sangria's... we ended up buying 4 more glasses of that deliciousness in red and in white. And ill tell you this the quality was Spain.... I've bee there and I can tell you they have the best sangria ever.... between the amazing service and the amazing wine at 495 for a tall glass I have to throw in the 5th star... believe me when I say I will be back... read more

Two weeks to my wedding and I'm having "logistical issues" (i.e., unresponsiveness) with the shop that's supposed to handle my flowers. I decide that I need to work with someone more reliable, so I turn to Yelp and find people raving about a place in my neighborhood. I call Saffron, speak to Kana, and within 2 hours, she has prepared two different price quotes (at my request), both of which are totally within my budget (and my budget was quite small, as weddings go). I get off work, run over to the store (taking Kana by surprise) and seal the deal with a deposit. What did I get? The most amazing flowers I think I've ever seen. Kana instantly understood the aesthetic I was going for (loose and informal but not too casual or country) and did a beautiful job carrying it out. She let me provide the containers (a mixture of different glass jars and family heirloom mint julep cups, which I completely trusted her with) and made a very fair price adjustment when she saw that some containers were smaller than she originally thought. She also made me a beautiful bouquet to carry. Perhaps most important, Kana was totally on top of things. She remembered the times I told her I would be at her shop and called to check on me when I was running late. She held the bouquet at the shop for my mom to pick up, and delivered the rest of my flowers to the venue. She made everything seamless and easy. I highly recommend Saffron for wedding flowers, especially if you're looking for something a little unusual. I wish I had another occasion to order flowers for! Instead I'll have to make do with strongly hinting that my husband stop by here often. read more

We loved their aesthetic, so we left the arrangements/bouquets up to them. They had some challenging circumstances to work with. We found them only about 1 month before our wedding. Hurricane Sandy destroyed our wedding venue and we only knew a week before the wedding that they could fix everything on time. On such short notice and without knowing the venue, they did an amazing job. They didn't balk at our low budget and found really creative ways to bring everything together. 5-star quality that your special someone will love. Great spot if you're sick of giving roses from a deli or online McFlowers. Elite wedding/fancy hotel quality flowers. Lots of interesting and exotic flora, but you don't have to be a florist yourself to figure it out yourself--they are good at pulling it all together. The one problem: bloody expensive. I spent over $100 w/o a vase, and when I saw the arrangement, it looked thin, even puny. That said, running a small business is tough, and I'm sure the wholesale prices for exotic flowers are pretty high. read more
