In December 2023 I bought over $500 worth of gift cards and I am out $250 because someone stole the gift card number and used it after I purchased. These were Christmas cards to son-in-laws and son. When they went to use them at the end of January they were told the gift had no money. I have been dealing with Safeway gift card center since January 31 to be told today (5/17/2024) that the card was used. No kidding, and it was not used by my family members. So I am out $250 and I replaced the cards directly at Nike. You have been warned not to purchase gift cards through Safeway unless you want to pay again for cards and useless service! read more

Every single time without fail that I come to this Safeway the managers with the earpieces follow me around while I shop. I have never stolen from anywhere to give them reason enough to follow me. The last time I came I was looking for a brand of snack that they didn't have so I left with nothing and the manager, who looks to be a caucasian man with glasses and short hair, followed me out to my car talking on his ear piece standing in front of my car. I live in Vacaville and I come here quite often, but every time I come here past 7pm I get so much anxiety because I know they only keep one cashier on the floor I can't use self checkout so I have to go through the cashier. And every time after 7 it's only 1. I've asked 3 managers about it and they said they're short staffed but that's not right so many people wants jobs right now. Your short staffed by choice because you cut hours and lay good people off. I'm not coming here anymore after my experience waiting in line 20 minutes after 5 minutes of shopping, And then being told it's cus we're short staffed, I'll go to the nugget where they aren't short staffed and have friendly helpful employees. This pertains to my experience with the website/app for in-store pickup. I ordered product from the website on Tuesday afternoon but was unable to pick up prior to the 8pm cutoff. So I selected to pick the order up the following business day - Wednesday. After submitting the order, I realized I didn't get the sale price. So I went inside the store on pickup day. The First Lady I spoke to was rude and said I needed to talk to on-line orders. I was then told by the guy there that because I selected the next day for pickup, it won't honor the sale price. So I told him to cancel my order. I asked if there was anything else I needed to do, he said no, so I left. BIGGEST mistake on my part. After leaving, I get a confirmation email that my product was picked up. Needless to say, I was upset because I didn't walk out with my product. I called the customer service who proceeded to tell me that in the future if there's any online order issues to call them and not deal with the store. He assured me he would cancel the order and issue a refund. Welp, it's been 5 days, no refund, no product and my account was debited. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Not sure I will come back to shop here after my experience today. Been shopping here well over a year but Jennifer S. Head of customer service of Safeway this Sunday morning has made me rethink where I want to shop now. There was an older gentleman checking me out. I had a full basket. My groceries were not being bagged simultaneously. So things were getting crushed by bottles of water. So I asked him do you have any baggers today and he began to tell me that 4-5 people called in sick. So at that time I asked if he could call for some help. There were only 2 lines open and a lot of people backing up behind me and the other line. He yelled over to a lady walking by who he told me was customer service and asked to help. She said she would call for someone. She also told him to take $10 off my groceries. Ok sounds great right? Umm not so much. So she calls 3 more times to get a bagger and by then he had more than half the groceries bagged and starts to put the code in to take off the $10. He can't figure it out. Here is where Jennifer S. becomes very rude. She becomes irritated that she actually has to walk over to the register and help this poor man put the code in. How does she help? She yells at him in front of us including my child "are you watching!!! So you know the next time!!!" I'm thinking to myself wow and she's head of customer service. PLEASE DO BETTER SAFEWAY. Maybe you should train your cashiers and definitely your managers in those roles how to deal with customers much better. Her blaming people for calling in sick was not my issue. But offering help him bag groceries or help the cashiers would of been a better solution. She was not busy. read more

I never received my delivery order from last night between 6-10pm even though it was confirmed by Safeway via email. I ordered and opted receive groceries and have food delivered because I was sick and did not want to get anyone else sick at the store. Unfortunately for me the groceries never came. You know what else? I never received a phone call or email letting me know that I would not receive my order. Not to mention I am sick, so I was really hoping the soup would get here so I could have that today. I have e-mailed Safeway's customer support twice and have not received a reply. I have been on the phone for over an hour and I am over it. They took the money out of my account but I never received the goods I have purchased. Completely terrible customer service! If anyone from management is reading this it was order #: 743264-1883. I don't want a discount on future anything, I want my money back or I want my order today. I do not want them Monday like some of these other posts say...I want them so I have something to eat while I am sick. Now, I know why everyone orders their food from Whole Foods and Raleys! So here i am AGAIN writing a poor review for Safeway....i will say this, a few of the employees are good, but majority are rude...i always have the worst time at the Deli....today was no exception. No acknowledgment of my presence by anyone until i said something. Then it took the person cutting the meat about 15 min to get my order done. I was the only one waiting!!!! Seriously? If you need meats from the deli, go to the nugget. You pay a little bit more but the experience is well worth it. Plus time is money and you have to wait 5-20 mins for help at Safeway. I got to the bakery area and ordered the 9.99 bucket of chicken that includes FOUR wings and FOUR thighs. After being told to wait 15 minutes but actually waiting 25 minutes, I revived my bucket and checked out. You are getting 1 star for two reasons. 1st you are way over priced and consistently have expiring or expired products on the shelf. There has been plenty of times when I have walked over to grab Milk only to find milk that is expired on the shelves. 2nd ...and this is disgusting but fixable. I am constantly having to walk to your door on the opposite side of Target to avoid the permanent cloud of cigarette smoke on your Target side door. I can't remember a single time when I haven't seen people, including employees smoking right outside your door. Today there was 8 people, half of which wearing Safeway clothing smoking. The smoke was entering throu the door and down your refrigerated isles and bakery section. Why would anybody by your soups when it's engulfed in cigarette smoke? This s a follow-up review. After spending almost my entire lunch break waiting in line at Safeway's deli counter to order lunch on several occasions, I wrote a scathing review. A Safeway manager actually posted an apology, and so I went back to SW Vacaville today. I was pleasantly surprised that there were several clerks behind the deli counter, and my service was prompt and courteous. Thanks! Only problem was they got my order wrong. This is the second time a Safeway deli counter person didn't know their chicken pieces. I ordered that 8-piece all dark meat special off the menu. It says 4thighs and 4drumsticks. I got 3 breasts, 2 wings, 1thigh and 1 drumstick. All of it dried out. Wrong pieces, old and dried out... at 12 noon. You guys are improving on the service, but still kinda weak on the training. read more

Although the Vacaville store has a large variety of items, the self-checkout system is the worst I've encountered and is completely counter-intuitive. The system doesn't allow you to bag your groceries as you check them out and comes to a screeching halt if you put a bag on the metal shelf. The first message says "begin scanning" but it doesn't read your loyalty card if you scan it first; you have to wait later for another screen menu. And there are no hooks for bags. The system at Wal Mart works a whole lot better. read more

PHARMACY. They are always nice and professional. I have to pick up medications monthly so I see them pretty often. The pharmacists are always helpful and will explain new meds. My favorite pharmacist is Tran. Always sweet. And the clerk that usually works here Tammy, is super efficient. We always get our flu shots here too, and they are caring with the younger kids, so it's not too traumatic for them. read more

So I'm rating this store with three stars and that's based only on recent visit. Otherwise I would have rated it five stars. I know that doesn't make sense so let me explain myself: Hands-down Safeway is my favorite grocery store to stop in. They almost always have what I want, when I want it. If I can't find on shelves myself staff offers help, which I appreciate. I went to the deli the other day to get lunch on a workday. There was a young man working the counter where the chicken french fries, and that sort of things available. he was clearly very ill with the respiratory infection and was not wearing a mask. He was wearing gloves. That bothered me, but not enough to keep me from getting food. My complaint/concern has to do with a man coming in plain street clothes - who apparently works there. He walked behind the Chinese food counter and stood there picking his nose. The worker that had been behind Chinese food counter then left- appearing to go on a break. The new arrival leaned on counter of Chinese food area and again picked his nose. So gross!!!!! read more

As a store I go here for my produce. It's better quality than target and Winco and smaller quantity than Costco. However, I am extremely unimpressed with Safeway delivers. I have used this service Half a dozen times since I was pregnant with twins and shopping was difficult. The first three times it was great, the last three times I had to call for a refund due to unsatisfactory produce selections. I will not be using this service again. There is a high employee turnover for the position of personal shopper and they are uneducated on what ripe produce looks like. They also make odd substitutions like sending garlic instead of bananas. Lastly I have chosen The four hour time window, to decrease the delivery price, and the drivers have been late two of the past three times. read more

I ordered over $200.00 worth of groceries from this Safeway through Door Dash. After unpacking my bags, I noticed that the packaged tortellini were green with mold. I continued to go through my bags and noticed that a package of Madelline cookies had already been cut open. That evening when we opened the Boston cream pie cake we were shocked that the custard was bad. I decided this was to many items to forget about and I returned them today with the receipt. I was greeted by a unfriendly young lady at the customer service counter. She looked at the items as if I was trying to pull one over on her. They offered $20 off and free shipping to try their home delivery grocery service. I had broke my ankle so decided to try this service. They scheduled a 10-11 am delivery window. Never heard anything or received anything indicating a late delivery. Tried to call customer service for over 4 hours and couldn't get through. I received a random email requesting feedback so I told them what was happening and that we had to go to the store to pick up items that we had expected to be delivered. I indicated I would cancel the order if I could get through to customer service. I received a call finally but missed it and was given a message that the order was on its way with an apology yet her last comment was I would get a refund. I called to confirm the message and I finally was able to get through at about 4 oclock. They took the feedback comment as a cancellation of the order which she must of noticed part way through leaving the message. I told them I would still like the order. She said she would call the driver and see if he would be able to bring it. She agreed to call me either way...have heard nothing. No-one has ever reached out to try and fix or compensate for this mess. Not good customer service. Can't count on receiving an order on time. You would think by offering this coupon they would work hard to do as they have said but at the very least to communicate with their potential clients to show good will and good service. I would just like to say that I really appreciate my experience today with this Safeway. First of all I am sick today so feeling crappy. I asked my husband to get me a sandwich and some soup. He comes home, I open the sandwiches and to our surprise there was no meat on either sandwich. I called and spoke with an associate and she was EXTREMELY NICE !!!! She jotted down what the sandwiches were and said she would have them ready for him when he got there ! I just want to say how much I appreciate them remaking the sandwiches ! Just look at the difference :) I know accidents happen, we were laughing like how do you forget the meat lol... but we all have our days. I'm rating this review on basically everything, starting with the bad and ending with the good... *Bad: (0/5) Their sandwich station is terrible, not because their sandwiches aren't good, but because their service sucks. Do not expect to walk in and walk out in 15-20 minutes (which I already think is kinda long) because the workers are so SLOW. I came in with no line thinking I scored and would be able to have enough time to sit down and enjoy my lunch, but was sadly mistaken. I ordered a turkey avocado bacon and the gentleman working slowly put on gloves and looked around his station before telling me "hold on" and walked away, five minutes later he comes back and tells me they're all out of turkey. What...um...ok...what other meats can I substitute for? He told me I could pick whatever and I asked for the chicken, he walks away again and doesn't come back for SEVEN MINUTES. It's been over 12 minutes and he hasn't done anything for me yet, meanwhile there's 3 people behind me now. The gentleman comes back and begins to work on my sandwich, he starts by putting avocado on my bread...brings it up to eye level to make sure the avocado is evenly spread out and continues to do this a good 4 times...seriously?!?! I CAN'T EVEN. There was just so many things wrong with this situation, but I'll end it with one other detail that peeved me off. Normally they weigh out the meat for the sandwiches so everyone gets a fair and even amount, he didn't do that and I only ended up with 3 thin slices of chicken meat when I normally get around 6 slices. Don't even get me started on the other sandwich worker, a female, who is just as slow but looks like she's a speedy worker because she's doing everything but working on your sandwich--she's cleaning the counter between making your sandwich--I get it, you're trying to multi task, but can you please just make my sandwich? *Meh: (3/5) Bakery. They used to have this nice lady who would always be in the bakery when I would come in and she'd write whatever you wanted on the cake but in the last 5 (?) years they must have cut her hours because it's impossible to find anyone in this section. (3/5) Floral and fresh produce: Their produce isn't the worst nor is it the best I've ever seen, and for the prices they charge, their produce should be better than they look. Too often have I gone to grab an avocado and it squishes in my hand! The floral/balloon area is really nice, if you can find anyone manning the station. *Good: (4/5) Sushi. I normally do not buy grocery store sushi but the gentleman that works here is very professional and kind, giving me free california rolls to try and even customizing a roll for me. My first issue with Safeway is the seafood counter. I placed an order for five 4oz pieces of salmon. Meaning the woman behind the counter needed to cut a huge piece into five separate pieces, but she could not figure out what 4oz on the scale equaled, and asked if i just wanted a pound. I said no thank you, and went to the Nugget where I was able to get my order. My second issue is their recent price increase. Last week I walked in to purchase coffee creamer, and discovered they raised the price $1...in a week. I went to WinCo were the same creamer was HALF the price. I will never again shop at Safeway.
