This Safeway is pretty old and it's starting to show. Location is clean inside, but service is definitely lacking. It was easy to find what we were looking for, but not one employee greeted us the entire time in the store. The only thing that is really bad with this store is stocking. They almost never stock things. This is the store closest to me, so it sucks that I can't rely on them most of the time. And it's not just one or two items, it's several that I buy. And some of the items I get, haven't been stocked in more than a month now, it seems. One of the items is just yogurt, which every other store always stocks. So just sucks that I have started to avoid going there because I can't get anything I need. read more

This is my go to grocery store. Everything is always well stocked and the produce is super fresh. They always have great coupons and sales on meat. I go in the early morning after working out and Maria is usually the one checking out. She's so friendly and makes my morning when I see her. They do seem to be understaffed at times but people just need to have some patience. I guess I can't for the life of me understand how this store is capable of getting so many 1-star reviews. I want all of you to show me on this doll where the Safeway hurt you so badly. This location is super convenient for me as it's located right off 83rd and Cactus. Plenty of ample parking. Super clean entryway and foyer. And it is NEVER busy. Ever. You can go on a Saturday afternoon or right after work on a weekday. It's never busy. Truth be told, I have no idea how they remain in operation as it hardly seems like there's any shoppers. Sure, their prices may not be the most competitive, but that's because you simply need to know how to shop and utilize Safeway. You shop their ads and you go there after dinner for a sweet treat like something fresh from the bakery or a tub of ice cream. The store is amazingly clean and every employee I've interacted with (the few times I've actually had to interact with an employee and speak to someone) was incredibly friendly. No issues. Ever. They recently added self-checkouts which means I don't have to stand in line with my pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream behind some dude with three shopping carts preparing for the zombie apocalypse. I can get into the store and get out of the store quickly and as I've mentioned several times now - I've never had a single issue. I don't know what everyone else is doing inside of this Safeway that is warranting a 1-star review. I'm sure you're doing something stupid like asking for some insanely obscure item like marinated ostrich neck in which case, you have no idea how a grocery store works and I feel sorry for you. Big shout out to the deli department! We placed a last-minute order at 4:30 p.m. and needed 4 large sandwich trays by 11:00 a.m. the next day. The staff and manager were accommodating and made it work! The trays were ready by 10:30 a.m., and best of all, the pretzel sliders were delicious! I took off a star because the bakery staff were not as helpful. They weren't able to take an order without 24-hour notice, which was totally fine - my bad. But when I showed up and asked if they had any cookie platters that had been prepared that morning, the answer was no. Again, fine. As I proceeded to search through all the 30 cookie platters, looking for 8 with the most recent "packaged on" dates, in full view of the not-busy-employee, there was no offer to help me find what I was looking for. As I was checking out at the self-service register at Safeway, I couldn't find bananas in their system. I put in the number . . .nothing, spelled out the name. . .only got banana peppers. At this point the clerk came over and said bananas, avocados and apples were not longer in their sysytem, and get this, SO YOU WILL HAVE MORE INTERACTION WITH THE EMPLOYEES! The most out dated dirty Safeway I have ever been to. Every single cart is broken and very loud and there are no baskets available.

When I need some food this is the Safeway I'll shop at. The location is literally the same as any other Safeway around. The meats and veggies and fruits are of decent quality. Not bad at all. Their processed items are the same as everywhere else. Lines are fast, and the staff are friendly. The loo is decent. Whenever I needed to do a two, the loo needed to be picked up. The loo is slightly more powerful than a common house toilet. Overall a good place to buy your groceries, I'll definitely continue to shop here. read more

Great service at the deli counter. We were wanting to get our rotisserie chicken salad and with cheddar cheese bagels for lunch tomorrow. Our deli counter server was warm and friendly. We wanted to sample their ham and turkey, and he was super generous and served up delicious and robust slices. We also like the taste of the deviled egg potato salad. Martha in the Deli was literally the best! She had just finished cleaning the slicers and we walked up. Without hesitation she happily took our order and even made sure to mention that the kretschmar was on sale! I went to the deli for a handmade sandwich and after helping a customer, I have to wait another 5 minutes watching the deli manager take care of some pre cut meat while I'm the only one waiting. When I finally got help I asked for a grilled chicken bacon avocado, when the sign says any sandwich for $5.49 he tells me avocado and bacon were extra. Bacon I understood because it wasn't listed, but avocado was one of the many selections for sides. The sign clearly stated that sides and add ons were part of the $5.49 regular sandwich and no where on the sign said that anything else would cost extra. I tried explaining that the sign was misleading, but instead of attempting to look at the sign and understand where I'm coming from looking at this misleading sign the Deli manager just told he couldn't help me. When I got the GM she had obviously seen how misleading the sign was saying how she was going to get the sign changed and the deli manager just continued to be extremely rude saying that he couldn't accommodate me even though there was false advertising for any of the products. I guess the customer isn't always right according to this deli manager, he should quite frankly be let go, I've worked for a Safeway before and I guarantee that wouldn't fly at the store I worked at. Just used the delivery service and I am impressed. Right on time, refrigerated Safeway logo truck, friendly, courteous driver who brought bags in and put them on my kitchen Counter. Would not accept tip...company policy. All the items were correct and tbe produce picks were perfect as if I had chosen myself. I also got a $20 discount. Things have gotten very slow at this location, do not go here if you want to get in and out. The staff seems to be in slow motion. This morning with maybe 15 people in the entire store i spent 22 minutes in line trying to get checked out and another 10 getting checked out. The worst service i have ever had at a grocery store in a long time. 3 people working in the front of the store and another coming and going from the service desk, 1 actually checking people out and 2 standing around trying to look busy but more like zombies. After 15 minutes one of them finally comes to open a lane and ignores me taking person behind me, almost lost it in the store. Shopping for groceries should not be this difficult. Had no issues with the store, itself, but the women's bathroom is absolutely disgusting. Toilet bowls have black rings and look like they haven't been cleaned in months, tile is grimey, sinks obviously haven't been cleaned in weeks, and no hand soap. Gross. read more

I really like Safeway, and this one meets my needs. I went there yesterday on my lunch break and enjoyed a half/sandwich, cup of soup and a drink for around $7. Quality for food is good. Never in my life have I experienced a store that more needs self-checkout lines. This is a review devoid of any commentary on the staff (they're all stellar and wonderfully kind!) but this store is SLOW, and SLOW with assessing when "three's a crowd" to get more cashiers on deck. While I love this store for it's close proximity to my home, I absolutely DREAD coming here and often will try to be a more coordinated consumer by going to the big "Wal-Box" instead. This used to be my grocery store of choice in Peoria. The last several timed they did not have the sale items advertised in their weekly ad. On 10/21/2019 I brought this to the attention of Jasmine at the front counter. I have never been treated so rudley by a customer service representative as I was yesterday. When I asked her about it she was rude and just walked away and went into the office and shut the door as I was speaking to her. This is no way to treat your loyal customers. The call to reach them at the service desk took aprx 8min on a dead evening. It seemed like the manager was on the line, he personally came back and took care of the request I had. He kept composure, was very polite, and professional. No doubt they have the right personal. Worst grocery store I've been to which is sad because the other Safeways I've been to have been clean and fresh. The produce section in this store is awful. I couldn't find a single fresh green bell pepper. All of them were either really soft or had a lot of deep dents and marks in them. It looked like they've been there for weeks. The onion section was absolutely disgusting as there were tons of flies flying all over them. Something I have never witnessed in any grocery store that's supposed to be clean. I have filed a complaint with Safeway over this and I immediately left without buying anything because of this. 9/20-The Safeway staff was rude when I requested assistance from the customer service department and referred me to the pharmacy to unlock the item I requested. I explained that there was a line in the pharmacy and requested her assistance. She was annoyed by my request and sighed. I also waited in a very short line for a very long time, there was only one register open- yet two people at the customer service just talking and joking. This was not a good experience as a customer. No one in the various departments throughout this Safeway store. This is the second Safeway where I have observed a lack of sufficiently employees to assist customers during the middle of the day. Thumbs down for this Safeway and their employees. My family has been coming to this Safeway for years now and I have never had any problems other then the lack of cashiers and EXTREMELY rude deli department. (I just go to frys for lunch meat now) I recently had to make a return on a laundry soap I had mistakenly purchased. I wasn't sure how the transaction would go as I have never made a return but Cheri made it all so easy. She even walked me directly to the item that I had meant to purchase initially. I came here after reading online that this bakery would make custom cakes. After just visiting their bakery right now I now know that statement is false. They will only make cakes that are in their book and won't change a thing to customize it. The only change the lady in the bakery mentioned was that they could just ice a cake and sell it to me just like that and I could decorate it myself. What the heck seriously? This store is what I would consider a Safeway "lite" if there was such a thing. Employees at the store have admitted that they don't carry the same selection of items as other nearby Safeways as this store gets a much lower volume of traffic. However, it has recently been renovated (and is a very nice store), the employees are friendly, and unlike other nearby supermarkets (Walmart at 79th/Peoria or Frys at 75th/Cactus) this store is never crowded making it easy to get in and out with everyday staples. read more

I purchased a cake today from a store in Peoria AZ and I made a mistake! I ordered a chocolate 1/4 sheet whipped frosting cake. I got it home and right away I decided to try it. It was NASTY! I had never purchased a cake from you guys, but decided to give it a try, and I should have never done it... I would rather eat a boxed cake mix from the store, then another one from your bakery... I wish I could give this no stars but this is the lowest that I can give this store any ratings on this website. Safeway Grocery at 12320 N 83rd Ave needs big improvements and the store manager is always defending the laziest bakery, meat and produce departments, and cashiers. They never keep in stock their online and paper advertised specials. They tell you to come back next week after the sale ends and get a raincheck. When and if you do come back it is always the same excuses. They do not keep anything in stock that they advertised. What is the point when you advertise it, it should be there! That is how you get good business coming in. I apologize but the store manager needs to be fired. He thinks that if he smiles and tells you I will email you or call to see if it is available. In other words, "tell me when you are coming and will put it there". That is a lie! They sent me an email when they have it in stock in the morning and I went in the late afternoon on the same day and there was nothing in stock as promised. It always happens this way. They have been doing this for 3 years, always excuses. They never have bakery items in stock or chicken that is advertised, the produce is old, why come back later when you have company coming over yet you have to travel further away hoping that the next Safeway store does not make the same excuses as this store has for 3 years. In fact I have bought two cartons of milk which the expiration date was still a month away and it tasted sour and smelled bad. I like to know how long it was sitting outside of the refrigeration unit. I have bought the same brand of milk at Walmart, Fry's and a different Safeway store location and they tasted fine with the expiration date still good. It is this store that sells supposedly fresh but bad food. Half of the time the cashiers do not ring up sale items like they are suppose to and tell you go to the customer service desk and get your refund. They do not even give you the full refund just the percentage. There is never a guaranteed money back, you have to basically argue with the customer service people. They just have poor management of this store and different department managers. Why are there pictures on the wall who are suppose to be "Employee of the Month" when all I see are a bunch of brown nosers! read more
