So I'm just posting this update to say that currently with a club card you can pick up two 6-oz. packages of organic AND local Bay Area blueberries for $5.99! (They're grown in the delta region.) For you math majors that works out to $7.99/lb. for organic, very local berries. Get them before they run out. They offered $20 off and free shipping to try their home delivery grocery service. I had broke my ankle so decided to try this service. They scheduled a 10-11 am delivery window. Never heard anything or received anything indicating a late delivery. Tried to call customer service for over 4 hours and couldn't get through. I received a random email requesting feedback so I told them what was happening and that we had to go to the store to pick up items that we had expected to be delivered. I indicated I would cancel the order if I could get through to customer service. I received a call finally but missed it and was given a message that the order was on its way with an apology yet her last comment was I would get a refund. I called to confirm the message and I finally was able to get through at about 4 oclock. They took the feedback comment as a cancellation of the order which she must of noticed part way through leaving the message. I told them I would still like the order. She said she would call the driver and see if he would be able to bring it. She agreed to call me either way...have heard nothing. No-one has ever reached out to try and fix or compensate for this mess. Not good customer service. Can't count on receiving an order on time. You would think by offering this coupon they would work hard to do as they have said but at the very least to communicate with their potential clients to show good will and good service. So I'm at Safeway at 7pm on a Saturday evening, and they have only TWO lines open, and both lines have at least 7 people in line. I think it took me twice as long to get through checkout as it did to shop. If I have a pet-peeve when shopping, it's waiting in the checkout line. I mean, I don't think it's unreasonable for me to get grumpy when the line exceeds 5 carts in front of me, and there is no sign that they have anyone else available to assist with check-out. If it weren't for the problems at check-out, this would be my full-time store. But just a couple of these experiences have now made it a "last resort" to me. I would just like to say that I really appreciate my experience today with this Safeway. First of all I am sick today so feeling crappy. I asked my husband to get me a sandwich and some soup. He comes home, I open the sandwiches and to our surprise there was no meat on either sandwich. I called and spoke with an associate and she was EXTREMELY NICE !!!! She jotted down what the sandwiches were and said she would have them ready for him when he got there ! I just want to say how much I appreciate them remaking the sandwiches ! Just look at the difference :) I know accidents happen, we were laughing like how do you forget the meat lol... but we all have our days. "Professional" Panhandlers Haven! I was a frequent shopper of this Safeway until the mass wave of the "professional Homeless" people invaded the parking lot. Yes, I can chose to ignore them but come on now, I see the same people in various locations around town and they are making money! What's more annoying, they hang out in front of the store drinking their beer and smoking their smokes then hop in their cars/RV's and go home at the end of the day. I ordered over $200.00 worth of groceries from this Safeway through Door Dash. After unpacking my bags, I noticed that the packaged tortellini were green with mold. I continued to go through my bags and noticed that a package of Madelline cookies had already been cut open. That evening when we opened the Boston cream pie cake we were shocked that the custard was bad. I decided this was to many items to forget about and I returned them today with the receipt. I was greeted by a unfriendly young lady at the customer service counter. She looked at the items as if I was trying to pull one over on her. The tortellini were visibly moldy, the cookies were sliced open and the pie had 1/2 slice out of it. I'm sure I have nothing else to do in my day but to grab a bunch of food that I paid to have delivered and return it for fun. This young lady couldn't have been ruder. I like the store but as far as its operations it's GROSSLY understaffed. I get it it's a business and needs to make money, however, they staff the store as if they were going broke and barely surviving. Customer service counter is usually empty and you always have to get a cashier to call someone. When that happens some crusty employee with a bad attitude comes out. The deli dept and bakery never have enough staff. The only dept which seems to have adequate staff is the meat and seafood. They are usually pretty helpful as well. Please hire some people! I'd like to give the a 1 star, but their fruits are delicious and their vegetables are fairly fresh. Other than that, the selection is lacking, the staff is rude and they reeeerrrralllllly need to fix or replace the self bagging checkout counters. I can't emphasize enough how slow the machines work, which contributes to its many erroneous alerts about how you have an "unexpected item in the baggage area" and how you constantly need to get the staff's approval. I ordered today for the first time. My order was an hour late, items were not included or substituted, plus I was charged more for the order than I authorized. The items that were substituted were overpriced, double the original item requested. I called customer service, and they were rude and unhelpful, so I called back and was told they couldn't help me and call a manager in the morning. Would like to give this zero stars if I could. Ordered a diner cake from their bakery for my daughter's birthday this past weekend. Hello Kitty was the theme and we requested two layers of filling with white cake, one strawberry and one cream cheese. The cake was decorated nicely, although the actual Hello Kitty was just a faded screen print on the top. This was literally the worst cake we have ever had. The cake itself was super dry and crumbly. And the "filling" was barely even visible, that's how little was there. I had much higher expectations for them. And this was a really big disappointment. Do not use the "drive up delivery" service.The first time I use the service it took 45 minutes for my delivery to be put out to my car, the second time two items were forgotten out of my order and I wasn't believed by the person who I called and spoke to in your customer service department despite having a receipt that showed that I was charged for them. I shopped at the Vacaville store on March 5th, checking out with a large order (108 items) at 12:59pm. The check, Kooi, was very polite as always, but had a very bad cold. Kooi wore gloves, but stopped to blow her nose a couple of times and cough occasionally. She did use a hand sanitizer and a paper towel each time she blew her nose, but the whole check out experience was unpleasant. Aside from the coronavirus, any kind of cold or virus could be passed on with someone so ill touching each of the items I would later put away. I don't know what Safeway's sick leave policy is, but an employee this contagious should really not be in such close contact with the customers. Elaina M works in the meat section. She was so incredibly nice! When I go I usually get chicken tenders and she made sure to give me good sized ones. I explained that the last couple of times I was there I went on my lunch break and they were rock hard, but when I would realize it when I'd sit down to eat it my break would be almost over so I couldn't go back to return them otherwise I'd be late. She gave me mine on the house and was so apologetic even though it wasn't her fault! Such great customer service & I will definitely be back! Shout out Elaina!! read more

I will NEVER shop at Safeway again. The customer service I received via phone was outrageous. I almost always have a problem with the pick up orders; whether it be products out of stock or bad produce, etc. Due to an error with their IT (per their customer service), I today received in incorrect amount of a product. There was an easy resolution to this; I was willing to drive back across town to the store later today for another pick up order to get what I ordered. The service rep told me she couldn't do that, I'd have to place another order. How could she not do that to make good on what I ordered? I needed my order today and I didn't need another $30 in groceries so that doesn't solve my problem. I placed the order in the first place for the item in questions and the remaining order was just to meet minimum. I then spoke to a "manager" who also refused to help me. She stated she would contact IT to resolve the problem. That resolved their IT problem but it does not resolve my problem today. I requested the manager email me an email contact to the head of customer service so I could write a complaint including her name and the first customer service reps name. She say that she would do so and I never received said email. I will never shop at a Safeway again! I will continue to shop at the amazing Nugget and if I have to do a pick up I will use Sprouts instead. read more

Amazing produce, I love coming here for salad ingredients and really nice fruits! That comes at a cost though, because everything here is very expensive! Also, try not to come late at night because they don't always have enough cashiers. If you have to come late at night, please be respectful to the cashier, they have no control over scheduling and they already have enough stress to deal with, without rude comments from grumpy people. Went into Safeway December 12th and straight to the meat department. There was no one there. It was 4:20pm. I rang the bell and waited 20 minutes, still no one. Rang the bell again and waited a few more minutes all this time people are coming up and also ringing the bell and none of us got a response. I went to the store front and asked for a manager. I was referred to lady near the cash registers. I suggested she do a welfare check on the person that was suppose to be in the meat department as so much time had passed I feared some mishap occurred. She got really snippy and suggested he was at lunch. So I asked if there was only one person available? She turned her back on me and got on the telephone. Poor customer service. I started shopping here in '2012. Service was a lot better then. Nowadays, you bag your own groceries 90% of the time! (or the cashier helps bag the groceries for you). why? what happened to the baggers? There used to be regular baggers at this store who were very friendly & helpful. Now I make sure to bring my husband with me to help bag my groceries. crazy. I heard this store got a new manager not long ago, and that there is supposed to be a person who "manages" the check-out area. Where are they? Where is manager Martin Padilla? Today, the line was 8 people deep behind me. (and it's Tuesday) Our cashier, Tomas, was at a register & there was one other cashier. Why? there wasn't one bagger to be found. A couple weeks ago, when I asked where the baggers are, I was told 2 are out on cart duty. really? I went outside and NO ONE was collecting carts, but the carts were scattered all over the parking lot. I am getting ready to change my grocery store to The Nugget if this continues. Except for the cashiers, the other store employees aren't as friendly. They don't even say "hello" or talk small talk with the customer. A couple of months ago, my husband was in the dairy/cheese aisle & a metal board under the case fell on his foot, causing a cut. It was bleeding. We told the cashier about it, but we didn't make a formal report because the cut was minor. The store had a crew working on some kind of remodeling of the dairy display, and they should've roped off areas or made it safer for shoppers while they were working. Where is the management in this store? Why so understaffed? Very, very disappointed. read more

This is mainly for the deli, which is ALWAYS an ordeal. Management needs to come up with a better system. It is not rocket science. I consistently am ignored when I am at the counter and people who came after me get waited on before me. And it's not like there is no one there. There is almost always someone for the Chinese food (I've been told that they are a separate company and can't wait on other deli customers, but they can at least tell you that and alert another staff member). There is also usually someone in the back area doing who knows what. They really should have a bell or something for each area. Today was really the last straw that made me write this review. I walk up and there are three people working (in addition to the Chinese food guy). I am standing at the sandwich counter. Two ladies are just off to my left, and one is in front of me doing something in the back room but visible. The lady furthest to my left finished up a customer. The Asian lady next to her was doing god knows what. She had her cell phone in her hand but wasn't talking. She looked over at me several times and would immediately look away trying to avoid eye contact. Unbelievably rude yet indicative of how I am treated most of the time I come here. A simple be right with you or even a smile and a one minute gesture, SOMETHING!!! I walked over towards the sushi trying to force someone to acknowledge me. While I do this another customer walks up to the hot counter where the furthest lady is standing and she is immediately helped. I'm standing there in disbelief. She finally acknowledges me and says "we'll be with you in a moment". The Asian lady in the middle continues to ignore me and puts on her jacket and walks away. The lady in the back finally looks up when she hears the first lady acknowledge me and comes out to help me. As she does the first lady comes over and apologizes (thank you for that) but tells me she thought I was talking to the Asian lady about sushi. You mean the lady who physically turned her body away from me as she held her phone in her hand on speakerphone or something, behind the deli counter? Nope, definitely not talking to her. I then proceed to order my daughter's sandwich which is simply sourdough roll with turkey and cheddar. That's it, all she will eat. She proceeds to tell me they don't have sourdough rolls. Which is also ridiculously common at the Safeway deli. Even though they sell sourdough rolls in the bakery. Once I asked them to use one of those, since I drove across freakin town to pay $7 for a sandwich that is just meat, cheese and roll. I was told I would have to pay an extra $1 for the roll!!! That day I asked for the manager (while one of the deli women, not the one making the sandwich) mad-dogged me for having the nerve to not want to spend extra money for a roll they should've had in stock. Today I was so annoyed I just said "nevermind" and walked out. I have spoken to management on several occasions when it was extremely bad, and they never do anything about it. Safeway, I LOVE your sandwiches, but you may have lost a loyal customer. Your management could make some very simple changes to provide a better customer experience, but that is clearly not a priority for them. Part of it I'm sure is that the deli employees are paid minimum wage, aren't given enough hours to get benefits, and still have to pay union dues. There are a few employees who have tenured and never leave, but they are all on register. Safeway has raised their prices so much you'd think they could invest in their employees, but again, clearly not their priority. I've almost never been ignored at the Raleys or Nugget delis and they don't run out of sourdough rolls. And their deli sandwich prices are comparable. Unless I am craving their phenomenal Turkey Pesto Avocado sandwich (highly recommended on a sourdough roll *if* they have it and add the olive tapenade-yum!!! read more

We were visiting family on Thanksgiving and ran out to Safeway all the way across town in Vacaville as they had advertised they would be open til 6:00 pm on T-Day. My experience is usually open until 6:00 is just that, not 5:45, or 5:59. We barely made it but were in front of the door at 5:54 only to be turned away by three Safeway employees standing guard at the door. They were not friendly and were quite curt, one in particular by the name of Mitchell. I really have compassion for anyone that has to work or chooses to work on holidays and understand that everyone mostly would rather be somewhere else rather than work. My real complaint is that we who support these establishments count on them for honoring there schedules. We have a right to reasonable expectations from them and 6 is 6. If you want to close at 5:50 then state that you close at 5:50. Safeway of all large outfits. We actually saw 8 people at least turned away as we pulled up in the 3 mins we were there pleading to get in. Not a very good experience and doesn't look like we will return to this store. read more

First don't EVER buy their "fresh" garlic bread the one I got was riddled with mold and smelt awful. I should have known it was going to be questionable by the fact that a bread lathered in butter, garlic, and cheese is sitting on a shelf and not in a fridge. How old was it? Makes me not want to buy anything from their bakery. Secondly I have never dealt with such rude staff before. I had to go their late at night to get my son formula. He can only have a certain kind and one lady told me to ask the lady on the register to look up if they had any in stock. After waiting in line she told me, word for word "go get it yourself". I don't quite think she understood what I was asking because she barely spoke English, but I will not get over how rude she was. This location is so pathetic! They close the doors during open hours with hand written notes on the door saying they're closed. The employees are the most inconsiderate incompetent people anywhere.
