this is the woman. Go to another lane to check out
    Maxine M.

I go here with my senior clients. I think the prices are high and such a small store selection is limited. We seem to end up with a cashier who is not nice. She doesnt speak. Acts like shes in the worst job imaginable . Eyes rolling, gum snapping and long fake nails tapping as my elders check out! If I wasnt at work myself I would tell her off for being so nasty to seniors. I do not shop here for myself and don't recommend it to others.

I needed an onion but couldn't buy any because they were all rotten or near rotten. Why can't produce workers throw these out?

I dread going to this grocery store (even though it's the most convenient) for the following reasons which are disturbingly consistent: 1. Rotten produce. Always. 2. Empty shelves. Consistently out of yogurt and any vegetable that happens to be on sale, and usually bananas. I have never witnessed a worker stocking a shelf. 3. Poor service. (a) Checkout Mistakes: I buy the 50% off "about to expire" yogurts and I have yet to have an employee ring it up as such. I have to have them cancel it and ring it up again, which they never know how to do, and have to have someone come help them. (b) Apathy: When the checker asks if you found everything ok (remember empty shelves?), and you tell them no, the yogurt I came to buy was out, no bananas, or no asparagus, they have no response. Grocery shopping in Rapid if you eat anything other than pre-packaged, processed food is a nightmare. Wal-Mart is a better choice for produce if you aren't politically and ethically opposed to them. As for the pharmacy, I call in my prescription in the morning and the automated message usually tells me it will be ready by 1 pm. When I come pick it up at 5pm, it's usually not ready (even though it's prepackaged), so now I call it in a day early just so that I don't explode with frustration at the counter

Pretty neat worms in the "fresh" seafood section

Asked for a unicorn Pokemon cake. The bakery lady blew my mind away with this amazing cake! Thank you!

Parking lot is small and tight, but the store is pretty much a Safeway. Nothing really stand out

The business is organized. I appreciate the safety measures that have been put in place in light of the pandemic.

Nice enough store with variety, however pricey & tight with their plastic bags. Also need better customer service.

This market is actually the only market in the area, as the next one was 12+ miles away. Anyways, you can find Timmons Market next door to The Goodwill with plenty of parking available in the lot. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with how big this market was, as we thought it was going to be a small market. There is quite a large selection of produce, meat, baked goods, etc. And the prices were relatively pretty cheap, especially compared to Safeway (which was 12+ miles away). We ended up purchasing chicken to cook for our dog (as that is part of her normal diet, along with her dry dog food and also vegetables and sometimes steam rice. Yes, we do cook for our dog because she deserves the best. We also made chicken for ourselves too), along with vegetables and some fruits (for ourselves and you know for our dog too). The aisles were clean and it was pretty easy to find things. The layout was similar to any other market. Service was friendly each time we shopped here. Overall, this was a nice market and would shop here regularly if I lived in this area.

I didn't think it possible for a grocery chain to be more obscenely overpriced than SAFEWAY (a…read morebrand owned by Albertson's), but FAMILY FARE supermarkets located in the Black Hills region of South Dakota do in fact fit that bill. Safeway, which has been owned by the Albertson's corporation for several years now is one of several branded markets than include Albertson's, Ralph's, ACME (on the east coast in the Mid-Atlantic States), is a chain that many people will say "has a license to steal." In the case of the Rapid City, SD, area, there really are only two supermarket chains where folks can buy groceries (other than Walmart), and both are obscenely overpriced because other than Walmart, there is literally NO competition. FAMILY FARE, a smaller chain that doesn't benefit from the buying power of the larger Albertson's company has prices that left me wondering how their ownership could sleep at night knowing they were ripping off their customers so flagrantly. I found the staff at the store I visited uncaring, uninterested and the aisles crowded with un-shelved merchandise. When you asked the staff for assistance, they seemed unwilling to help and completely lacking in anything related to consumer service, let alone basic communications skills. Rapid City, Spearfish and the rest of the Black Hills region of So. Dakota needs additional competition for groceries. My suggestion? Shop at Walmart and join Sam's Club and hope and pray that COSTCO decides to build a store in Rapid City.

Combined with Safeway's unjustifiably high prices, I just can't see myself choosing this Safeway over the Family Fare across the street. The last time I shopped here some of my purchased items fell out through a hole in a defective shopping bag. The employees struggled to clean it up due to a lack of the dry cleaning agent they needed to clean up a spill. They acted very irritated with me while I waited to see if they would replace the items I lost due to the defective shopping bag, but only helped after I started complaining about it. Rude comments about my family members' "ethnic" sounding names by cashiers has been icing on the cake. Employees need to be retrained about dealing with the public, but it seems as though this Safeway has a massive problem retaining them. Even on very busy days only a few registers are open, and lines are long as a result.
