Spotlessly clean, well organized, friendly workers! Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Portland anymore! The Woodburn location is the nicest Safeway that I have ever been in and I have been to dozens! Wow! Super impressed. One could say it's because I live downtown Portland so anything outside of my area is a ginormous step up, and yes, that is true. Regularly I step over or walk past many bodies sleeping, passed out or pan handling as I enter and exit. Once inside, I get what I need and get out, it's purpose driven rather than pleasant experience. Putting all that aside, I do remember this other "world" and this store is still impressive and merits high marks. I seriously can not understand the other reviews, but everyone has their own bar. A Covid-19 vaccine appointment brought me to this particular Safeway, the ability to find and schedule an appointment one day out verase the weeks of just trying to get in the system to view appointments in Portland, made the 25 minute drive more than worth it. As I entered the store, I was immediately distracted by how bright, clean, and well organized everything was. I had to focus as I made my way to the pharmacy, wanting to shop!. As the pharmacy rep was getting me signed in, I couldn't stop talking about how nice the store was. He visits all of the locations and when I mentioned where I typically shopped, he laughed knowing there was a vast difference in the experience. The Covid vaccine was quick, easy and efficient and within minutes I was on my way to grab a cart and do some shopping! Knowing I was heading to the Woodburn Outlets afterwards to enjoy a day of in this area, I limited my shopping to non perishable items. But as I was passEd the deli, I decided to pick up some roast beef that was on sale for $9.99 from $14.99 so I could make a nice sandwich for lunch. The woman working there was as kind and friendly as those in the pharmacy. Before checking out I had to use the restroom, something I NEVER do in the various Portland locations. The bathroom was clean! Just like the store. OMG. Since there as no one in self check out, I decided to use go this route. I had a few challenges - all user issues as I was swiping 20 cans of cat food too quickly - and the woman working there helped me with a smile. Will definitely shop here again when I come back for Covid-19 vaccine number two. And I will bring my refrigerator bags so I can pick up items that need to be kept cool. Such a pleasant shopping experience! Reminded me of Portland before the the Mayor allowed people to live anywhere, with street people trashIng our streets, parks and businesses, and overrunning our once beautiful city with tents, trash, graffiti and crime. read more

Safeways is Safeway. Just a typical grocery store. There is something that gets me about codes to get into the bathroom. It's such a discriminatory tool. The person gets to look at you and decide based on just that whether or not you get to go in. Now this hasn't ever been an issue for me. But, it opens the door to discrimination of people of color, and houseless people. I understand there can be issues in bathrooms, but having an appearance based system to judge whether or not someone is worthy of the bathroom is something that shouldn't exist. read more

I've bought ballon's from this Safeway for years. I typically like to get them unfilled, so that I can get a bunch to blow up and fill an entire room. I usually pay around .50 cents a balloon. Its becoming an every single time I shop at the Safeway in Woodburn, OR that I am over charged for an item. It is anywhere from $.50 to as much as $4 sometimes. It is really getting old to have to deal with this all the time and by the time I see the overcharge I'm already home. Told me sha hadn't received the medication requests for today but she asked me if I wanted to pick up medication from a month ago!? When he didn't pick up, because she doesn't hold medication on her shelf for longer than a month!?? She was totally rude and uncalled for. She fact that she felt the need to bring that up?? I've been calling their pharmacy for TWO HOURS to see when my prescription will be ready. Nobody in the pharmacy will answer the phone. I finally had to call customer service and ask what is going on. They told me "sorry, it's best if you just come in and check in person"!? I live way outside of town and gas is NOT cheap. I am not driving all the way into town to be told to come back later. She took my information down and said she would pass it to them after their lunch break but can't promise they will call me. Why is there even a phone number to the pharmacy if they cannot even answer the phone? This is unacceptable. This is the WORST pharmacy AND customer service. "Oh, they may or may not call you back. I actually like this Safeway a little better than most. For the most part, it's the same, but there are some improvements. I'll take some pictures in the future, but one thing I like is that they have their magazine rack off to the side. That way I can walk by it or take one, but I'm not inundated with it in the check out. I also have to commend all Safeway stores for keeping the bathrooms clean. They do a much better job than other places. The deli is yummy, nutritious food that I really like. The layout is pretty simple. It was my first time there and I found everything within 15 minutes and was able to get out the door in less than 20. Outside of that, it's a good store and I pretty highly recommend it. read more

37 different brands/types of hot dog buns to choose from. 1 choice of ciabatta buns..... in a tiny spot on the shelf that only holds 3 bags.... and they're completely out. Every time. This summarizes my 5 years of shopping at this Safeway, across many other products. The only reason I'm giving this branch 2 stars is because the staff is awesome and super friendly. But whoever is picking the orders is dropping the ball in a major way (and I know- I used to stock shelves during graveyard at IGA) . We've complained to management 3 times, I've written corporate twice. Same problem. We've tried shopping at different times on different days. Same. It's become an inside joke between my partner and me. Every time we find a product we like, she says- "Well... this is the last time we'll be able to find this HERE". And then like MAGIC, the next time we show up it's out of stock. Weeks later, it's filled with something no one buys and is always in stock. It's almost like they only carry less popular items that people don't want to buy because otherwise that would require more work to order and stock the shelf? I dunno. But it's a thing. My review is for the deli. I work in Woodburn, and I used to like to go to Safeway for lunch. There is deli food, Chinese food, sandwiches, soup, etc. There are a lot of options. But now, the deli is so under staffed. There is maybe 1 or two people. I spend half my lunch break waiting in line. You can't check out at the deli anymore, because there aren't enough employees. More than once, I have walked out. Safeway could make more money during the lunch hour, if they would make improvements, like more employees in the deli and a cashier. They get a lot of lunch time business. Until they improve, my lunch break is happening elsewhere! read more

YEAH!!! Safeway had a makeover!!! Since their remodel and face lift, the appearance and upkeep of this store has improved leaps and bounds. I no longer crawl hesitantly forward to the dingy isles of safeway. Not I can confidently (and highly caffinated (thanks safeway starbucks)) glide down the open isles to find all my shopping list items with ease. Including the extra items that always jump into my shopping cart (whoops)! It may be mostly an incentive, but I LOVE having an average savings of 20% Their produce section is beautiful and I always take extra time to wander through the bursting colors and smells. Final note, I REALLY enjoy getting gas here. It is consistantly equal to or lower than any surrounding gas stations. Im all for saving!!! read more

The Safeway gas station consistently has the best gas prices in Woodburn, and that's usually without the extra 3 cents off for having a member card. I'm definitely a fan of any place where you can consistently get lower gas prices. There is a catch unfortunately: they've been understaffed for the last several months, which generally means you can expect slow service with irate drivers trying to cut in line in front of you. The grocery store is great. It's always sparkly clean, has an excellent selection of products, and a friendly, helpful staff. I'll give this place 3 stars. I usually have no problems with this store. I've never had an issue finding what I needed either. I recently visited the store. I went threw the self check out isle. While I was paying the self service attended rushed over to me and started shouting at me about taking a hand held basket to my car. I was surprised by her and quickly replied I'm not trying to take the basket to my car. She snatched the basket from me and started to remove my items before I had even paid. I have no idea what was going on and I find it very offensive that I was being accused of something I had no plans of doing. I was still at the checkout stand for goodness sake. Where in the world is it acceptable to treat your customers like criminals before they have even gotten to the door or walked out. At SAFEWAY in Woodburn, that's where. Lol It's Amazing. This safeway just doesn't seem to care about details. Like the produce section, half the items dont have a price associated with the displays. 3/4 of the produce baggie rolls are always empty. Both these things are the norm and not the exception. I go often because it's close to my parents. Also, the hot wing bar is probably not even edible. I've tried when I'm in a hurry many times. But they always seem day old and half the time they don't even bother to open the wing bar. It seems as if the upper management don't strive for excellence but strive to overlook many things. Frequently they have 1-2 checkers and 15-20 people waiting to check out. Yet they took the self-checkout system out. why? Because many of my neighbors are Hispanic or Russian? It feels like if we were in lake oswego that they would step up their game. Perhaps I'm wrong. Safeway, you can do better. If not, lets get a Fred Meyer in here to make you step up your customer service a bit. read more

I had a situation today and I couldn't pay with my credit card but I had the Apple Pay instead. I asked them before I did my groceries if they accept the payment with Apple Pay ... they said YES THEY DO IT ALL THE TIME. After I did my groceries nobody couldn't help me pay with the Apple Pay ... nobody knew how to do it and they just kept me 20 minutes and moving me from one cashier to the next one to help me because some of them they don't work to pay with Apple Pay... so after I did my groceries and I waste 20 minutes trying to pay on different machines... I LEFT THE STORE WITHOUT MY LUNCH AND WITHOUT MY GROCERIES!!! They should train people how to use the machines how to pay with Apple Pay or not waste others people time and patients... read more

Great service and excellent selection. Lines are reasonable, food is fresh, and their employees are friendly. Much better experience than the Walmart in town. Please be careful however, as they are located at a famous Woodburn road tax trap. By far the worst staffed Safeway you'll ever go to. Completely understaffed. Will have 1-2 express registers open, but one regular line open that has 7-10 people in it. My review is for the bakery department. I bought a super cool burger shaped cake with cake fries in July, everyone loved it! Last week I decided to order the same cake for my brothers birthday. When I picked it up today the icing was cracked on top and it was much smaller. It didn't even come with the fries and the label specifically said I ordered them. All she said was that they didn't have enough time to make them.. she didn't even offer a discount. She did tell me their cake decorated walked out on them, but that is still not my problem. Typical overpriced supermarket. Selection is limited on name brand products and the produce quality is subpar compared to other supermarkets. Most employees are friendly but I noticed when deli worker scratched her face with a plastic glove on while making my sandwich. I asked her to change her gloves and she basically started an argument with me.. I walked away. You also have to submit your personal private information in order to get Safeway card which entitles you to a small discount. Why? This dated concept of overcharging the naive consumer has to end. This review is for the GAS STATION, not for the store itself--which would earn about one star as well (long lines due to being understaffed, bottle room machines are always broken, lousy selection, etc.) I don't frequent the gas station often (I'm usually only there when I'm near empty), for a multitude of reasons: the entry is extremely awkward, and exiting the parking lot is a nightmare due to the slow traffic signal at 99E/211; the pumps are spaced very poorly, resulting in cars occupying more than one; they have made no effort to organize entry, so cars pile in every which way, and if you're in the southernmost lane you can get sandwiched; like the grocery store, the gas station is understaffed, making it a very slow experience; and, they appear to hire only high school drop outs who struggle with such simplicities as inserting a nozzle correctly. The last reason is why I'm writing, frankly. I had a very negative experience yesterday with one of the attendants, and was so appalled that in the future I'll just pay the few extra cents per gallon and go to the opposite side of town. I brought in my classic car (gas tank at the rear), the attendant--I've never seen anyone look so apathetic--inserted the nozzle. After about three seconds it fell out, spraying premium gasoline all over my trunk lid and down the side of the vehicle. All the attendant said was "Uh...sorry," and then told me I would have to hold it in myself. He did not get any towels for me and simply walked away. After the gas was done pumping I found some towels on my own, cleaned it up myself, and was not even offered any discount due to the $1.50 amount--or thereabouts--of gasoline that spilled onto the ground. Really, if the state is going to require that we put our precious cars into the hands of other people to do a simple, menial task like pumping gas can the stations at least hire competent people? Or train the ones they do hire properly? A little customer service training would be nice, too. My little horror story aside, I've never had a positive experience here. Save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere. AND, pray Woodburn gets a Fred Meyer soon. read more
