This market is actually the only market in the area, as the next one was 12+ miles away. Anyways, you can find Timmons Market next door to The Goodwill with plenty of parking available in the lot. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with how big this market was, as we thought it was going to be a small market. There is quite a large selection of produce, meat, baked goods, etc. And the prices were relatively pretty cheap, especially compared to Safeway (which was 12+ miles away). We ended up purchasing chicken to cook for our dog (as that is part of her normal diet, along with her dry dog food and also vegetables and sometimes steam rice. Yes, we do cook for our dog because she deserves the best. We also made chicken for ourselves too), along with vegetables and some fruits (for ourselves and you know for our dog too). The aisles were clean and it was pretty easy to find things. The layout was similar to any other market. Service was friendly each time we shopped here. Overall, this was a nice market and would shop here regularly if I lived in this area.

She gave us easy directions to find it. A person at our hotel told us too that they have the best meat department in town too. We headed to the floral department which was unmanned at the time but they had a accessible case and we were able to find several bunches of roses for under $17 each. The smaller single roses may have been under $5.00. We also picked up several things for our hotel stay here such as some food items and a cake for our renewal. The bakery department clerk was very friendly and was able to write on our cake for us. It is a smaller local store but it had all the things we would have needed if we shopped here regularly.

I didn't think it possible for a grocery chain to be more obscenely overpriced than SAFEWAY (a…read morebrand owned by Albertson's), but FAMILY FARE supermarkets located in the Black Hills region of South Dakota do in fact fit that bill. Safeway, which has been owned by the Albertson's corporation for several years now is one of several branded markets than include Albertson's, Ralph's, ACME (on the east coast in the Mid-Atlantic States), is a chain that many people will say "has a license to steal." In the case of the Rapid City, SD, area, there really are only two supermarket chains where folks can buy groceries (other than Walmart), and both are obscenely overpriced because other than Walmart, there is literally NO competition. FAMILY FARE, a smaller chain that doesn't benefit from the buying power of the larger Albertson's company has prices that left me wondering how their ownership could sleep at night knowing they were ripping off their customers so flagrantly. I found the staff at the store I visited uncaring, uninterested and the aisles crowded with un-shelved merchandise. When you asked the staff for assistance, they seemed unwilling to help and completely lacking in anything related to consumer service, let alone basic communications skills. Rapid City, Spearfish and the rest of the Black Hills region of So. Dakota needs additional competition for groceries. My suggestion? Shop at Walmart and join Sam's Club and hope and pray that COSTCO decides to build a store in Rapid City.

I have to request a refund on nearly every produce item I buy from here. I thought I was just unlucky but a friend overheard two employees talking about it while they were packing an order (one actually told another to grab the worst item.) Combined with Safeway's unjustifiably high prices, I just can't see myself choosing this Safeway over the Family Fare across the street. The last time I shopped here some of my purchased items fell out through a hole in a defective shopping bag. The employees struggled to clean it up due to a lack of the dry cleaning agent they needed to clean up a spill. They acted very irritated with me while I waited to see if they would replace the items I lost due to the defective shopping bag, but only helped after I started complaining about it. Rude comments about my family members' "ethnic" sounding names by cashiers has been icing on the cake. Employees need to be retrained about dealing with the public, but it seems as though this Safeway has a massive problem retaining them. Even on very busy days only a few registers are open, and lines are long as a result.
